How references work |
---|
Simple references[edit]These require two parts;
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
== References == {{reflist}} (an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections) To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Clifford Smithe/reftest and try it out. Named references[edit]Chzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook"> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/> Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result. Citation templates[edit]You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look; Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref> Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result. For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs. |
Hope this helps.
I will change the status of the page from 'reviewing' to 'on hold' for now, which gives time for you to work on things. There is no deadline - if, after a week, it is changed to 'declined' don't worry; you can still work on it, and ask for it to be re-checked at any time.
When you want to make further articles, you may wish to do so in your own userspace, and then either ask someone to check them and make them live, or - when you are confident enough - you can move them to the live area yourself. This is, instead of going through 'articles for creation' all the time.
You can make pages such as;
- User:Clifford Smithe/Something
- User:Clifford Smithe/Test one
- User:Clifford Smithe/Test one
- User:Clifford Smithe/Test one
...etc etc. You can click those red links and make those pages; you can work on things in your user area with no problems, try things out, ask for help, and they can be moved live. I made those links to non-existent pages by simply putting *[[User:Clifford Smithe/Test one]]. The asterisk (*) just makes bullet-points.
You might want to make such a list on your user page, User:Clifford Smithe - that way, you will always have a convenient way to access your subpages.

- @ Clifford Smithe: (Great article!) have you considered creating an article on Khong Chang? There doesn't seem to be one, yet, and it would be great if you knew (or could easily research) enough about the topic to create one. It sounds notable to me (as it's Singapore's indigenous martial arts system), and on a purely selfish level I'd love to know more about it...! Incidentally, I posted (on Talk:Sifu Tan Siew Cheng) a question about the article's title (but as I'll freely confess I know nothing do feel free to correct me!) Cheers, TFOWRpropaganda 14:03, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey Chzz, yes i have information on Kong Chang and am in the process of creating the citations. Many oriental martial artist used to have a sort of scroll which lists who taught them and some also have one for the "moves" they are taught. (sure you have seen karate kid at some point!) I have a few of these and think it would make another interesting article but will have to look around for more research. I had imagined creating articles would be tedious but it is actually pretty good fun! Clifford Smithe (talk) 08:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
