Adelaide United squad

[edit]

This is the current squad as per the AUFC Website's Weekly Update dated 28 June 2010. It is now the pre-season, so the squads will be changing up until the kick off of the 2010/11 season. I will keep everything up to date on the English article, so I hope I will be able to work with you in future to keep the Chinese article up to date. Feel free to ask me any more questions. 如果你有什么问题别怕问我. 我中文是很简单的所以我不会帮助你修理中文版的article. - RedsUnited (talk) 09:09, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Asian Month

[edit]

Hi AddisWang. Thanks for organizing the Wikipedia Asian Month. With all due respect: I think that the Portuguese Wikipedia should be also taken into consideration. After all, there are Goa and Macau forming part of the former Portuguese colonial empire (the Spanish Wikipedia is participating). Best regards, --Fadesga (talk) 01:17, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks AddisWang for your kind answer regarding Portuguese. Now I have another further question: Japanese gardens in WAM. Thanks in advance for replying there (so that it remains for everybody to see). Regards, --Fadesga (talk) 20:23, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Asian articles for review

[edit]

I was wondering if you could help me. I've created a few articles for Wikipedia Asian Month, and I'm not sure if they meet the criteria. It seemed to me that the 3500 character limit was a strict limit, but the word limit was not: "a length of around 300 words". (Someone attempted to change this rule, and I have started a discussion on the talk page.) Anyway, would you be able to check out these articles, and see if you can approve them? They are all between 260 and 270 words, and if I were to add another extra 30 or 40 words, it would probably be mere padding and possibly decrease the article quality. The articles are: Asian Theological Seminary (260 words), China Graduate School of Theology (263 words), and Singapore Bible College (270 words). Thanks. StAnselm (talk) 21:34, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@StAnselm:Our tool gives us a roughly word count, which is usually more than it actually has. So if the tool says the article is more than 300 words but actually it does not have 300, we will still count it.That is the kind of flexible we want to give.--AddisWang (talk) 02:18, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, OK - thanks. I understand what the "roughly" means now. So am I able to access the tool? If not, would you be able to tell me what the (official) word counts for those three articles are? (I'm more used to DYK, which doesn't have a word limit at all, only a character limit.) StAnselm (talk) 02:41, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@StAnselm:You can see the judging result maybe a few days later and then you click comment you can see the reason why some articles are not qualified.--AddisWang (talk) 02:52, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I was wondering if the judging would be happening during the month (I submitted the articles a few days ago), or whether I would have to wait until the end of the month to find out (in which case there would be no opportunity to expand). In any case, I found that the Backlog elimination drive uses this script - is that the one you use? StAnselm (talk) 02:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@StAnselm:It is happening during the event, as you may see many results has given already. I don't understand any coding things. I can ping you once your articles has been checked.--AddisWang (talk) 03:04, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You marked three of my articles, Japanese aircraft carrier Chūyō, Japanese aircraft carrier Un'yō, Japanese submarine I-158 with Ps, but I cannot figure out what the issue is. All three have over 2000 bytes/300 words of expansion when I use the DYK word count extension. I'd be appreciative if you could double check these and tell me what the problem is exactly so I can fix them before the end of the contest.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:08, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sturmvogel 66:These three article are more than 4k bytes before expanded, see the comment link on the page for all details. Those articles are great, but just not fit the criteria. Sorry for that. Article like Taiyō-class escort carrier only a few bytes over 4k that should be counted. "You can also expand an existing article that is less than 4000 bytes."--AddisWang (talk) 17:46, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, this is what I get when I check Chuyo's last pre-contest edit:
   File size: 67 kB
Prose size (including all HTML code): 7651 B
References (including all HTML code): 378 B
Prose size (text only): 3227 B (542 words) "readable prose size"
   References (text only): 18 B
So exactly which one are you judging by? Or perhaps, the question is how are you measuring the sizes? And I don't see any comment link on either the article page or its talk page.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 18:15, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sturmvogel 66:I see some confusion here. So for expanded article, the article needs to be less than 400 Bytes, and you need to improve it with 2000 bytes and 300 text words. All the bytes here just refer to the bytes you see on the history page. Does that make sense to you? For example,Chuyo is 9,057 bytes before you expanded. Sorry for the unclearness. It's basically a simple rule.--AddisWang (talk) 06:03, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand now. Unfortunately, I suspect that I have many other articles over the limit when using this method.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 13:15, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Sturmvogel 66:Sorry for that unclearness.--AddisWang (talk) 22:23, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not seeing why Raorchestes coonoorensis was not approved — it was 1,453 bytes before my edits November 10 and 11, which expanded it by >300 words to 4,790 bytes. That is, <2,000 bytes before and >4,000 bytes after. Micromesistius (talk) 12:27, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Addis. I'm glad to see WAM is now beginning to take shape on the various Wikipedia language versions. I particularly like your new logo. I thought I should let you know that I have been contacting most of those still active on your WAM meta page, encouraging them to extend our focus on women to the languages they are covering. Perhaps you could do the same for your support for the Chinese Wikipedia (and any other versions your are handling). I am surprised there is no obvious support for Malay or Hindi. Is there any way you could encourage their support?--Ipigott (talk) 14:50, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Asia Month 2016

