Replaceable fair use Image:Matthew roloff mugshot.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Matthew roloff mugshot.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 13:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:ShawTheOtherLeague.png

[edit]

I uploaded Image:ShawTheOtherLeague.png. I received a message saying "Image is being used for decorative purposes only, and does not add encyclopedic value to article." I would like to know the Wikipedia definition of "decorative" as opposed to "illustrative".

Encyclopedias for centuries have elaborated on text explanations with illustrations of the subject involved. How can it be argued that A PHOTO OF THE SUBJECT "does not add encyclopedic value to article."??? The photo displays a VISUAL aspect of the subject that no amount of text can express. In other words, "A picture is worth a thousand words." SugnuSicilianu 23:26, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Matthew roloff mugshot.jpg

[edit]

Regarding Image:Matthew roloff mugshot.jpg, can it be said that the image is beng used for decorative purposes only, and does not add encyclopedic value to the article? If not, why not? SugnuSicilianu 23:34, 1 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:1960aflwest, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Templates like these shouldn't be used like this.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Template:1960aflwest|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Louis Alberto Guel 12:51, 3 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Pass the Plate.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pass the Plate.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated Image:Jorts.jpg for deletion. If you feel it necessary to again place this unencylopedic image back into the article, please remember to add the appropriate template to its caption (From WP:IFD: If the image is in use, also add {{ifdc|Image:Image_name.ext|log=2007 September 6}} to the caption(s).). --ElKevbo 02:31, 6 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Question

[edit]

Am i allowed to remove vandalism warnings, copyright image notices, etc, from my user talk page? User:Yamakiri user has threatened to permanently protect my user talk page so that i cant edit it. Can i remove copyright image notices at least? i hope you see this soon. thx Modelun88 00:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting of tired of going behind him... Anyways, he's removed block notices, and I'm not an admin so I just requested that his page be protected and that he get a block. P.S. he's copied and pasted this on quite a few pages now.Yamakiri 00:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

possible Alterego269 sockpuppet

[edit]

As you are familiar with Alterego269 (and his IP alteregos) I thought I might ask that you take a look at the contributions of Rock Soldier (talk · contribs). I've thought for quite a while that this users edits were, off and on, somewhat similar to those of blocked user Alterego269.(who BTW, is also editing as User:Heavymetalis4ever...but I digress) As for Rock Soldier, my suspicions grew long ago simply from comparing 'time of edits' when one came online... the other was sure to follow... when one finished... so did the other one Both used the same style of edit summary for a while too But over time Rock Soldier started to shy away from the copy-cat edit summaries. Now lately... especially over the last 2 or 3 days, Rock Soldiers edits have become glaringly familiar in style to those of Alterego269. Perhaps I am wrong. I would not pursue any type of RCU without asking someone else familiar with Alterego to take a look and cast a second opinion. Thanks for you help. Have a nice day. 156.34.218.39 03:15, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick peek. I am good at spotting Alter-IP-egos... I was actually starting to build up a little AGF on young Mr. Soldier... up until the last few days anyways. I was hoping I was wrong on that one... time will tell. Now "Heavymetalis4ever"... he was so obvious it leaped right off the screen... :D . You'd think he'd learn to use different edit summaries? Rock Soldiers recent activity on the Rush article is what raised my eyebrow recently. This sudden pre-occupation with band member tables n such. As for the time sharing edits... that happened back when Rock Soldier first started to edit... and ALterego269 appeared right around the same time. Both started out editing the same articles.(Def Leppard, Ramones... all the usual "Alterego-IP" haunts) But then very quickly Alterego went strictly for band member lists and re-arranging infobox information(something you should be more than familiar with with regards to the Kiss article)... and Rock Soldier began to focus on Song and album information. Edits that were, when he left his POV out, very helpful. He even got some kudos from Wiki-alf for his efforts. Alterego eventually got blocked... by... oh... someone :D... And Mr S continued about his usual modus operandi. My AGF remained good until the sudden flurry over the Rush content. Suddenly it was like he forgot which editor he was.... and his edit summaries almost became mirrors to A_ego's and HM4ever's. Perhaps I am being too paranoid? After 20000 edits as a logged user and another 20000 anon edits after I rejected my old login.... all the edits begin to look the same :D . Again thanks for your time. Good night. 156.34.218.39 03:48, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you're paranoid. If nothing else, you might consider listing Heavymetalis4ever and RockSoldier on WP:SSP. If they can be tied together that'd of course be a big find. Tying them to Alterego might be tough because that name's been blocked for awhile now. Just a thought. As a side note - what username did you have if I may ask? --cholmes75 (chit chat) 03:52, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS The IP STAY vote on the Rush band members AfD.... uhhh.... You know who. :D 156.34.218.39 03:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PPS I never invoked my right to disappear when I went anon. I simply saw a growing anti-IP trend happening and felt this went against what Wiki was all about. I thought that there should be at least one IP range that was noble and trustworthy... my own... so thats what I did. I haven't logged in for over a year and I still feel OK with what I do around here. Maybe someday I may decide to go back to my login. So I wish my own 2 "alteregos" remain separate until such time should that time ever happen. There are probably of few admins and editors who know exactly who I am :D. But for now... Wiki alf and a few others have nicknamed me "Libs" (because I am a librarian) So you may call me that too. "156.34" 156.34.218.39 04:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC) "Libs"[reply]

