Conflict of interest
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article User:Claire Paxton-Rider/EllaChi, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:01, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Public relations and Wikipedia
[edit]Frankly, the basic attitude towards public relations efforts on Wikipedia is that we treat them as a species of vandalism: we catch them as quickly as possible, revert or remove them, warn those committing them, and if the efforts persist we block the guilty party or parties. Public relations (however euphemized; and of course "public relations" is itself a euphemism) is about presenting one's client in the best light. Wikipedia, on the contrary, is about gathering the fullest possible information (good or bad) from the most reliable published sources. The only legitimate role of the PR professional here is to spot actual falsehoods and inaccuracies, and to bring them to our attention, preferably by notes on the talk pages of already-extant articles created by impartial third parties. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:55, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- A plugger is a species of publicist; the taxonomy of the profession does not concern me. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:11, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:EllaGlasto.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:EllaGlasto.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 10:12, 19 May 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:12, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Notability of Ella Chi
[edit]I notice you've been asking for advice from OrangeMike. He disapproves of all PR/publicity activities when they intersect Wikipedia, and so is unlikely to be sympathetic. A bigger problem for you is that I do not believe that Ella Chi achieves notability as defined by Wikipedia. This is a tight definition - I suggest you read WP:MUSIC and post back here with the parts of the first section (musician) that she meets. If you can show me that she meets the notability criteria, then I (who have definitely never heard of her) will help you write the article, which will go some way to appeasing OrangeMike. However, as it stands, the article does nothing to support her being Wikipedia notable, and is a terrible encyclopaedia article (probably a very good press release though - it's not that you can't write) --Elen of the Roads (talk) 13:14, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for your input... I have looked at the WP:MUSIC page and Ella relates to number 5) Her independent record label made Peter Andre's last album, number 11) Ella's newest single 'Cuz He Needed Me' was put onto the Radio 2 B Playlist, meaning the track was played approximately 6 times a week for 3 consecutive weeks between the 3rd and 23rd April 2010, and 12) Ella performed a session on the Jonathan Ross show on 8th May which meant that she was on air for over 30 minutes...
- Yes, I agree it does sound like a press release - I did not compose it, I am merely attempting to make it more encyclopaedic!!! Thank you very much for your help... Claire Paxton-Rider (talk) 13:30, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- As for point 5, I don't see what you're saying. She hasn't released any albums yet. So it seems the only claim to notability we have is this. I'm not sure if it's good enough. ×××BrightBlackHeaven(talk)××× 14:23, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- And that most certainly is not enough - significant coverage in multiple reliable sources independent of the subject is the requirement to demonstrate notability, and by any stretch of the imagination, she is not yet notable. It really is as simple as that. – ukexpat (talk) 14:50, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well, there^ ya have it. I looked at the other external links on the page, they don't seem to do the trick either. ×××BrightBlackHeaven(talk)××× 15:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi Claire. I think you've misunderstood a bit. Its not just the label that needs to be notable - Ella would need to have a couple of albums with the label to demonstrate wiki-notability. I can see that with the B list rotation and the appearance on Ross, she's edging towards wiki-notability, but not quite there. Making a BBC playlist is good, but she really needs A list rotation. This [1] suggests that she's still very niche. The set on Ross is the same - prominent show, but she only did two songs. It's marginal at the moment. If her single or forthcoming album makes one of the charts, or she gets a bit more coverage..... Remember that online media counts towards coverage (unless its her own MySpace etc) - did no-one review her at Glasto?
I think if you put the article up now, even with a rewrite, it would be deleted as not notable by wikipedia definition. There's no hurry. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a publicity site. When she makes it to the next level is plenty of time for the Wikipedia article. Elen of the Roads (talk) 19:52, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm feeling a bit rubbish at the moment, so I'm going to bed, but I'll come back over the weekend and comment on a rewrite of the article itself. Elen of the Roads (talk) 21:04, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- But why bother? ×××BrightBlackHeaven(talk)××× 08:28, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the constructive criticism Elen of the Roads - I think that I will wait until she has released her forthcoming album that is likely to chart to begin thinking about putting this article live... Thank you for the offer of your help, I will be sure to report back when I have more notable sources. Claire Paxton-Rider (talk) 09:23, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Feedback archived
[edit]Hi there.
A while ago, you requested feedback in WP:FEED. Because it has been a while, and you'd received at least some response there, I have now archived the replies in Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive/27. Please do not edit that page though; if you require further feedback, add a new request on WP:FEED.
I am trying to clear the backlogs; it would help us a lot if you could look at the requests from other users on WP:FEED and add any comments to help them out. Anyone can respond there, so please do take a look, and comment on the articles from other people.
If you want help with anything at all, you could either;
- Leave a message on my own talk page;
OR
- Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end;
OR
- Talk to us live, with this or this.
The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Best, Chzz ► 03:09, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Stokes
[edit]Thanks for the heads-up. Just put the following line (or something similar) at the top of the article and everything is golden:
This article is about the British music executive. For the American philanthropist and political activist, see James Graham Phelps Stokes.
