Potsie Weber

Hi Cindy! I left a reply for you on the Potsie talk page. --76.189.114.163 (talk) 21:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Cindy for your comments I am currently working on the references and citations when I have those done all of your issue will be addressed and answered completely.

Everything will be cited and notability will be proven through the addition of citations and references.

I will get to work on the references, now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LauraRenee360 (talkcontribs) 23:45, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Vblock

Hi Cindy! I just noticed the speedy deletion of Vblock and realized my error in saving over what was in my buffer at the time. I noticed you did not have a notation for suppling a copy of deleted pages. Would it be possible to get that copy of Vblock? I was able to find an older buffer and have submitted this for review. I've added the VCE (company) and Virtual Computing Environment coalition as well as cleaning up Acadia (technical partnership) to remove all press release references (thank you for catching that). I've also made an addition to my own Qthrul user page to highlight my bio per your conflict of interest note. Thank you again for your time and assistance.

Kind regards, Qthrul (talk) 09:36, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Is HardenPsy101 over?

There are a number of article talkpages which contain the following tag:

If this course is now over, can the tags be removed. It appears there are students from other colleges using the same articles as part of their course, and that can create confusion. SilkTork ✔Tea time 14:16, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Hey there! Confusion in the Education Program? Oh my stars! (tic) When the program was initially designed, the templates were intended to remain on the talkpage as an historical note of homage to the Education Program (or something like unto that). That said, I actually resigned from the WEP several months ago, so I'm not really sure of the rationale or the current intentions or desires of the Outreach team regarding the templates. I'm also not sure who to ping with this information. The Steering Committee is gone, many Ambassadors have resigned, and the WMF Outreach team has had some turnover. I think Lianna is still around. She can be reached at User:Ldavis (WMF). Let me know if Lianna fails to respond or you need more help. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 14:37, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
O gosh - is it that bad? Thanks for your comments. As students from this college had involvement ranging from trivial to harmful (and the supervisor had to be warned), and as students from other colleges have since edited a number of those articles with valid and significant content, I think it would be better to remove the tags, and I will do that where it seems appropriate. WikiProject Wikify and the future of wikification

Hi! There is an ongoing proposal at the project talkpage concerning the future of wikification, including possible deprecation of the {{wikify}} template which is being discussed at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 August 10. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Cindy for all the improvements you made to my article. It looks a lot better. The one that I would question is where in 'movement' you put Native American. This is a tad confusing as Mary was involved in 'the arts' in so many ways. She did in fact, patron, support and guide local Hopi and Navajo Artists greatly. But she herself was NOT a Native American Artist. Her paintings are best described as 'Tonalist'....by people who know such things.... Though I personally hesitate to put a label like 'movement' on her work. I would say that to avoid confusion it is best to just leave 'movement' blank... These terms of 'movement' are so debatable within the Art Culture that I would have to ask the an Art Curator. I have read the works of a couple of Art Curators trying to guess a 'movement' for her paintings and have not found a clear answer. But she is NOT an Native American Artist, though was a pivital part of the Native American Arts movement as an advocate and a patron. It is a point of confusion that I would due to cultural sensitivity leave the 'movement' section blank. Or there is going to be a huge heated debate. Sorry this is long it is though a discussion of Art...therefore not clear cut. Thanks for all your help it looks much better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LauraRenee360 (talkcontribs) 21:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Wickipedia Teacher of the Year Award
Thank you for guiding me through this wonderfully rewarding volunteer experience. One man at work said about my article, "She can't do that--I have a Master's Degree....only people with Master's Degrees can write history..."

Thanks for helping me prove him wrong.

Keep an eye out for men with Master's Degrees trying to rewrite the contribution we made to Women's History today.

Hi. I tried to be too clever with these articles, and thought I'd merge the new changes in Seacoast United Mariners back into Seacoast United and redirect. But then I realized that that would make a move back to Seacoast United Mariners a bit problematic. So I undid my changes, deleted the new Seacoast United Mariners, userfied a copy for the creator at User:Fhurion/Seacoast United Mariners, and then left some instructions at User talk:Fhurion. Would you mind checking to see if I've left it in a sensible state? Thanks in advance -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:25, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

No need now - the editor has produced an updated version of the original and all looks well. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:13, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I just took a look. I agree, I think it looks okay now. Thanks so much for your help! Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 19:43, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Great, thanks. While I'm here, do you mind if I ask why you're not an admin? -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:45, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for asking. Well, I've occasionally thought about it and have often been asked that question by others, but I think my nomination would probably be rife with peripheral complaints about the Education Program, from which I left in April. (I was elected to the Steering Committee last October, during the middle of the India Education Program fiasco.) As a member of the SC, myself and my colleagues often received personal vilification for the failures there, which honestly were not of our making. I've submitted a request for an editor review, which I'm hoping will provide some feedback to gauge the temperature of the community toward my work. It also provides a bit more background of my involvement (probably more than it should). My time working with the WMF and the WEP resulted in many people watching my work with a magnifying glass. Whenever I placed or submitted an AFD nom or CSD tag or maintenance tag that others perceived as inaccurate, I would have people pointing fingers and using my work in an attempt to validate their concerns about the Education Program. Then in February, I nommed an article for GA, which rightly failed due to close paraphrasing/copyvio (which has been now been sufficiently addressed). I accept my responsibility there, but continue to experience residual complaints. I just figure that an RFA would bring out the enemies of the EP in droves and result in a return of the gauntlet in my case. (Other than that? It always feels like somebody's watching me. LOL. I still have my humour!) Anyway, hope you have an awesome week! Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 20:32, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Ahh - personal criticism for the India Education Program is grossly unfair, but there do seem to be quite a few people who don't like the WMF for whatever reasons. I'll certainly have a look at your editor review, and will try to offer some comments. But with your great record here, I think I'd be more optimistic about your RfA chances - and if you should ever need a nominator, feel free to drop me a line :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:47, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Major Israel McCreight

