Image copyright problem with File:Aerialgoldcreek.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Aerialgoldcreek.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. [edit]Hi Chris. It was great meeting another keen Wikipedian on Saturday. I've just had a look at some of your work. I love the work you are doing - particularly on some of my favourite old homesteads! I had a little play with some of your reference/citation formatting on Cuppacumbalong Homestead, including concatenating duplicate references. It's a neat thing you can do here. See what you think. You can use the same technique to replace your "ibids" for example on your Gold Creek Homestead article. Hope this doesn't offend you - if it does, just ignore me. FYI, a year or so ago I created (for my own benefit but another user liked it and posted it to Wikipedia essays) a checklist for creating new articles. I haven't looked at it for a while but it may contain some things of use to you. Here is a link to it: [1]. Cheers, Sterry2607 (talk) 22:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit]I noticed that you have tagged one of my images. Can you explain. I am a relatively new wikipedian Chrisfromcanberra (talk)
- The Image File:Aerialgoldcreek.jpg. I removed a warning from the image page. You originally didn't specify the license, and a bot flagged the image as being problematic, but you then added the license. The problem flag was still there, and I removed that. The image is ok though, although not used in any articles. :) If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks for adding free content to Wikipedia! - cohesion 21:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
IMDB and Kerri-Anne Kennerley
[edit]Hi Chris, IMDB is not a reliable source, so if some one questions it we should look more for other sources. 203.158.61.110 is on iinet if that helps narrow down that the person is from Australia! I am doubting that Kerri-Anne Kennerley is 59 so that birthdate could well be wrong in IMDB. The person did not claim to be Kerri-Anne Kennerley did they? eg http://www.unofficial.com.au/celebrities/kerri-anne-kennerley.html states she was 14 in 1981. Your edit has caused this news story: What is Kerri-Anne kennerley's ageless secret?, we have to be careful with biographies of living people Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:09, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Jacka.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jacka.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ted Albert, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.milesago.com/industry/albert-ted.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 10:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Ted Albert
[edit]A tag has been placed on Ted Albert requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. NowCommons: File:Kings ave bridge.jpg
[edit]File:Kings ave bridge.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Kings ave bridge.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Kings ave bridge.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 07:40, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Titling an biographical entry
[edit]I am pretty sure that embedding a nick name in the middle of a name is against the style guidelines, so you should have the article called by the name the person is most famous for: Ted Albert and a redirect from the alternate names: Edward Albert. This is because a combined name would be very unlikely to be linked or searched by people, best to keep all the possible names separate. --- both those names are used, so you will have to qualify with something in parenthesis. eg Ted Albert (footballer) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:28, 29 May 2009 (UTC) --- one used by you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:36, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Guess what Rebecca already moved it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:35, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Canberra
[edit]Action on Canberra wiki front - is that you and Joseph are doing all the editing on suburb articles. Something you may be able to help with is Lake Burley Griffin desperately needs a history section, else it will be demoted from FA status. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:35, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
You may be interested in this link which shows what is happening in our local category. More is happening on Lake Burley Griffin than I expected. And I did not realise that User:YellowMonkey was working on our articles too. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:41, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Lake Burley Griffin
[edit]Did you mean to leave the history content showing on both the main Lake page and History of page. I assume you would delete the redundant content from the main page Chrisfromcanberra (talk) 02:39, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think the split is necessary at the moment, but it makes no sense for the daughter to be less detailed than the parent, so I just left it there. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:28, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, things like History of the ACT, Yarralumla, Canberra are sitting ducks for WP:FAR unless fixed up. I think your knowledge would be invaluable. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 07:12, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Please don't gut the history sections of featured articles. In order to remain featured, an article is going to require a very sizable history section to fulfil stands of completeness. I've reverted your edits to the Yarralumla article, since they would have caused it to lose featured status; I see the same has already been done with Lake Burley Griffin. Unless you're going to substantially expand the history sections, and improve what's already in the article, please don't break these out into new articles in the first place. Rebecca (talk) 02:17, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, compared to Waterfall Gully, South Australia it is similar. In comparison to FAs on whole articles like Canberra, Delhi, etc, well this is a suburb so sections on police, electricity supply, universities, newspapers and television stations, pro sports teams aren't really necessary. I think referencing what is there already is the main priority, adding anything missing as well. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 06:16, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
The issue, as I said before, is completeness. With a topic such as one single suburb, or a lake, there's only so much that can be said about the topic without delving into minutiae.
