Defenceman
[edit]Well, I would definitely bring it up on the talk page because, as someone who doesn't know anything about hockey, I have no idea which is the colloquially used term: "defenceman" or "defence player". Of course, even if people are more likely to say "defenceman", on Wikipedia it is considered a good thing to use gender-neutral language when possible, so it might still be okay to rename it to "defence player". If no one who watches that article cares either way about whether the language is gender-neutral, then that's okay; you can still feel free to rename the article since no one expressed opposition to it. If someone else does oppose renaming the article, then you'll have to hash it out. As for how to actually do the move once you establish consensus (or at least establish lack of opposition), see Help:Moving a page. Hope that helps! Catamorphism 05:57, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Ontario Junior Hockey Teams
[edit]Hello, I am from the Owen Sound area, and currently am living in Windsor. Sadly... I know a lot about teams from where I am from... but not about teams from the rest of the province.
My niche on Wikipedia is doing pages for all levels of hockey below Major Junior.
I am kinda inviting you to help if you know anything about the history of teams or leagues in these four regions: Ontario Hockey Association, Northern Ontario Hockey Association, Hockey Northwestern Ontario, and Ottawa District Hockey Association. I have just finished doing the stats for the OPJHL and the Golden Horseshoe "B" League... I am currently tabulating stats for the Western "B" league... please go ahead and help if you can. In particular, I am looking for histories or people who can add histories. DMighton 04:38, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Comma Splicing
[edit]Glad you had a chuckle.... comma splicing is the rampant and unneccessary use of the little punctuation mark. I'm a bit of a grammar freak and take my obsession, if that's what you call it, a little too far sometimes..... but everyone has a pet peeve right?-Rainman71 18:01, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Wikiproject
[edit]Hi Coltscore, I will add the template to any other hockey related articles I start. As for the wikiproject, I'm not sure if I am detail oriented enough to really work on a wide range of hockey articles. Regards, -- Jeff3000 13:53, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Junior B Teams
[edit]Hello, a user has decided that he does not want us placing hockey stubs on Wikipedia to expand later into teams. In particular he doesn't like Junior teams... I was wondering if you could please voice your opinion. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thunder Bay Northern Hawks DMighton 01:15, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your message
[edit]Just to say thanks for teh message and to add that I am a very big sports fan - all sorts of different sports. I have nothinhg against Ice Hockey. I am just very concerned at the amount of non-notable stuff on WP - stuff that Joe Public wouldn't turn to WP to look up (I actually do think that some people would turn to WP to look up about Anne Frank's cats - as a teacher I can assure you their are chidlren who have asked!). So it's not, as some have claimed, an anti-ice hockey campaign - I just want to ensure that everything on here is worthy of its place and genuinely notable. I think there are many sports teams and people on WP that DON'T deserve their place along with all the computer and video games and characters from those games. I don't think that every chracater from, say, Star Wars, deserves its own article or needs it. Do you get where I'm coming from? Anyway, thanks for your message - perhaps you could get some of the more rabid members of WP:HOCKEY to calm down a bit - just because I suggest that one article is non-notable I've been personal attacked and abused, trolled (by at least two of them), had a perfectly reaosnable article I started AfDed because one of them wants to make a WP:POINT and had an WP:RFI started against me - and all for basically disagreeing with the notability of a youth ice hockey team! Please consider joining the WikiProject Narnia. Thank you! Bornagain4 00:52, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Re: WikiProject Ice Hockey
[edit]Hi, you contacted me a while ago about joining the ice hockey WikiProject. Sorry I didn't get back to you then, missed your message by accident until now that I was browsing through my talk archives. In any case, I would be interested in joining, although to be honest there's not much I can add except player statistics and basic facts, and that's a pretty boring job that anyone can do by using Google (this is why I haven't done it yet). Are participants required to be active all the time, or at least much of the time? -- Ynhockey (Talk) 22:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Quebec hockey