I requested a G6 deletion for a move over Major Israel McCreight. Major was not an army rank, it was the name he was called. Ryan Vesey 12:13, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Thank you, Ryan! I went ahead and moved it earlier from the MIM misreading the content. I somehow read that he was a military major working with the Native American Indians. I've worked on several articles about the military in South Dakota and this article looked like the same. Of course, when I went to do some cleanup, my mistake was clear, then I got distracted with read life issues. Thanks again for your work. You are appreciated! New User

Hi, is it possible to make your user page locked to editing by other users? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dp51499 (talkcontribs) 23:27, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Hi there! Userpages may be protected by request, if there is evidence of vandalism/disruption or another good reason to do so. User talk pages are rarely protected, and are semi-protected for a short time, only in the most severe cases of vandalism from IP users. I don't see that there has been disruption of any kind on your userpage, so protecting it would not be feasible. Don't worry about others changing your page, since it can always be restore to your desired version. Continued vandalism of any kind, would be blocked. I've been on Wikipedia for several years and I think my userpage has only been targeted once. Of course, I don't make (many) waves here. If your page is vandalized, feel free to contact me anytime for assistance. You can also make a request for protection at this link: WP:RPP. Hope all is well! I think we had an edit conflict—at the same time I was moving Wytch Farm (Farm) to Wytch Farm (farm), you were tagging the former for CSD. The end result is that the redirect is now nominated for deletion and I got the CSD notice versus the article and the article creator. I suspect you'll want to try this one again. Kurt Oscar Weber

Hello, Cindamuse, Thank you very much for your enhancements of the Kurt Oscar Weber Wikipedia website. Colette Lindner Weber was Kurt’s 1st wife. The Swiss reporter misspelled her name. I have an old announcement from a Mexican Newspaper which announces their wedding. We have a link to her death http://harrellfuneralhomes.com/services.asp?page=odetail&id=27073&locid= I knew Kurt for 25 years and met Colette on several occasions. This is my justification for changing the last name to Lindner. Kitkatcook (talk) 22:14, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Hey there! Thanks for contacting me. In cases such as this, we cannot rely on personal knowledge, or what we refer to as original research. The correct action here is not to disregard one name for the other, but to reflect both names in the article. I removed your initial revision, due to the inclusion based on an unreliable source (peoplefinders.com), which differed from the subject's own Web site. The obituary is a reliable reference, so we can simply state that different sources indicate a variation in recording her surname. Then indicate those names and provide the sources. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks again. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 02:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

GOCE news and September drive invitation

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in its events:

  • The August 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is currently in the submissions stage. Submit your best August copy edit there before the end of the month. Submissions end, and discussion and voting begin, on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC).
  • September 2012 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit the articles tagged longest ago and to complete all requests placed before the end of August. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top six in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged longest ago", and "Longest article". This drive features a much easier signup process. We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

I do not appreciate your effort

First of all: opening with a line like "Welcome to Wikipedia" and "Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia" when communicating with a regular user is distasteful. Second, It may well be that you are right. Perhaps you are a native speaker of English, and hence, you can behold something in the text that I can't. It is not a big concern. Given that this is a stub article and I do not think that putting those tags there had any justification. I would rather you fixed the mistakes why you put the tags there rathen than edit-warring over them.--Nmate (talk) 09:20, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

  • When editors review new articles, a responsibility of the process includes identifying any outstanding issues and placing maintenance templates. Verifiability is one of the core policies on Wikipedia. Creating articles lacking references is a vital concern in the community. The "welcome" comment in the template is a standard message. Note that removal of maintenance templates, without addressing the issues to which they refer is considered disruptive. Restoring these templates is not edit warring, but ensuring compliance with community standards. If you have questions or need help with anything, please feel free to contact me. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 09:31, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
    • But you are edit-warring with me. We have a policy about the 3RR rule saying that it is prohibited making more than 3 reverts on a single page within a 24 hour period under which there are some exemptions like obvious vandalism, BLP violation, and reverting any edits to your own talk page. However, what you think of reverting disruptive editing superabundantly falls under the 3RR rule. In case you should not believe me, you are free to ask for anyone else's opinion about what the 3RR rule says.-Nmate (talk) 09:50, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
      • (talk page stalker) Nmate, maintenance templates are not there to criticize, they are there to help attract people to improve articles - they put the article in special categories that other people (eg copy editors) will examine to find things to work on. And if they are valid tags, you must not keep removing them - if you continue to do so, I will block you from editing myself. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:55, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
      • As an example, look at Halabor. It has no references and it should have some, and it could indeed do with a little bit of copy editing. Those two tags are, therefore, appropriate, and are intended to attract the attention of people who work on referencing unreferenced articles, and copy editors, respectively. You should not remove them. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:01, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Article For Deletion: Devyn Rose

