Your recent editing history at Maay shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. I’m not edit warring Maay Maay#Talk Coastalmerch (talk) 23:55, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are changing content back to the same edits you made earlier and 5 days ago reverted my edits that I restored back to the version you made by removing the Somali Bantus and 'Af-Goshe' dialect of Maay when it has been sourced, as was evidenced in this revert [1]. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 23:59, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not removing anybody now. I just placed Rahanweyn before Bantu. You said you don’t mind and I think it’s more appropriate to have Rahanweyn before Gosha since it’s their native tongue. Digil Mirifle it’s a Somali dialect Coastalmerch (talk) 00:04, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not say i dont mind i said it doesnt matter which order it goes in. As you are most likely a sockpuppet of an older user that was blocked, and are aware of Wikipedia's editing rules, I simply said earlier it does not matter what order it is in, because Maay is spoken by both the Rahanweyn and Somali Bantu communties in Somalia. Who are the original speakers of Maay???? Whose dialect was it to begin with???? Gosha???? Coastalmerch (talk) 11:17, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Jeberti people, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. One page move without discussion is ok per WP:BOLD. But repeating it after the title has been moved back by an editor who disagrees is disruptive and considered WP:move warring. Austronesier (talk) 20:33, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Somali has 24 million speakers. Why does it have to be included with those with just above a million speakers or two? Its an official language in two countries and a national language in a third, Djibouti? Coastalmerch (talk) 21:39, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. At least one of your edits on the page Somalia, while it may have been in good faith, was difficult to distinguish from vandalism. To help other editors understand the reason for the changes, you can use an edit summary for your contributions. You can also take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Please do not make changes that make the article less precise, for instance, changing 85% to "a majority" or changing a direct link to a redirect. Given your extensive history of warnings and the contentious topic status of this subject area, I'm going to ask that you please seek consensus before making substantive changes to Somalia and related articles about the Horn of Africa. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 15:24, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The information is inaccurate regarding the demographics. The source doesn’t say 85%, it only states that the majority are ethnic Somalis. As for the heading, Kenya is an actual country and should be named before any maritime borders. Geledi Sultanate should also be shortened in the info box as it takes more space. Coastalmerch (talk) 15:28, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's unconstructive and not helpful to link to a redirect when a direct link can be given; and since you can pipe the wikilink to shorten the displayed text, the argument that it "takes more space" is not persuasive. With regard to the ordering of Kenya, can you please indicate which portion of the MOS says countries should be named before maritime borders? Thanks. Finally, literally the very first source (the CIA world Facebook) says 85%, so your statement to the contrary is simply false. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 15:45, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I ask you kindly to go through the CIA source. Nowhere does it say 85%. If you visit the Demographics of Somalia page you’ll see the contradiction. I don’t know who chose to add 85% into the article but it’s inaccurate. I also believe Kenya should come before the maritime borders since it makes more sense. Coastalmerch (talk) 15:54, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am literally looking at it right now and it clearly says 85%. If the Demographics of Somalia page needs to be corrected to reflect that, that is a separate issue. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 16:00, 3 July 2024 (UTC) SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 16:00, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is what I found [3] Can you please show me where it says 85%? Coastalmerch (talk) 16:03, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're on a summary page. That is not the actually linked source. Go to the article, click footnote 1, and go to the archived version: it clearly says — twice — 85%. Somali 85%, Bantu and other non-Somali 15% (including 30,000 Arabs). Additionally we also cite the same statement inline; so changing the info box without updating the article itself would introduce confusion. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 16:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC) SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 16:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please don’t revert my edits

[edit]

You removed Dabarre from Languages of Somalia, for what reason? That’s not nice at all. Maay is not a Bantu language either. This is why I’m labelled a Sock? What kind of website is this? @Cookiemonster1618 Coastalmerch (talk) 16:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I feel provoked. Maay is not a Bantu language. It’s a Somali dialect why are you attributing it to Bantus? I don’t know what your intentions are but this ain’t running. It’s unacceptable. @Cookiemonster1618 Coastalmerch (talk) 16:43, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits were reverted as you are not here to build an encyclopedia and just came to wikipedia to insert your old edits that you were blocked for. Your a sockpuppet acccount that should stay blocked and any edits you make that are not constructive will be undone or reverted. Stay blocked and good day. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 17:17, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reconsider my contributions. There’s plenty of gems and dimes to be found if you really deep it. So much valuable information; Waaq is my favourite among others. Coastalmerch (talk) 18:11, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proto-Cushitic is golden. Coastalmerch (talk) 18:24, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Austronesier how come you removed the whole section? Are readers not entitled to know how the classification came to be? There are many Sudanese people that speak Arabic today as their mother tongue who want to know why they haven’t been considered Cushitic people. I spoke to one the other day and he was upset about it. Honestly.Coastalmerch (talk) 18:52, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
