Tasmania article
[edit]Chuq, I noticed that in the article, you edited out the statement "80% of the population live in 3% of the states' land area." as you couldn't find any online source - this might be available on the ABS site by looking up the rural balance of Tasmania, but the figures are in CDATA software - you divide the number of people in inner regional/outer regional Tasmania by the land area, and that pretty much gives you the statistic - the next population statistic "down" from outer regional is "remote australia" - the definitions are fairly easy to find on the ABS site. If you can find something from ABS or online that's official or more accurate, by all means, please leave it in your talk box, I'd like to know too! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.176.7.23 (talk) 08:13, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

A-League all-time records
[edit]In reply to my (talk) page:
Gah, that's what happens when you get all confused with odd number of games. I think some may have been incomplete or something so I went and edited some. It seems to be fixed now by the looks of it though. Would take a fair amount of time to code that without some sort of help to make all the correct numbers appear as needed. Cheers for the correction though.

Cricket maps
[edit]Don't worry about changing things in my sandbox, it saves me from having to make the changes later. :)
I'll create another map just for the one-day comp, two seperate maps will probably make things easier in the long run. I'll grey out the ACT on the current map and leave it on both the Pura Cup and Twenty20 as is.
For the one-day map I'm thinking about maybe using the Aus+NZ locator map and colouring that the same as the current map, and then colouring the NT orange (I think that's the state colour)? Do you think that'd be okay or would it make just things a bit confusing? Bongomanrae (talk) 07:56, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that's what I was worried about. I ended up just leaving the NT grey and colouring NZ black. How do you like this?

Betacommand seems disinclined to fix its problems, if only because he doesn't agree that they're problems. I'd like to get him to fix one problem -- just one. He should change his bot so that it appends multiple notices. If the last thing on a talk page is a BetacommandBot dispute, then instead of adding Yet Another dispute paragraph, it should create a list of images. This would help the bot to be less offensive at a task which requires great delicacy. Can you help me get Betacommand to realize that this change needs to happen, or if that cannot be done, to get BetacommandBot banned? RussNelson (talk) 03:43, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop removing the see also links on the Newcastle Jets season pages. International Football Competition Infobox
[edit]Hello! Yeah, I was trying to fix it so that the "final positions" section doesn't show up if none of its parameters are set, but I couldn't do it yesterday. I realized today, however, that I was close to resolving the problem on my last edit that I reverted, I just missed one little thing (forgot to use }} ). But now it works, I guess, at least the the old revision of 2010 FIFA World Cup that was using the original template instead of the "future event" one shows up fine :-) ARTYOM 09:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Another user posted a note about it on the template's talk page. I added |champion_other, |second_other, |third_other and |fourth_other parameters, which can be used if the winning team is not in the {{fb}} template. The values of the parameters should be the original code instead of just winning country (e.g. {{fbw|Germany}}). Note that the template is called "Infobox International Football Competition", so it probably shouldn't be used for, let's say, basketball competitions, although it can also perfectly serve for that purpose :) ARTYOM 10:01, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I guess we could make it so that it doesn't automatically wrap the winner into {{fb}} template instead of introducing |champion_other parameter. Yet if you look at Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Infobox International Football Competition, you will notice that the template is used on mostly national men's team competitions, so there will only be a small number of articles that will require the usage of "_other" parameters. Association Football (soccer)
[edit]Why are you revert warring with 121.219.30.130 over this? It's OK to use "football" further down in articles, but soccer is the common name in Australian English and therefore should always be mentioned in the first sentence. Grant 06:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
hi Chuq, When creating the hobart suburbs template i added the area of sorell and the suburb of midway point, this was quickly removed and at the time i agreed that i didn't count as part of the greater area of hobart. However after seeing countless webpages Stating the opposite (eg [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]) i have decided to re-add these areas to the template. I'm making you aware of this in advance on the odd chance you see the changes and dont like them. If you're unhappy with the examples I've provided just google "greater hobart" + "sorell" for many more. if you still disagree please reply to my talk page so we can reach consensus on the issue. Kind Regards, Wiki ian 02:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Football in Australian English
[edit]Have a squiz at the entry for "football" in the Macquarie Dictionary, which lists all the games known as football in Australia. It notes that football = soccer is growing. It also says that Aussie rules and rugby league are the games most commonly known as football. Therefore, for the moment at least, whether one is in Tasmania, WA, NSW, Vic, Qld, SA, NT or ACT, the common name of the game is soccer, regardless of what the FFA, a few bureaucrats or a handful of Sydney-based journos may decree. Grant 06:16, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, the IP is me. I have barred myself for several weeks to reduce the ridiculous amount of time I spend here. Unfortunately the pommie-dominated Wikipedia
soccerAssociation football fraternity have decreed that "football (soccer)" is unacceptable. I find "Association football" unacceptable because no layperson calls it that and WP policy is use common names. I don't think "Association football (soccer)" is "overly descriptive" or "messy and unnecessary", although "football (soccer)" would be better. Grant 17:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

