Ridgeway Rovers FC

[edit]

Hi Chris You say that Children's football clubs are not generally notable and there is no indication that this one is any different.

But any club with meagre resources that Ridgeway have who produce such stars as David Beckham and Harry Kane and also have produced Andros Townsend, Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle and Bournemouth’s Charlie Daniels deserve to have their achievements registered.

This information is something that I and lots of other people involved in sport would like to see on wiki as a) it is not there presently b) to find the level of info I had on the page would mean multiple google searches 3) it paints the full picture of the concentration of good talent that has come through one small soccer club. There are clubs with multiples of the numbers in Ridgeway who never produce a notable player.

Therefore I do not agree with your decision to delete the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaelgegan (talkcontribs) 09:47, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Couple of Qs re notability

[edit]

Hi "Chris", Just seeking information generally. Firstly on Tonbridge Angels' page you amended the criteria for former players to exclude captaincy, and on Margate's removed the section altogether. I'm afraid I missed the earlier section on Margate's page, my mistake. However, "duplication" apart, am wondering about your reasoning of "vague/dubious" as these criteria are ones I have seen on any number of non-league club pages or why the section was not deleted after the earlier addition of Barry Thornley (not by me!) which created it (the section)? On the Tonbridge page I am wondering at what level captaincy would be valid, as once again this criteria appears on numerous pages. Thanks for any info.. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 16:57, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response. I agree it's unwieldy to say the least. As I say it does appear on many clubs' pages, so I will follow your lead, as it were, and quietly remove it. Your response seems to cover the Margate question also. Thanks. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 17:19, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Thanet derby

[edit]

The article Thanet derby has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:NRIVALRY is this really a notable rivalry? These teams have really not met that often, and never in league competition (always non-league) and never in the proper rounds of a national cup competition. I am not convinced there is any significant coverage outside of routine match reporting and local news outlets to support GNG ether.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Non-free rationale for File:1929FACF.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:1929FACF.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Football based British comics

[edit]

As you create Football based articles, I want to tell you that all these Football based British comics Roy of the Rovers, Roy of the Rovers (comic) and Billy's Boots were translated in Bengali during the nineties in Anandamela.

There were other British comics which were also translated, as Steel Claw. For some comics, I am not able to track the original British version. The English translation would be "The Mystery of the Blue Sky" and "British agents Fox and Nest".--C E (talk) 14:46, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AUFC

[edit]

Hi Chris. I have not finished the article on Addlestone F.C, but the club was formed because the original Addlestone and Weybridge F.C, who have played at a high level on the football pyramid, folded. I would like to ask you that you respect the decision to allow me to create this article because of the town's need for another local football team. I can link to the old Addlestone and Weybridge F.C if you think that would be better?

Hi. Really keen to see Carra Rud on main page in time for its 80th anniversary, later this month. Please please please could you chip in at the article's FAC? --Dweller (talk) 09:11, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chris. Thanks for your comments on the subject. Dweller is going to be unavailable for a bit so I'm going to try to hold the fort and push the nom forward in his absence. I realise there are three or so comments of yours that remain unaddressed, which I intend to get to tomorrow, but if you'd be prepared to re-visit the nomination/article to confirm that we're on the right track and that you're content with the changes (as long as you are!) then that'd be brilliant. Of course, if you have more comments, that'd be great too and I'll do my best to address them as soon as I can. Thanks for your input so far. P.S. I remember when you had three archive icons. Miley Windass

[edit]

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I put Miley back under recurring and guest characters. Even though it was said that Miley was staying in Canada, I think we should wait a little longer for the storyline to develop. Plus, many of the young children are hardly seen on screen, such as Jake, Lily, Liam etc due to working laws and that, so I think the reason it is said Miley is staying in Canada is due to the working hours of the 3 babies playing Miley.

I just thought I'd explain to you. Thanks,

Tony Pulis

[edit]

What's the point in having an extensive history for his time at Stoke City but only have 1 paragraph and 1 line for his time at West Bromwich Albion? When I decided to add more content there was nothing from February 2015 onward. An old football cliche is "a week is a long time in football." I think you will find 8 months is an even longer time in football...

