Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fiustadium08.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Fiustadium.jpg. The copy called Image:Fiustadium.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 05:02, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Wikipedia:External links. In particular, there are passages which state things along the line of

  • "Links should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links, or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links."
  • "Avoid links to... Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject. Similarly, a website on a specific subject should usually not be linked to an article about a general subject. If a section of a general website is devoted to the subject of the article, and meets the other criteria for linking, then that part of the site could be deep-linked."

For example, you don't need to link to the newspaper's website from Florida International University, but you should probably do so from its article (The Beacon). If you really think one of those links is that important, use it to cite something in the article. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 21:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Harold Crosby.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Harold Crosby.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:08, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FIU_NHC.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free image (Image:FIU seal.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FIU seal.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 02:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Florida Memory Project

[edit]

Images from the Florida Memory project are not as a group suitably-licensed for use on Wikipedia. As the website's copyright disclaimer says, "Some of the images may be protected by copyright. The user must assume any and all responsibility for obtaining appropriate permission for use or assurance of adherence to copyright restriction." Before you upload any more images from there, you need to make sure that the particular image you are uploading has an appropriate copyright status. --Carnildo 01:12, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Roary

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Roary, by CultureDrone (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Roary is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Roary, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Roary itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 11:37, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! I'll take a look at it right now. Tromboneguy0186 (talk) 04:02, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I left a note on Talk:Florida International University with pretty much the only thing I can see that remains to be done. There were a few exceedingly minor issues in the text, but I took care of them myself. I find that can sometimes be more helpful than a nagging list of things to fix; by all means look over what I've added. Tromboneguy0186 (talk) 04:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have passed the article by the GA criteria. Congratulations. Tromboneguy0186 (talk) 05:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Unah.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Unah.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:24, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of museums in the United States

[edit]

I'm sorry that I called your edit pointless. That was unnecessary for me to say.

Fort Lauderdale is a different city than Miami, so they should not be in the same section. A similar situation has arisen at least a couple other places on this page. Look at Minneapolis & Saint Paul in Minnesota. If there are an adequate number of museums from both "twin" cities, then we have combined them into one section like that.

The problem here is that in order for a city to have its own section, it must have 5 or more museums (See the rules on the talk page.). Fort Lauderdale does not have 5 or more entries on this page so we can't give it separate recognition yet. It must remain in the "Elsewhere" section until there are 5 or more museums listed - then it may be moved into a conglomerate section like you're trying to do. You may research and add more museums from this city if you would like.

It has been an unsaid rule of thumb to always shorten the name of universities in this form:

(museum name) at (ABC)

Where ABC is the shortest version of the school's name. This is to reduce clutter on the page. I have added this to the general rules/guidelines on Talk:List of museums in the United States.

If you disagree with anything I have said, please post a comment on Talk:List of museums in the United States so several of us can work together and come to a civil solution and to avoid "name-calling". I am going to undo your edit again. Please discuss this with us and allow us to all come to a consensus before you do it again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ben Boldt (talkcontribs) 15:06, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your changes to Miami 1) to eliminate the vandalism that was entered right before your edits and 2) because most of the companies you added are not headquartered in Miami. Try to limit your additions to Dade County, at most, since Fort Lauderdale and Broward County are a separate Metropolitan Division within the MSA. You're right, and I apologize. I went through and removed the ones that were already there. Thank you for re-removing the vandalism when you reverted my change. Horologium (talk) 20:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of shopping malls in the United States

[edit]

An editor has nominated List of shopping malls in the United States, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of shopping malls in the United States (3rd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with Emporis

[edit]

Yeah, you probably noticed their erroneous information listed for Carbonell Condominium... I usually try to use SkyscraperPage for dates, but if that site too seems incorrect, do you think it would be better to simply leave some date entries blank? There is, after all, a note stating Table entries without text indicates that information regarding building height has not yet been released. This can be changed to include dates of completion as well. Cheers, Raime 01:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confused as to where downtown ends / midtown begins

