User talk:Colony Capital
Welcome!
Hello, Colony Capital, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! (✉→BWilkins←✎) 16:45, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Username issue
[edit]Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. - Barek (talk • contribs) - 16:47, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Colony Capital (block log • active blocks • global blocks • autoblocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

Here are a few key questions:
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
- Do you understand conflict of interest?
- Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?
You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 18:24, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
{{unblock|I didn't properly read the rules for editing and user name. I have read them now and I just want to be able to correct some old information.}}

- You were asked 3 very direct questions - and you're not answering them. Any unblock needs to address them (✉→BWilkins←✎) 14:31, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Request reason:
1. Understand the Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and i will not use it as a business directory. But as an encyclopedia it should have the correct information. 2. I understand the conflict of interest and I will not attempt to post anything that can be construed as marketing. That is not my intent at all. 3. I understand that the subject must be notable. Again, I am not trying to market the company I am only trying to update the information. It is several years old. I just didn't read the instructions before I attempted to edit and now I am stuck with a bad user name and the inability to edit at all.
Accept reason:
Unblocked to change username. Please note that you are initially on a short leash and must avoid any impression of spamming. Please see WP:CHU for a username change. Your account may be reblocked if you don't quickly change names. Spartaz Humbug! 15:42, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