Hello, thank you for reviewing our article. Tanya T6 is now Devyn Rose and if people go to the Tanya T6 wiki, it will redirect to Devyn Rose who she is now? We will add as much information as possible and what you recommend. We can delete the page Tanya T6 if that helps, please let us know.

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by PinkStaircase (talkcontribs) 16:39, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia guidelines require article titles to use common names. The accurate title is Tanya T6. The subject is known professionally as Tanya T6 and has recorded as such. At this point though, the article title is moot. Notability has not been shown according to established guidelines. As such, the article has been placed for deletion. You will find the information regarding the deletion process on your user talkpage. Please feel free to participate in the discussion. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 16:46, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
    • Do you prefer we use the wiki page Tanya T6 and have Devyn Rose redirect to Tanya T6?
      • The answer to your question is provided above. Neither article is appropriate. The subject fails to meet the guidelines for inclusion as found at WP:MUSICBIO. Note that the place to discuss the article is at the AFD, as indicated on your talkpage. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 17:29, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Cindamuse, please do not delete those pictures, I think I have clearly stated when I was uploading them, that I myself am Louis Wittek, founder of Ultrasoft and have therefore copyright to all those game titles and their artwork (as I have co-created & published every single one of them) as well as those magazine covers (as I was a founder, chief editor & publisher of Bit). • Oh, I won't delete the images personally. I've just requested a community discussion. The Fair Use policy requires that images accompany articles about the subject of the image presented, offering critical commentary. For example, cover art of an album may be used in an article specifically about the album, but cannot be used in an article about the musician. In the same vein, you have used the cover art images of video games and magazines in an article about an organization. The community will be discussing the Fair Use policy, as it applies to the Ultrasoft article and use of the images added. Note that while I have no reason to disregard your claims of identity or copyright ownership, we cannot rely on assertions without irrefutable proof. This is done for the protection of individuals and organizations holding copyright. I would recommend that you follow through with donating the images by reviewing the process and contacting the Wikimedia Foundation as instructed at the link. If you need help or have additional questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Cindy(talk to me) 16:34, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
  • I see. With regards to: "...cover art of an album may be used in an article specifically about the album, but cannot be used in an article about the musician..." - this is precisely why I did not use a single cover of a game or a screenshot from a single game, but a collage of several artworks. This has a twofold function: a) it demonstrates the type of products the company was producing. b) it serves as an unmistakable proof that the company actually existed and produced the products which it claims it did (as per General notability guideline: "'Significant coverage' means that sources address the subject directly in detail, so no original research is needed to extract the content.") Also, I am not planning to create a web page for each of the Ultrasoft's games, as I do not think they themselves are very significant (perhaps later, maybe a couple of the most successful titles) so it is necessary to illustrate for the reader what type of products are we talking here about. Similarly with the Bit magazine - the collage picture both demonstrates how the magazine looked like, and, backs the claim that it actually existed and has been issued between those two dates as stated in the article. And again, I have no intention to create a separate web page for the magazine, as I do not consider it so significant in itself. What is significant is the company Ultrasoft, which produced 10 times more titles than some companies e.g. Cyberdreams which are listed on Wikipedia for years, so I do believe that by not including it, the significant and important piece of the puzzle which makes up the history of video game development would be missing.
  • With regards to: "...I would recommend that you follow through with donating the images..." - I thought that is precisely what I did - donated the images to Wikimedia Foundation. Or not? Frankly, uploading images on Wikipedia is not what I would call a simple or straightforward process :o)) - So where did I go wrong? What option I was supposed to tick? Thanks for your help. --NeonPuffin (talk) 12:12, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Six

Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.
A lovely little teahouse nestled in Germany from Wiki Loves Monuments
  • Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
  • Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
  • New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
  • Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.

As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

SVS_Educational_Institutions

MS Cindy, please check there are two article of same institute , I do wonder which one is original , so had tagged both for deletion , article 1 , article 2 Shrikanthv (talk) 06:29, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Before tagging anymore articles for deletion, please review the deletion policy, including the criteria for speedy deletion. The A7 is not a "catch all" and never an appropriate criteria for schools. When reviewing two similar articles, 1. check to see if one can be merged to the other and merge if possible, then place an A10 CSD (rather then A7) on the article from which content has been merged, indicating the name of the duplicate article; 2. if the initial articles are the same, check the article to see which one was created first, then place an A10 CSD (rather then A7) on the article and indicate the name of the duplicate article. If you need help, please feel free to ask. Cindy(talk to me) 11:54, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