[edit]

I figured I would ask you if you know of a source that tells where the division is between Downtown Miami and Midtown Miami. Or is there a transitional space in between - (Omni area)? The only thing I could find online about midtown is the development that's supposed to be built in the old railyard (only 55 acres) inside Miami / SE 2nd Avenues and 36th / 29th Streets. I live in the Grand (behind the Omni) and everyone tells me I live in downtown Miami. The Opera Tower is literally a hundred feet from my front door and my realtor at The Grand & Assocs. swears up and down that the Opera Tower, 1800 Club and Quantum are all downtown properties. I was told that midtown isn't until north of 20th St. I couldn't find anything at all on the web, aside from commercial realtor sites that don't really say anything. The city of Miami site doesn't claim a 'Midtown' in any of its neighborhoods either. --> here. It seems that the downtown/midtown distinction may be subjective. Do you know of any reliable source? - Marc Averette (talk) 20:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coconut Grove

[edit]

Comayagua99 - I see on 5/16/08 you added "Downtown", "Brickell", and "Midtown" to the "See Also" section in the Coconut Grove article. Can you tell me why you did this? I don't see much of a relationship between these places. Brickell is contiguous to the Grove - but Midtown ? If you added these why wouldn't you add Coral Gables or Hialeah ?GroveGuy (talk) 02:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Emporis/SSP

[edit]

I definitely see what you mean about Emporis and SkyscraperPage often "getting their facts wrong"; it is an issue I have faced at several points :-) And in the case of The Ivy, it may very well be no longer under construction. However, in order for this to be stated in List of tallest buildings in Miami, there needs to be a verifiable and reliable reference stating that the building is no longer under construction, to "counter" the Emporis and SkyscraperPage refs. You may be interested in the long discussion at Talk:Burj Dubai regarding updating outdated information; the consensus there was that even if the building was obviously higher than the outdated official reports from Emaar stated it was, a reference from a reliable source was still needed before the information in the article could be altered. Ransom-Everglades

[edit]

Dear Comayagua99 - I can see by your edits you are interested in the geography of Dade County. Let me tell you a little history. Have a look at this map: [[1]] This shows our county at about the time the school was founded. Of the settlements designated then only three remain today: Hypoluxo, Miami, and Coconut Grove. The school was founded in 1893 as Pine Knot Camp. In 1895, one year before the city of Miami was incorporated, Coconut Grove had the only hotel between Palm Beach and Key West and the first swimming pool and tennis courts in the area; at this time there were about six people in the settlement called Miami. In 1919 the town of Coconut Grove was incorporated. In 1925, fearful that Coral Gables would outgrow it, Miami underhandedly engulfed Coconut Grove, Silver Bluff, and several other neighborhoods. Trivia: streets in the Grove are named the opposite to those in Miami; thus "Grand Avenue" and "Virginia Street". So, although Coconut Grove is legally a part of Miami, we Grovites fiercely defend our separate identity; continue to improve other Wiki areas but please leave Ransom Everglades alone. --GroveGuy (talk) 01:27, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comayagua99 - On my talk page you said that "Coconut Grove, Florida" does not exist. "Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida" however, does. You are WRONG. Go to the post office website: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp and look up Ransom-Everglades' address: "3575 Main Highway" city:"Coconut Grove" state:"FL". The US government will confirm that "Coconut Grove" exists. And they will confirm that "Coconut Grove, Miami" does NOT exist. --GroveGuy (talk) 23:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comayagua99 - This dispute with you is fun. Your citing the City of Miami's NET map bolsters my viewpoint. This is just a map of administrative areas. This means that the Ransom-Everglades page should say "North/East Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida." Try sending some mail to an address in Flagami or Downtown ! Also, you might ponder why there are two NET offices in Coconut Grove. --GroveGuy (talk) 04:19, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to but in, but if you type in 3575 Main Highway in the link you gave above, but do not put in city or state, just zip code 33133, the result is Miami, FL. Go ahead, give it a try! - Marc Averette (talk) 14:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about User:Comayagua and User:Comayagua69? Don't they rather indicate that this account is sockpuppeting? -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 12:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see now; this user's claim is that User:Miamiboyzinhere created those accounts. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 12:09, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, there's a conversation about this block happening here. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 12:16, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And also Comayagua98. Look at what he did.[2][3] But I admit this is the toughest challenge I faced in SSP. We can't be sure whether this is in fact a sock, or a person impersonating another to be a sock. We cannot go to RFCU either, since it can't be used to proof innocence. Guys, give me some ideas on what to do. OhanaUnitedTalk page 17:34, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unblock. There's no concrete evidence that this account was ever used for vandalism. At least a year of edit history with nary a warning. —C.Fred (talk) 18:41, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. If you look at my history, I've been a member for a long time and I've contributed a lot to the website. It wasn't until recently, Miamiboyzinhere began to create usernames similar to mine to make me a victim. You can also see edits where I've had arguments with him reverting edits to inappropriate material see: Brickell, Miami, Florida or South Florida metropolitan area where he purposefully changes edits I've done to his removing text and images. The user even insulted me for reverting his edits because an image had been changed in the Brickell, Miami, Florida article. Again, thank you. --Comayagua99 (talk) 20:25, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps no warning templates, but I warned him (without using templates as he seemed to be an established editor) here, here and here about disruptive edits. However, this was eight months ago, and I have had no further occasion to question his edits, even though our editing interests seem to overlap a lot. -- Donald Albury 21:16, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Support unblock. Looking at this user's edit-history makes me think he's almost certainly the victim and not the culprit here. This talk page is on plenty of people's watchlists now, so if we're wrong and this user is naughty, it won't be hard to re-block. I doubt we'll have to, though. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question: should Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Miamiboyzinhere (2nd) be updated to reflect subsequent discussion and events? — Athaenara 22:20, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a link to this discussion as a postscript to the sockpuppet case. Kevin (talk) 22:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?

