First, my credentials; I've been a professional camera journalist for 15 years, I was previously Deputy Editor of Better Digital Photography and What Digital Camera magazines, and I contribute to Amateur Photographer magazine in the UK. I was also Digital Photography Editor of the popular website TrustedReviews from 2003 to 2010.

I would like to take issue with the page title of Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameras (MILC). Absolutely nobody in the camera industry refers to this type of camera by that name. For at least the past four years the accepted name has been Compact System Camera, which is used by all manufacturers, most retailers and the majority of those in the photographic press, as well as the vast majority of the buying public, who are the very people who will be coming to Wikipedia to read this article.

While Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera may well be more technically accurate as a description, as a group name it is unsuitable because it is difficult to pronounce, and the acronym MILC is a homonym of milk, which could cause confusion when used in conversation. The same is true of the ridiculous and also unused acronym EVIL. Compact System Camera is less of a mouthful to say, and the acronym CSC is not easily confused with anything else in common use.

I would like to propose that the page be edited to give it the title Compact System Camera (CSC). The alternative names mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC), mirrorless system camera (MSC), digital single lens mirrorless (DSLM), digital interchangeable-lens system camera, and electronic viewfinder with interchangeable lens (EVIL) should be included, but with a note that they are not widely used.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Cliffsmith23. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Tony Hawks, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Your edit summary was: (To clarify, I know Tony Hawks personally, and he asked me to edit his page to update his photo and to correct the date of birth, which was erroneously given as that of the pro skateboarder Tony Hawk. I have an email from his partner and PA Fran that confirms these corrected details. Please don't undo this edit!) Tacyarg (talk) 18:52, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please accept my apology, I certainly didn't intend to contravene any Wikipedia rules. To add further clarification, I definitely haven't been paid to edit Tony's page. He lives not far from me and drinks in my local pub when he's in town, and we've chatted on occasion. We were talking about his Wikipedia page and its incorrect DOB and out-of-date photo, and I mentioned that I had an account and could edit it. His PA sent me a new photo and his correct DOB, and I edited the page to add this corrected information. I did so in the interests of making Wikipedia more accurate and useful for users, not out of any attempt to profit personally. As you'll see from my editing history I'm very inexperienced at this, so I'd welcome any advice you can offer to avoid any conflicts in future. Cliffsmith23 (talk) 19:10, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