  • Good enough for me. I'll see if I can get the time (in between home renovation projects and football watching) this weekend to put together a case against our Alterego friends. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 13:08, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Based on what I've been able to piece together, I have blocked User:Heavymetalis4ever permanently as a sock of Alterego269. The IP address he used to vote in the AfD discussion is blocked for 24 hours. At this point I don't feel comfortable taking any further action with Rock Soldier. But by all means if you can provide some firm evidence I'd be happy to take a 2nd look. I will monitor his activities in the meantime. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 14:12, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FYI Keep an eye on Metal Head 4 life (talk · contribs). Strange creation of a template for the pop band Poison when one already exists?. Alterego used to frequent that template a bit. Mental Head may also be a logged name(for page creation purposes) for IP 24.76.120.37... who has been around for awhile and frequents many Alterego watering holes. The 2 are likely unrelated but the small similarities are enough to keep them low on my radar. Also... the template:Poisen???? thing can probably be Speedy D'd :D . Ahoy! 156.34.221.175 22:01, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
User:R n R High Another one. New account. Immediately going after Member lists. 156.34.220.123 10:35, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS He probably entered via IP 68.88.71.191. 156.34.220.123 10:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This strange preoccupation with adding a table here is not typical behavior. Same with template fixations [1] [2] [3] [4].. and a sudden use of "CAP LOCK hollering" when he disagrees with something [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]. All very Alterego-ish... but all so sporadic that I can't really make a proper judgement either. It's almost like he forgets who he is??? A {sock|Alterego} template was placed on his talkpage. For someone who knows how to use an edit summary... he removed it without so much as a peep. It was replaced Is that baiting? :D and it was not removed after that. I know if I was being accused of something I would be very vocal about defending myself... wouldn't you? But it's almost like he doesn't want to draw anymore attention to it. Aside from being "music genre impaired"... and this bizarre new fascination with adding a member table to the Rush article(which BTW was deleted previously by consensus as "not wanted")... his edits have been pretty much valid. I ask again... am I being wiki-paranoid :D ? I see Alterego's daily IP has decided to confront you in an uncivil manner. Which is not Mr. S's modus operandi either.(minus some recent CAP LOCKING comments) What's your take on things? 156.34.220.123 00:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tough call. There are definitely similarities, as you've noticed, but there are enough differences that it could just be coincidence. I agree that if I were accused of being a sock I'd fight it pretty hard. If I had to answer, I'd say that RS is not an Alterego sock, but that it's worth monitoring. As long as RS doesn't start getting combative or disruptive I'm inclined to let him be for now. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 13:32, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My AGF is thin and weak... but I will grasp it for all I can :D . He doesn't make it easy though... with edit summaries like this... something just doesn't add up. 156.34.225.235 22:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Djh picture.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Djh picture.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters 10:13, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Writing.Com page deletion?

[edit]

Dear Cholmes57,

I recently decided to see the entry for a website I really like, but it says that you had deleted it. Why did you do that? I'd like to know, so please respond.

Many thanks, Ashyen —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashyen (talkcontribs) 22:55, 12 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My wiki-paranoia about our on again/off again sockpuppeteer

[edit]

My AGF is thin to none on our young Mr. S. Can you remember Alterego269's fixation with putting band members in a certain order. I believe he called it member priority. Mr. S added a very interesting edit summary this evening that melted my already thin layer of AGF. I ask again, am I being wiki-paranoid here? Is it improper protocol to ask him directly why he does seemingly valid edits as RS and also edits under numerous names and IPs with a different agenda? 156.34.230.90 01:44, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS THE Alterego has another IP. It's 69.148.83.96 (talk · contribs). Just in case you hadn't caught that one already. 156.34.208.227 10:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I had blocked that IP for a week, but as soon as it ended he went back to work. I blocked it for a month. As for RS, that's a tricky one. The most I think can be done for now is to make sure he doesn't violate any Wikirules. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 13:06, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