[edit]

I thing it was ill-advised of you to label the image swapping in South Florida metropolitan area as vandalism, as you did in the edit summary. That is strictly a content dispute, which not vandalism. -- Donald Albury 15:15, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's from the same user who was changing the images before on similar articles. Not to mention that, both images are good resolutions, contrary to what the user says, which is why I don't see the need to change images, delete galleries and remove content. It's unnecessary. --Comayagua99 (talk) 15:21, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is nevertheless a content dispute. Neither the repeated switching of images nor the edit summaries that you consider misleading amount to vandalism, per Wikipedia:Vandalism#Types of vandalism and Wikipedia:Vandalism#What is not vandalism. -- Donald Albury 15:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was vandalism, but not mine. Your images have extremely bad lighting and are not encyclopedic quality in the least. One of them replaced a photo of a street in the article for that street Brickell Avenue and doesn't even show the street. THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT THE STREET. Also, you're supposed to answer a talk on the same page (Yours') that it initiated on, not put the answer on the initiators page so there are 2 half conversations on two separate pages. I suggest you read a bit more about Wikipedia rules and stop vandalizing articles with your crappy poor lighting amateur photography from car windows. 66.176.139.222 (talk) 23:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you serious? Who are you to go around insulting my edits? What makes your edits so much better? It's very rude to go around changing people's edits that benefit the article and on top of it go ahead and insult them. Last time I checked, THAT isn't Wikipedia standards. Maybe you should read the Wikipedia rules and stop vandalizing articles. Thanks! :) --Comayagua99 (talk) 02:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What makes your edits better? Leave them alone and don't change what's already there to make it worse. If you have a better quality photo, put it in. But you photos are HORRID. So I must help preserve the superior photos that are already in place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.211.229.4 (talk) 05:37, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of South Pointe Park

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article South Pointe Park, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

It's just a park, no assertion of notability.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. roux   17:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated South Pointe Park, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/South Pointe Park. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hello Comayagua99! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 131 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Metropolitan area population