[edit]

Hey AddisWang! Thank you so much for inviting me to the WAM 2016. I would love to be of any help. Are there any particular topics on which you'd to see more pages? Also, I had participated in the contest last month (and you posted a barnstar on my page for that), but I still didn't receive my postcard for that. I wanted to know if you have any idea on that. Thank you.--Ronakshah1990 (talk)

Ronakshah1990, There is no certain topic the WAM is emphasizing, you are encouraged to contribute anything that you may interest into. I came back to last year page and checked, that all your contributions do not fulfill the requirements that the article needs to have sufficient reference. So despite you've made some great contributions, we can not make the exception to send you a postcard. Best Wishes,--AddisWang (talk) 16:11, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, I just want to confirm what is the minimum amount of word are acceptable and is size of the Infobox included? I just saw this article you accepted has 238 words (excluding Infobox) so am a little bit confuse. Thank you – GSS (talk) 12:54, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GSS-1987:, thanks for remind, that article does not fit the 300 words. It was my mistake. The word count does not include Infobox, template etc. Thanks!--AddisWang (talk) 14:49, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. I think you should inform Titodutta so he can improve his article for the tick and I have updated the rules at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Asian Month. Cheers – GSS (talk) 15:01, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi I have submitted two articles Rajpuri,Maval‎ and Prabhachiwadi was wondering they have not been accepted yet, is there any improvement to be made to them ? Thank you FITINDIA (talk) 16:00, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Fitindia: Have too many 2nd Level heading with little content in each heading is not recommended in editing Wikipedia. Please considering to rephrase the articles with less heading and more continuous sentence.--AddisWang (talk) 18:48, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: I have edited Prabhachiwadi please do have a look, if it is acceptable. Thank you 19:23, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Fitindia: Looks better. Also, you need to have enough resources in the article, likely at least one in each paragraphs. For example, in Transportation section, the content without reference will be considered as original research and shall not be contained by Wikipedia.--AddisWang (talk) 19:32, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: I have removed the Transportation section.Thank you FITINDIA (talk) 19:57, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang:Both articles Rajpuri,Maval‎ and Prabhachiwadi edited, rephrased and sourced please do have a look.Thank you again FITINDIA (talk) 05:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Fitindia: Thanks for you consistently improve the articles. I've edited a bit to build a better frame work and sentences. I've marked both articles as yes, and hope you can keep this article style in your future editing. Best Wishes! Rajpuri, Maval still need some changes though, but are minor things. You can follow the style of Prabhachiwadi and improve it.--AddisWang (talk) 18:54, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang:Thank you for the edits I will keep my feature articles on the lines of Prabhachiwadi FITINDIA (talk) 19:04, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have tackled the issues with the article Special Olympics Bharat. Please have a look and tell me if it is acceptable or it still needs some improvements. Thank you. Ankit 10:10, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ankit2299: The article is currently lacking of reliable resources. Ideally each paragraph should have at least one reliable resources. Please note Wikipedia is not a reliable resource.--AddisWang (talk) 13:19, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: I hope now the articles meets the requirements. Looking forward to its being accepted. Ankit 17:30, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ankit2299: Looks much better now! Good job. Just let you know there is an issue tag that you might want to solve, which is not a hard one. Thanks!--AddisWang (talk) 19:45, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: That problem has been sorted now, so that makes Special Olympics Bharat an acceptable article, right? Ankit 09:15, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Complaint about Postcards (Previous Year)