[edit]I really don't think "Lame" is adequate. Although, I am currently trying to do stats and histories for roughly 200 teams right now... while searching out libraries with decent microfilm facilities... If you know a lot about french teams, add a history. DMighton 15:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Whoa
[edit]Whoa, ColtsScore, I never looked at your userpage but your from Barrie? That's funny, I'm living in Barrie for the short-term, although I must say I am a big Kitchener Rangers fan and was really hoping for a Colts-Rangers final so I could go watch the games up here. Too bad. Oh and P.S. I also saw that you say you created Category:Barrie Colts alumni, when really it twas me in the history, so I'm guessing you populated it heavily. Just a clarification. ;) Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 06:18, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- That has been rectified. Sorry, I started with a list of stuff I created, then deleted most & just used it as a list to find things easily. The title has been removed (and I'm rather embarrassed! :) ColtsScore 19:41, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Its no problem I just thought I'd point it out, and thanks for the kind line. Unfortunately though I'll only be in Barrie til the end of 2007, so if there's a Barrie-Kitchener final, I'll be watching it from the confines of the Kitchener Aud. By the way I must say that's a funny Harry Neale line you got on your user page, I've never heard it before. Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 13:58, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hola! Thought I might like to add that the Rangers are going to the Mem Cup next year... s-weet... maybe if your Colts work hard they might be able to make their way to Kitchener come May of next year. Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 06:08, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hockey notability
[edit]Hey there. Thanks for the invite to join the discussion. I already said a few things, but I think that I will now step out of the discussion. It is too frustrating to discuss the actual criteria, when there is no clarity on the purpose of having the guideline. This is especially true when most of the discussion participants appear to have different reasons than those given in WP:N & WP:BIO. I think that I returned from my wikibreak too soon and will now return to that state. Wikipedia used to be more fun. -- JamesTeterenko 14:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Toronto Nats
[edit]Good question. And I do know the answer. There have been at least 3 different versions of the Nats... one was Tier II Junior "A" in the original OPJHL, another was Junior "B" and Gretzky played for them in the Metro... and the third was the "AAA" Toronto Nats of the MTHL (now known as the GTHL). Sheldon Keefe and Mike Jefferson (later Danton) played for the MTHL team under David Frost and (I believe) Bob Goodnow. Frost was banned from the MTHL for allegedly forging transfer papers to get Keefe, Jefferson, and other troubled youths onto the team. They probably had the same ownership, but sadly are not the same team as the Junior teams. DMighton 18:07, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think it would be more credible if it was written on the GTHL page... OR... if you can find enough info... actually make an article about the predicament... "The Frost Boys" or "The Quinte Five" (?? was that what they were nicknamed?)... write a detailed and sourced history... it would involve the Young Nats, the Quinte Hawks, Barrie Colts, the NHL, Bob Goodenow, the Pembroke Lumber Kings, the Jefferson Family, The Fifth Estate, the Frost exploitation charges, the Frost credit card fraud charges, Danton, Keefe, Frost... could be interesting... Western Jr. B
[edit]Yeah... sorry I couldn't write back sooner. The Western Junior B Hockey League was founded in 1969 after the original Western league declared itself renegade and a Jr. A league back in 1968, see: Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The problem with the league is that they like to change their name every year and they like to insinuate that they are as elite as a Tier II league by doing these name changes. The league was known as the Greater Ontario Hockey League for a while about 5 years ago... then they went back to Western Jr. B and now they know themselves as the WOHL. Presently, they are trying to merge with the two other OHA Jr. B league to create a super league known as, oddly, the Greater Ontario Hockey League. Nothing will really change at first though... they are saying they'd start off with the three original leagues -- Western, Mid-Western, and Golden Horseshoe.... and make them divisions..... and eventually expand the league so they can make four divisions... and possibly even jump up to Tier II Jr. A... God only knows if this is some silly pipedream they are having... DMighton 16:51, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