[edit]

Understanding that there is disagreement as to whether the US Census Bureau 2008 estimates should be included in the introduction of the article, I will not redo the changes I made to it. But the information that I edited in the demographics section was not only backed by a functional, official link, it is also consistent with what is stated in other articles, such as this one, this one, this one, and this one. The information is CORRECT and the link I provided is WORKING, as opposed to the one it previously had. I am therefore reverting the section back to how I had edited it.--AndresTM (talk) 03:21, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alienware

[edit]

Hi! I noticed this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alienware&diff=347649936&oldid=347306188

The problem is that the way you phrased things will make people think that "The Hammocks" is a part of Miami. It isn't. It is a separate unincorporated community in Miami-Dade County. Whenever the location is first described in the lead, because the Hammocks is an unincorporated area, the lead must state "unincorporated Miami-Dade County" - Saying it is in "Miami, Florida" should be reserved for articles about places clearly within the city limits. Saying it is a "Miami suburb" is ambiguous because there are often suburban areas within the limits of large cities.

It is best to simply say that it is near Miami. WhisperToMe (talk) 13:29, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FIU Architecture Admissions

[edit]

I would just like to determine why you rolled back the changes I made to the graduate architecture admissions paragraph. I used the excel sheet located here. I used the "IV Admissions" page in the document. Under the "2009-2010" column I added up the numbers from each major in the grad I : applied row as the as the applications received. I then used admitted row as the number for the accepted students. I believed this to be correct, but if I am mistaken let me know. Whether it is this way or the original way, I do not believe it is necessary to have the freshman entry GPA in the graduate admissions category.CSLoomis (talk) 22:52, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! No, the source is good, I shouldn't have undone your edit, just maybe edited it. Because, the admissions data should include the numbers for 'Lower' just because the way the FIU Architecture has their majors set up, is that the Master of Architecture program starts the freshmen year, (they don't offer the bachelors anymore) which would be listed in this source as 'Lower'. The problem is it's kind of in a gray area, because it's both undergraduate and graduate at the same time. So perhaps it'd be best to include all three fields, Grad, Lower and Upper together. --Comayagua99 (talk) 02:04, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK you are correct about that. I forgot that the undergrad is completely over to the B.Arch program now. I will play around with an edit and post if here to see what you think. CSLoomis (talk) 03:30, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Coral Way (street), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Coral Way. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:06, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In future if you want to move a page please use the "move page" feature rather than copying and pasting the text, which destroys the edit history and requires administrative tools to fix. Hut 8.5 14:19, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Neighborhoods of Miami

I think that was very clever - how you eliminated those pesky neighborhoods such as Beverly Terrace. As you saw in the talk for Neighborhoods of Miami I tried to kill five of them by putting db-spam on them and it didn't work. I'll try to remember that it can be done in the future with a redirect. I see you editing the article about the Roads. I really wonder about that statement that the entire 500 acre area was all sold in one day. I have this map: http://www.grovebook.com/images/Miami1914c.jpg that comes from one of those Miami-by-the-Sea brochures. It looks to me as though the Roads was already one-third plotted by 1914. No. It was your edit. The one to Little Havana was your adding the infobox nrhp for South River Drive. It could be fixed by taking out this infobox, or taking out the coords in this instance of the infobox or taking out the original coords or changing the infobox not to have coords. If I do it it would be the fourth choice.GroveGuy (talk) 21:40, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the various images that you added to University of Miami because they are not directly related to the article. It is not necessary to add photos of the Metrorail station, the football stadium, or the skylines of the campus locations to the article. It does not improve the article by adding various images that sandwich text between them, and it is most unnecessary to add large thumbnail sizes to said images.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 00:40, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Metromover ridership doubling

[edit]