For Lake Burley Griffin, what else would you say about recreation, landmarks, or water quality, besides what's already been said, or the couple of additions I've suggested on the FAR page? There is, however, a tonne of quite interesting history associated with the place, with plenty of sources to go with it. As such, any article on the subject is going to have more on the history than anything else.
Yarralumla is similar. What more would you say about demographics, suburb amenities, or politics? I've seen another suburb article that went deeper into the politics, but it hit the level of no-one-who-isn't-a-political-geek-would-give-a-crap-about-half-of-this (and I say this as a political geek). Again, there's plenty of history, and plenty of sources for it. Thus, a complete article on Yarralumla is also going to lean quite sharply toward the history.
Now, on a different topic, say Canberra - of course, it's going to be a different story. There's more to say, and a whole range of sections could be included - as YellowMonkey notes above - due to the broader topic. That's just not the case here, and chopping out useful, interesting and referenced content doesn't magically create more potential content for the other sections. Rebecca (talk) 07:15, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- The New York Harbour article would definitively fail the criteria of being comprehensive, which is why at present it doesn't even qualify for Good Article status. Even still, the weight attached to each topic is roughly similar to the Lake Burley Griffin article - nearly half the article on history, and a couple of paragraphs for the other sections.
- Furthermore, the "marine life" and "geography" sections are a terrific example of how not to write a featured article - they've got sub-articles on topics, while leaving the original sections in the main article stubbish and incomplete. If they were merged, it would just about qualify for Good Article status. Rebecca (talk) 10:35, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how I'm missing the point when I said above that the example you used of breaking out content was a particularly bad one, and that the article would more ably meet Wikipedia's quality standards if the articles were merged.
- Please don't take this as general criticism of your work, however. I've been following your changes to the Gungahlin articles and the various homesteads since you started on the project, and think you've done a great job with it. Rebecca (talk) 12:12, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Music Consultants Incorporated (MCI), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: MCI (audio). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

[edit]No, I do not know how to do this. Can you point me to an article telling me how? Robert.Harker (talk) 19:59, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Notice
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give MCI (audio) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Ah. Thanks for the info. Lost Gardens was entered under Bibliography. Best wishes Spangle (talk) 10:56, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Liberty Valance
[edit]I appreciate your efforts to clean up the Liberty Valance article, but the edits I made which you have now largely reverted were made in large part to fix errors you yourself had made. You have certain things out of order from the actual film (the greeting of old friends happens at the beginning, not the end; the interview by the reporter begins early in the film, not at the end; it's the editor, not his reporter, who burns the notes, etc., etc.) There are grammatical errors also that you have put back after my corrections ("The townsfolks is...", for example.) How about we work together to get something that is polished, accurate, and encyclopedic, instead of just reverting things even if it leaves incorrect material in place? Thanks. You're invited to the Canberra WikiMeetup on 20 November 2011
[edit]Hi! We're having a Canberra Wikimeetup on 20 November 2011 at Siren Bar in Gunghalin from 2pm to 4pm. It's most just a chance to chat with other local Wikipedians, get a chance to go a different sort of bar (which is reasonably kid friendly, serves real food, and has non-alcholic options), and, if you're interested, learning more about what Wikimedia Australia and local GLAM projects are happening. We'd love to see you and any Wikipedia/Wikimedia/wiki loving friends you have there. --LauraHale (talk) 07:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Bonner act.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Bonner act.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Image source problem with File:Oaks Estate IBMap-MJC.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Oaks Estate IBMap-MJC.jpg.
This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:07, 7 January 2024 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --TheImaCow (talk) 09:07, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