I fully understand there is no need to list every transfer in and out of a club. That's why I only included first team regulars. I did not include incoming players who were signed on loan or for the development squads. And for the outgoings I only included two senior players who left at the end of the transfer window. I've copy and pasted a small section of his Stoke City history for comparison:

" In the summer of 2012, Pulis was again busy in the transfer market letting Ricardo Fuller leave bringing in a number of new midfield players. In came American duo Geoff Cameron and Maurice Edu, Scottish pair Jamie Ness and Charlie Adam, Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Michael Kightly, Blackburn Rovers' French prospect Steven N'Zonzi and former England striker Michael Owen.[65] "

Ricardo Fuller was a regular crowd favourite and was included at the start of the paragraph. Along with first team signings who the original editor thought would be regular players. Is that really any different from what I tried to add to his West Bromwich section? You could argue that my edit was more detailed, but that would just be a childish and petty reply on your behalf. I ask that you redo the edit and leave the West Bromwich as more detailed and extensive version similar to his stay at Stoke City. Goodlad84 (talk) 10:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:1921CupFinal.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:1921CupFinal.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|ChrisTheDude/Archive 20}} will produce an appropriate expansion,

File source problem with File:CharlesBuchan.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:CharlesBuchan.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. RfA nomination Qed237

[edit]

Hi.

I write this message to you as you are one of the administrators that I come in contact with on a regular basis.

The reason is this nomination at my talkpage from a editor that I dont have talk with very much, but I see him/her editing the same articles. I have been nominated by others before (never nominated myself), but in those cases I withdrew immediately, before voting started, because I did not feel ready.

Now I wonder if you, as an administrator, have any comments regarding this nomination or perhaps even questions? Do you think I have any chance of becoming an administrator and that I should move on with the nomination or should I withdraw? What is my next step?

Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you. Qed237 (talk) 01:49, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Intercontinental Cup (football) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. Premier League Awards

[edit]

Afternoon Chris, I saw your name on the FLC nomination for the various award lists we have for the Premier League. These appear to be under protection from a specific user using the FLC nomination as "consensus" for not allowing updates to the content. Anyway, I'd appreciate your input on recent changes made to the below:

I thought the rule on Wikipedia pages was that if a link is stated then if should not be repeated elsewhere on the same page? That was my understanding on the subject and why I was doing the changes, unless the rules have changed. I was thinking there was a gremlin at work changing my changes almost instantly. I wasn't aware of that ruling, sorry. I was just referencing a link to when he was manager of Strathclyde University Mens XI football team.Rusty1111 : Talk 16:18, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey there, I just used List of Gillingham F.C. players, a bit sly I know, without a ref, though as part of the WW1 footballers stuff I'm doing, I did see that he was recorded on the 1911 census as living in Gillingham and certain other things pointed to it being him. I listed the club as Gillingham as New Brompton became Gillingham in 1912 right, but he left in 1915, after name change? I guess you can correct his appearances and add Tony Brown as a reference. Willll4 further action required?

[edit]

Can't help wondering if it's time for further action to be considered against Willll4. His contributions are a catalogue of unsourced additions and changes against consensus. I haven't visited all of them, but from the spot checking I doubt more than 20% have stood without reversion. Mattythewhite has already left an uw3-unsourced two days ago, so is it time for a final warning? He seems not to respond to warnings on his talk page, so not sure what impact it will have? Pinging @Mattythewhite: for views as well. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 11:55, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure the user is editing as IP 77.100.141.214 as well. The contributions are in a similar style, to a similar set of articles, and with a similar percentage of edits standing without reversion.Gricehead (talk) 22:07, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The user and the IP have both attempted to re-add the same material again to the honours section of Rotherham United F.C.. I have posted on the user talk page, and have just enough good faith left to hope that they might read that and see the light. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 22:35, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
After reverting another re-addition after you reverted, I've pretty much given up AGF with this guy now. Thoughts? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 20:39, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