Back in the 90s, were the hours of operation the same as they are now? It is considered to run from 5am to 12pm, but in reality it starts a little early and runs at least until 12:30, often times even on non event nights. And as it approaches closing, there is still a good amount of people on it, meaning the demand is there for it to run longer, possibly all night. And if it did that, more people would ride it because they could depend on it if they went out at night, for example, and wouldn't be going home until the early morning hours. Mostly my question is, has it always run the hours it runs now? Perhaps even when it was only the inner loop? Daniel Christensen (talk) 18:12, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Miami grid

[edit]

The link was helpful, but just reiterated my point: direction on the Miami grid is based north/south streets and east/west avenues, where the road intersections define "NW", "SW", "SE", and "NE", which is why North Miami Avenue and South Miami Avenue are both "Miami Avenue" and East Flagler and West Flagler are both "Flagler Street". I understood your point and in terms of practicality, you make sense, but in fact, streets on the Miami grid system are north or south and avenues east or west, especially if they encompass more than one directional zone. en:User:FrickFrack 22:41, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, however, streets in Miami are labeled according to their quadrant which are NW, NE, SW and SE. Road signs do not say North 20th Street, they say NW 20th Street.[1]

Well, the opinions were not equal with more editors supporting the move then opposing. Those opposing were mostly in the WP:OFFICIAL camp which is not the strongest position to argue. Please remember that this is not a vote and no one is suppose to just count !votes. The strength of the arguments has more weight. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:52, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The university's official media guide dictates the university be referred to as "FIU" as I cited here: FIU Athletics. Additionally, the local media, community and students refer to the university only as "FIU". I sent you a couple examples of that on your page. I believe these are strong arguments for keeping it as "FIU" instead of changing these pages for the sake of it "being less descriptive". There's only one FIU, there is no confusion to what university it is. Other schools that follow this standard are: UCF LSU UCLA NYU BYU --Comayagua99 (talk) 22:14, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus in my opinion was in favor of the current name. Add to the mix a series of what appears to have been improper cut and paste moves and the case for your proposal is weaker. Previous names for the main article were Golden Panthers and Florida International Golden Panthers so this move is really back to the old name which was, I believe, improperly cut and paste moved to the name that you want to use. Again, this means the discussion is more about reverting a previous move which requires less of a consensus. So again, the discussion does not support. Your appeals here are based on ignoring WP:OFFICIAL and adding WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, not strong arguments. I still don't see a consensus in the discussion that says it should have remained where it was. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:26, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Florida cultural events

[edit]

Hi Comayagua99,

I now live in Saint Augustine, Florida, and plan to work with cultural heritage organizations and institutions in the area. I'm reaching out to you because you edit loads of articles about FL and you live in Florida. It would be great to have someone helping from the southern part of the state.

Do you have any interest in doing either outreach to cultural heritage organizations in FL or on wiki assistance to new editors from this sector.

In particular, I want to get the ball rolling planning Florida events related to Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 that will happen in September 2012. This years focus in the US is images of places on the National Register of Historic Places. While living in Kentucky, my husband and I took and uploaded images of places on the NRHP so I have a general idea of the process. I'm most interested in finding the gaps in coverage of historical sites in FL, and figuring out the best way to get these covered with local events. Maybe road trips to get some images in the outlying areas. We have a good amount of lead time so I think that this is doable.

Additionally, I plan to work with the Saint Augustine 450 Commemoration (a four year initiative to celebrate the founding of Saint Augustine and settlement of FL through educational and legacy projects) to see how that we can add value to their current events, and possibly plan some joint initiatives.

I'm also working with User:LoriLee, the U.S. Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation, to create an listing of cultural organizations and institutions in the United States, and WMF volunteers interested in working with these organizations. The beginning stages of it are at Wikipedia:GLAM/US/Connect. We also plan to have State specific pages that link to the Wikiproject for each state.

