A curious edit
[edit]Hi, this was a curious edit, seemingly of a minor grammatical point, but it also set a certain 4-character string repeatedly into upper case, which could signify something to certain folks. I hope it was an accident. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:05, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Chiswick Chap, sorry about that. It was in fact by accident. Explanation follows further down. Please feel free to undo any cases of "MAGA" if you haven't already, while preserving the intended edit if possible.
- To explain what happened, it has two parts. One, I read a news site that turns acronyms into title case, e.g. NATO -> Nato and MAGA -> Maga. Two, I wrote a browser plug-in that changes page contents to better suit me in general. One thing it does is reverse this acronym nonsense.
- I didn't realize it would affect the edit pages, which it should only after a fresh page load. But I don't know what Wikipedia's page cycle is in detail. I will have to turn it off temporarily before future edits. Ugh what a nightmare, hopefully other pages weren't affected.
- No doubt this will trash my editor rankings.
- Apologies for any inconvenience, and thanks for alerting me to it. Codexor (talk) 19:19, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not to worry, I'm sure it will be all right; and many thanks for the reply. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi again Chiswick Chap, I have reviewed my edits over the last year, the time in which my browser add-in has been running. Only these articles are affected:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tree&diff=prev&oldid=1154312437
- I would like to fix "magazine" and the unfortunate Mr. Solis-Magallanes, but I don't know how, because they aren't text in the articles, but apparently some kind of cross-reference. A visit to Wikimedia Commons didn't clear it up.
- Any idea how to do this / who to ask to do this? Codexor (talk) 01:16, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not to worry, I'm sure it will be all right; and many thanks for the reply. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