A-League
[edit]I understand your point, but I don't see why you need to do that when I already did the work to make a template that already does everything you need it to do. It's a modified version of the MLS infobox, which itself was only a modified version of the football league infobox. All I did was better format the terminology for the MLS, and since most of those differences are held in common between the MLS and A-League, I don't understand why they can't just share the same solution. I just don't want you do have to do more work than necessary. -- Grant.Alpaugh 23:52, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Cassy O'Connor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thewarranty (talk) 12:46, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

He's a crazy vandal, not a broken bot. He tried to have my article on the Northern Premier League's 2008-09 season deleted for being "...a very short article lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article..." despite being a comprehensive article of some 8,600kb and five screens in length. I see he's recommended one of your articles for deletion. I'm not normally one to recommend subverting established rules, but personally in this case I would suggest that you invoke WP:IGNORE and delete his request for the sake of Wikipedia and sanity. I would have done the same for my article, but two other Wikipedians - including a bot - already did it for me. Falastur2 Talk 12:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Chuq, I need a hand here. User:Forfuxake is adding a lot of material onto the above page, which is okay except that he isn't citing his sources. At the moment it looks like a WP:OR violation. I put a tag on the top of the page, but he has now removed it three times (not in violation of 3RR because the gap between the three edits is too wide) and not provided sources despite my placing that note in the edit summary. We've already had one dispute over the origin of the Burnie Hawks which is why I'm hesistant to confront him again on this issue. Would you mind? I didn't fill in the edit summary on my last revert because I did the undo and as far as I'm concerned removing the tag on this occasion qualifies as reverting vandalism. Pointer to discussion about TV episode redirects
[edit]Hi, Chuq. It's been a while since the dispute about TV episode article naming, and I hope all is well with you. I wanted to let you know that there's a new (much smaller, I hope!) discussion about whether to keep the redirects that have "unnecessary" disambiguation or not — one of the byproducts of an early compromise move in that debate. The new discussion is at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television)#Redirects, with related discussions at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2008 October 8. Hope to see you there. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 18:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

W-League Disambiguation
[edit]Sounds great to me - differentiating the US game from Australia's and others' via reference in US to USL W-League. Sounds fine.

York Park
[edit]Hello Chuq, I've recently made a fair few edits to the York Park page. Do you know what else could be done to improve the article. I've also recently listed the article for a peer review. Cheers Aaroncrick (talk) 03:43, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, As your an experienced Tasmanian (Former Launceston resident) editor on wikipedia, I would appreciate if you could look over the York Park article i've recently edited and see if there is is any clear errors. As you may well be aware the article is again a GAN. Thanks very much, Aaroncrick (Tassie Talk) 08:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah well I guess your no talkies. BTW the article is a GA. Aaroncrick(Tassie talk) 08:01, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

No content in Category:Tasmanian politicians
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Tasmanian politicians, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Tasmanian politicians has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Tasmanian politicians, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Meetup
[edit]Hey please convince all to have a piccie! Scuse my incessant intemperate comments re the project/silences - I have suggested the visitors should try for some publicity :) - might get a few more contributorss on board. Had thought of trying to track you down when i was wandering Hobart a few weeks ago but had sworn myself to internet silence for close to a month, it was great. cheers SatuSuro 10:12, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
A-League number of teams
[edit]If the season coming up will have 10 teams, then I would change it now to say there are 10 teams in the league. If you look at the MLS article, you'll see that is what we've done. Seattle Sounders FC have not kicked a ball in anger, but we list the league as having 15 teams, have them included as one of the teams in the Western Conference (not as a "future" team), etc. So if that is the situation, I would just make the change and remove the parenthetical from the equation entirely. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:48, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Another issue I was unsure about would be the inclusion of the team colors in the list of teams and around the map. I didn't remove them because I've seen these on a number of Aussie sports articles, and I wanted to respect something that might (unbeknownst to me) be a uniquely Aussie tradition. If this is not the case, however, these should be removed as they exist solely for decoration. If you want to see the club's logo or colors, you should click on the link to go to their article. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:50, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Vote for Football as the Australian collaboration
[edit]Hi -- I recently nominated Wikipedia:WikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia/To-do for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight.
This WikiProject has been inactive for a long time and with the World Cup coming up, it would be good for football (soccer) articles to be in depth and comprehensive in Australia.

City sporting teams templates
[edit]Hi Chuq, I figured you'd be a good person to ask as you seem to be a bit of a soccer nut and also know the in's and out's of Wikipedia.
Long story short, I made a bunch of templates which list the major sporting teams in a particular city (ie: {{Gold Coast Sports Teams}}). Because I have to use "Association Football (soccer)" in each template it makes the whole template look ugly as the name area takes up so much space. I'd like to be able to use 'Soccer' as the name instead.
I know this is not in line with the naming convention agreement which has been made by others but I'm thinking that for these particular cases that it's not such a big deal to overlook it. What are your thoughts and do you know where I might be able to officially put this forward? Cheers Bongomanrae (talk) 14:42, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