Would love to hear your thoughts and idea, and to see if you have an interest in one or more of these projects? FloNight♥♥♥♥ 19:18, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Florida

[edit]

You are obviously a responsible editor. It would be nice if you could fill in something on the edit summary line so watching editors could understand what you are doing. In recent changes to Florida, the "look ahead" feature from the watchlist couldn't synch, and made it look like you'd strangely erased entire subsections when all you did was reposition a photo from the bottom to the top. This forces us to go to the article with each change and "check" what some of us would be otherwise willing to "trust" you on! Thanks. Student7 (talk) 12:29, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Population of Miami

[edit]

I see you just made an edit to the Miami article where you said the population in 1890 was 364. Could you please tell where this number came from. I've looked in several books and the only number I can come up with is 25 people in 1895: Allan Parrish. OFFICIAL DIRECTORY OF MIAMI. 1904. page 88. - GroveGuy (talk) 08:19, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That number comes from the 1890 Census. I too was also looking for a 1890 figure and decided to just go straight to the census. If you open this link: 1890 US Census and click on the Full Document for the first element under Part 1. It's a zip file. Open book 7 and its on page 26 under Dade County. Let me know if you can't find it. There's a lot of good data in there.--Comayagua99 (talk) 16:28, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You made me do ALL THAT WORK to get seven numbers? It looks to me as though 364 is not a useful number. That is the population of "the Miami precinct". I would guess the Miami precinct (364) and the Elliott Key precinct (105) together add up to what is today's Miami-Dade county with the other three precincts being in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Figuring out how many of these people lived within the boundaries of the current day city of Miami would be guessing or "original research". Since the city of Miami did not exist in 1890 I suggest you remove that line from the table. - GroveGuy (talk) 21:17, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, you asked where it came from. In 1890, the only inhabitable area in Miami would have been the settlement around the river, which would fall within the current city limits. The Miami precinct would have been this area. I think the 1890 population figure of 364 is as accurate as we're going to get for that year, especially considering the city didn't incorporate until 1896.--Comayagua99 (talk) 01:29, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In 1890 few people lived at the mouth of the river. There was the Brickell family on the south side and some squatters on the north side. There were two groupings of people at Coconut Grove and Lemon City; otherwise, people were scattered all over in 160 acre homesteads. Anyway, since the city did not exist in 1890 I am going to revert the line saying 364 in 1890. - GroveGuy (talk) 02:56, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good! --Comayagua99 (talk) 03:44, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Miami population figures

[edit]

Hey, Comayagua99. I have no idea where you pulled some of the figures from in your recent edits, but a spot check seems to support the previous figures matching the source that's cited (a 29MB pdf file, no less—grrr). Suggestion: if you're changing a sourced number in an article, please explain why you're changing it and what source(s) you're relying on. You can do that in your edit summaries or on the talk page if you need more space. I see you've been editing Wikipedia for years now, and I'm sure you have good reasons for these edits, but even the psychics among us may find it hard to figure out what you're doing and why if you don't say. Miami on Wikivoyage

[edit]

Hi, I've been looking for an expert on Miami for help with figuring out Wikivoyage's travel districts for the city.

We need to divide the city into districts, each of which should be able to serve as a good, fully-fleshed travel article, and there shouldn't be too many of them (to avoid spreading the content across too many articles). Essentially the question is of how to group neighborhoods. The discussion is at voy:Talk:Miami#Districts, and some good examples of how cities should be divided up are at voy:Chicago#Districts and voy:Washington, D.C.#Districts.

Having looked through the contributions histories of members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Miami, you look like the expert we need to help with this task, so I hope you wouldn't mind taking a look at the current proposal, and commenting. Thanks! --Peter Talk 20:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

North American English regional phonology

Hello, Comayagua99. You recently edited North American English regional phonology, adding two URLs as references. Both of those articles are already cited in the paragraph to which you added them. I removed the duplicates using the 'rollback' feature, since they couldn't be removed using 'undo' due to technical limitations. As a result, the more specific list of cities in south Florida was rolled back to Miami metropolitan area.