[edit]

Hello AddisWang
First of all many congrats for once again arranging the Wikipedia Asian Month. This is great job.
Well, Last year I submit Six articles and I was waiting for Postcard as I am needing it for experience purpose but I didn't heard from any member. It broke my heart as I spent lot of time collecting information and then putting it onto WikiPedia. My articles fully fulfilled the rules and regulations as per described previous year. Now? What should I do? I need it and I think I deserve one. Please get back to me and let me know.

@FWd82: I can assure you that your postcard are sent, and sent from Thailand. This is the nature of the postcard sending that the postal service is not 100% reliable and we can not control it. I do feel sad that when people don't receive a postcard. Hope you understand that.--AddisWang (talk) 19:52, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mate, it seems one of the articles I have submitted (Suvendra Nath Bhattacharyya) has been left out while you accepted the rest of them. Is it an oversight or is the article deficient in any way? Please let me know. --jojo@nthony (talk) 15:00, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tachs:, I will leave a message if there is any problems about the articles. It's just a lot of to do as I'm also organizing the event internationally. Only marks some articles that can be easily read and identify.--AddisWang (talk) 15:04, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not able to submit

[edit]

Hi - The article I created on Amiya Kumari Padhi last night is not going through your link for submission. It takes to a page where it shows me the features of the article but the add button is not activated. Can you help me understand why is that? --Parul Thakur (talk) 02:49, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ParulThakur:, Hi you have already submitted it. No need to do it again. Pyrusca (talk) 18:16, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pyrusca: - Thank you for responding. Yes, I was able to submit the link. I have a question for you and @AddisWang:. If there is a different language article existing in Wikipedia but not English, can I reference that article or I should cite the actual references separately? Is it okay to translate the existing article along with the valid references? Thanks in advance. --Parul Thakur (talk) 06:26, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No. Other language wikipedia articles are unreliable. Thus you have to cite actual references, but you can use the same references in a translation. Pyrusca (talk) 13:53, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Articles without references

[edit]

Hi,

GSS-1987 is creating a lot of articles, many of which dont have a single reference in huge parts of each article... will that be considered legal in the end? Tuga1143 (talk) 18:22, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tuga1143: Can you please give me an example so I can explain. The largest paragraph Demography contains 2 references and one of them covers all the information also all of my previously created article has minimum 4 references which are reliable (e.g. censusindia.gov.in and sbsnagarpolice.com) and I can't find a single article without reference so it will be very helpful if you can give me an example of unsourced/poorly sourced article. Please don't hesitate to ping me. If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|GSS-1987}} to your message, and signing it.. Thank you – GSS (talk) 06:34, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red

[edit]

In connection with the participation of Women in Red you promised a list of all the biographies on women. I can't find it anywhere. I think it would also be useful to have a full list of all the articles accepted for the EN wiki and perhaps a short overall report on the results for the 2016 event.--Ipigott (talk) 21:25, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ipigott So this is currently not on our priority (judging articles and sending postcard is). But we are right now trying to make a list of articles in all language about a person that does not have a gender statement on WIkidata. Once we get this finished, we can identify all female articles in all languages that contriuted to WAM. Sorry for the delay.--AddisWang (talk) 20:06, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I think we would be interested in receiving information on the number or proportion of female articles in the other languages too. I tried to encourage representatives of the major Asian languages to try to follow our lead by writing about women. May I take this opportunity of thanking you for the time and trouble you devoted to the contest and wishing you all the best for 2017.--Ipigott (talk) 09:35, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott: It's really nice to do this together with you as well as the WiR! Happy New Year!--AddisWang (talk) 00:26, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
