[edit]Hello ClaireHagen29. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Edmiston Yachts, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:ClaireHagen29. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=ClaireHagen29|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 08:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, I'm not being paid, but I want to add all the yacht companies because they're currently missing. I think it's important, especially with the rise in fraud and con artists in the yachting space, that more established brokerages and builders have pages. A few friends have been scammed with misinformation, and with the increasing popularity of shows like 'Below Deck,' along with issues like sanctions and the sinking of yachts, it's crucial for people to be more informed. ClaireHagen29 (talk) 08:46, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- I would like to understand how to do this so please do advise what I change I want it to be as factual as possible. ClaireHagen29 (talk) 09:21, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Cyberdog958. I noticed that you recently removed content from Force Blue without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. cyberdog958Talk 08:40, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- It is misreported and it is now for sale/charter. ClaireHagen29 (talk) 08:42, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Edmiston Yachts
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Edmiston Yachts, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. GPL93 (talk) 14:34, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
COI awareness notice
[edit]Anyone with a conflict of interest must avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your family or colleagues, your organization or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
Note that you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Even if you are not being paid, you are expected to disclose any close connection with the subject of the article, using the connected contributor template.
For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you.Deb (talk) 14:43, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Deb,
- I'm not sure what you mean by "close connection," but I'm trying to create a page for all the yacht companies, so I started with this one. Should I delete the page and start over?
- Best,
- Claire ClaireHagen29 (talk) 15:21, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you're not sure what "close connection" means, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Deb (talk) 16:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- I don't have conflict of interest I was just starting with this one! ClaireHagen29 (talk) 17:05, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- So you don't have any connection with yachting companies? Deb (talk) 17:19, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- No I do work in yachting but that isn't why I'm creating the pages. I know about them so isn't best I write about them. If you are saying you should only create pages you don't know anything about then how do you know it is not factual. As long each page is created with facts on what they have done and who works there then surely that is what it is about. ClaireHagen29 (talk) 17:31, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Your third sentence, though it may not seem intuitive, is basically correct. Articles need to be backed up with independent references, not by personal knowledge. You could be anybody, including a representative of a rival company. If you have any professional connection at all with a company, you should declare it on your User page.