By the way, when adding web links as references, it's good to include at least a title (more information is even better). That way, the sources can be re-located if the URL moves. See Wikipedia:Link rot for a more detailed how-to. Cnilep (talk) 07:55, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Original language"

[edit]

Please don't add unsourced "original language" information to artcles about NYC places. This stuff needs to be sourced, as, in some cases, it contradicts the sourced information already in the article. Thanks. BMK (talk) 16:01, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Muñoz

[edit]

Comayagua, I just noticed that you moved the "Michael Muñoz" article to the new page "Michael Múñoz," the difference being the accented "u" in the first syllable of the subject's surname. Muñoz himself spells his last name with the tilde on the "n," but not the accent on the "u":

https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelmunozjr

Given that he is an American raised in an English-language environment, do you think we should defer to how the subject spells his own name? Please consider. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:43, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is just one of a number of page moves that you have made -- without discussion -- to add diacriticals to names of Spanish origin. In most (if not all) of these instances, these people do not use the diacriticals in their names. The correct Spanish spelling of a particular name is not necessarily the right way to spell a particular person's name. Your page moves are disruptive. Please stop making undiscussed page moves to "correct" the spellings of Spanish-origin names. --Orlady (talk) 18:22, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comayagua99, perhaps you might enjoy exploring an alternate venue in which to exercise your preference for Spanish language accents. It seems plausible to me that such might be better received (likely welcomed even) on the Spanish language Wikipedia, https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Portada.
As opposed to trying to force such upon the English language Wikipedia wherein it risks being viewed as culturally insensitive and perhaps even as sign of someone dragging in 'an axe to grind' in an attempt to make some sort of point* by persisting in forcing a non-neutral point of view in the face of multiple objections.
note: My attention was drawn here via https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rub%C3%A9n_Salazar&diff=615444182&oldid=607149872. Personally, I concur with those above that how an individual chooses/chose to spell their own name should take precedence over ancestral language conventions. Though I'm descended from a Fahringer, a Saneholtz, and a Schuler (in addition to a Jones) and speak a little German I don't see it as giving me some special dispensation to arbitrarily force German umlauts upon the English language version of Wikipedia. Something to reflect upon perhaps.
*Comayagua99, if by chance your 'point' has something to do with social politics in the U.S.A. please consider that the English language Wikipedia is intended as a resource for English language speakers around the world and that bringing in contention relating to a specific region results in disruption for all.

Ruben Salazar

[edit]

Hello. If I am not mistaken, you moved the page Ruben Salazar to a new page where Salazar's first name has an accent. To my knowledge (and I worked with him personally), he did not use the accent, and he pronounced his name Rue-buhn. Can you let me know any WP:Reliable source stating that he used the accent? Thanks for your help. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:43, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am moving everything back to the original page (without the accent). If you've got some new information about this matter, please use the talk page over there. Thanks again. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:48, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, I have to ask for help in making this change. But, again, use the Talk Page, wherever it ends up, to discuss this matter. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:50, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Miami accent

[edit]

I'm not deleting a "third of an article." I'm keeping the exact same information and sources, but in a more concise form. My question is why should a third of any article be comprised of something copied and pasted directly from another source? I don't think that's what makes a strong Wikipedia page. Some of the information is great and helpful, so I kept it, but using a more encyclopedic format, rather than the kind of language used in newspapers. Isn't it preferable for Wikipedia pages to be neat, short, and to-the-point whenever possible?

I'm not sure what you mean by the excerpted language "painting a picture of the accent". In fact, I think some of the writing in these articles may do more to confuse than to clarify. For example, they talk about how the Miami accent shares Spanish's "heavier L," when usually this exact sound (the non-velarized alveolar lateral approximant) is called a "light L" or "clear L." I am very confused by your recent edits to Cheviot Hills, Los Angeles, and Union Station (Los Angeles). It would help if you would explain in the WP:Edit summary box below. Annual ridership stats

[edit]

Good morning. When you do annual ridership stats such as on Metrorail (Miami-Dade County), do you go by fiscal year like the county does or by calendar year? The tech reports go October to September and go by the number of the latter year (e.g. oct 2014 to sept 2015 known as FY 2015). Thank you. B137 (talk) 14:06, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
