Conflict of interest policy

Relationship with your photography subjects

I noticed that you add a lot of (high quality) portraits that you took yourself to Wikipedia articles of high profile individuals. While contributing high quality free photography to Wikipedia is very much appreciated, I was wondering about your potential business relationships with the individuals whose photos you add to Wikipedia articles. Are you paid for this work, if not, are your expense covered? If so, this would mean you have a (paid) conflict of interest regarding the subjects you take pictures of. In that case, it would be good if you didn't insert the pictures into articles yourself, but pointed the presence of your portrait out on the respective talk pages - for independent editors to decide whether to replace the current picture with your new ones.

I also note that you appear to have edited your own Wikipedia article. I think it would be good if you took a thorough look at (at least) the following WP policies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Paid-contribution_disclosure.

Hello, AncientWalrus. Thank you for your note. I receive no pay whatsoever for these portraits, nor are my expenses covered. I volunteer for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine and make photos of scientists, engineers, and leaders in medicine that I admire -- and give away all the photos under creative commons attribution licenses. Despite being notified of apparent COI 7 years ago on this talk page, you have continued to substantially edit the Wikipedia page you have declared is about you personally Christopher Michael. Many of these edits are definitely not uncontroversial and should not have been made directly by someone with a declared conflict of interest. I would strongly urge you to reread WP:COI and abstain from making any uncontroversial edits. Instead, it would be beneficial if you proposed any edits you would like made on the talk page. Hello. You may have one already, or at least considered, getting a book of your photographs together. Wikipedians who've authored books may be a good category, I'm not sure if there is a related category but probably should be (just thought of that, I knew there was a reason I came here to mention that).   Sure, evidence is that BWJones is an SPA who made 5 edits 16-18 years ago, then came back to vote keep with the argument "vandalism". BWJones knows the subject of the article as evidence here. Of course, this could just be a coincidence, that BWJones happened to stumble on the AfD. However, the subject of the article, Cmichel67 is very active themselves on the AfD (probably >50% of words there), see [1]. On the balance of probabilities, I consider it likely that Cmichel67 contacted BWJones off-wiki, which is what WP:STEALTH is about. This is just a warning, it's not a block, so the evidence doesn't have to be beyond reasonable doubt, as far as I'm aware. AncientWalrus (talk) 00:55, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi Cmichel67! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you.
