Pic upload

[edit]

Hi,

I marked your photo "N1500.jpg" you recently uploaded with the "permission" tag, as you indicated in the comments that the photo is up there with permission. Unfortunately this is not allowed on Wikipedia; our content has to be released into the public domain or licensed under the GFDL. See Wikipedia:Copyright tags. Thanks - Tempshill 21:32, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

This picture was taken by myself, and can be seen on my web site at www.video99.co.uk. I wish to release it to public domain so as to comply with the wikipedia rules, but it's not at all clear how to do this. Colin99.

Ah, nice one. I'd always assumed that the "ghost image" was an idiosyncrasy of my TV... Fourohfour 00:28, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Betacam

[edit]

Hi Colin

I found that you have edited on the Betacam article and I though to ask you something about what is stated on that article (may not be your statement but I need an advice)

The article section that talks about the speed of Betacam SP tapes states following: "Actually, tape speed is slight slower in machines working in the 625/50 format, increasing tape duration of 1 minute every 5 of nominal value. So, a 90 minute tape will record 108 minutes of images in PAL."

Wikipedia is the only place I could find so far that preciselly determines that Betacam SP PAL tapes run slower so that a 90 min tape ends up playing for 108 min. I could not find another source on this. I have talked to some technicians and although they are familiar with the concept that the tape lasts longer they could not point to exactly how long will the tape be. Do you have any experience on this. It would surely help me a lot .

Thanks --Dado 16:57, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't a change I made (I added pictures I think), so I'm afraid I can't comment. Have another look at the history to see who may have made this change. Regards. Colin99 11:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Car_stereo_display.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Car_stereo_display.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Replaceable fair use Image:Sony bmc100p.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Sony bmc100p.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree 15:44, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Sony_bmc100p.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sony_bmc100p.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 17:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: Image:Lep partfail.jpg

[edit]

Image:Lep partfail.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Light Emitting Polymer display partially failed.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Light Emitting Polymer display partially failed.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 16:34, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Upload and Changes

[edit]

Hi,

I've uploaded your image Cvc tape.jpg to Wikimedia Commons so that it's directly available to all the versions of Wikipedia. You marked it public domain, so I hope that's okay.

I've also made a modified version of your N1500 image (already on the Commons site); you can the altered version here. Hope I haven't mangled anything(!) Thanks for uploading the original,

Ubcule (talk) 21:03, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Austriamicrosystems, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Austriamicrosystems. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Jezhotwells (talk) 22:04, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion is here - that is where you need to explain. Jezhotwells (talk) 11:17, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:1985 Vauxhall Cavalier.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:1985 Vauxhall Cavalier.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:SVR video recorder.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SVR video recorder.jpg, which you've attributed to From www.video99.co.uk with permissions.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 17:05, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Er, sorry about that

[edit]

The above boilerplate nuisance was my fault (sort of). I transferred your image listed above to Wikimedia Commons. I thought this would be useful, since it would get wider use there.

Unfortunately, once I did this, someone decided that "evidence of permission" had not been correctly registered in the OTRS system (or whatever) and plastered some boilerplate on *both* the Commons and original Wikipedia upload copies(!), placing them at risk of deletion.

(I think this was because they were listed as "with permission of video99.co.uk" or "colin99.co.uk").

Pretty annoying, sorry about that. I've asked for someone to contact you by email at your colin99@video99.co.uk address (listed on your websites) to confirm permission for *all* your images, to avoid this happening again. I realise that you've already granted this permission (and that you're the owner of those sites), but AFAICT this is supposed to be registered in the OTRS system.

Once again, sorry for inadvertantly kicking off this somewhat counter-productive nuisance. :-( Ubcule (talk) 22:19, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Additional; I've requested advice and posted further discussion at the File namespace noticeboard. Ubcule (talk) 19:03, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Video resolution

[edit]

I appreciated your comments in the Super VHS article, to the effect that luma resolution is certainly not the entire story. I would love to build a useful table comparing the various analog video recording formats, including bandwidth, horizontal resolution in TVL pph, and SNR, all for both luma and chroma. It would be nice to be able to say something about stability too, and perhaps columns where we can say things like "ENG" and "barely NTSC broadcast quality" for U-matic. But good references are hard to find. Jeh (talk) 04:04, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The problem may be, as is already tagged by someone else on the SVHS page, that this would be original research. Noise figures are hard to quote for a format, they tend to be quoted in the manuals for each machine from which an inference could be made of a format's performance. Stability is similarly hard to pin down, not least because SVHS, Hi8, Umatic and BetacamSP machines may or may not have digital timebase correctors integrated, which can have varying performance depending on machine model. You may be able to find a quote for a format's chroma resolution though.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

File source problem with File:Hobby frequency counter.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hobby frequency counter.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 14:49, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
