You tagged ACEC - Adams County Colorado Education Consortium for speedy deletion as a {{db-copyvio}}. CSD A8 only applies in the case of a commercial page, which ACEC isn't. The appropriate tag would have been {{copyvio}}. In practice, however, I doubt that anyone wants to rewrite the ACEC article in their own words, and some people would probably speedily delete the rewritten article as having no assertion of notability, so it really doesn't matter much. Thank you, by the way, for leaving the {{Nothanks-sd}} message on the author's talk page. Sometimes people who tag articles for speedy deletion neglect to give appropriate feedback to the original author, and I'm glad you did. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 18:24, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Need Help On a Jazz Artist Bio
I ran across a link on the Wiki artist list on musician bios needed for the drummer Ari Hoenig - some idiot, and I do mean idiot, from Australia that knows nothing about jazz (by his own admission) designated my page for speedy removal which I have asked be pulled - can you please assist? Thanks. It's idiotic that I should have to spend hours resarching and linking a bio because someone who has no clue doesn't think he's "famous" enough. Absurd!

Problem resolved, for the moment
Another admin came by by earlier and removed the hold - in the meantime I've added a "bitch" in the notability comments section. You may want to add to that.

On user RichardDavila
I see you added two warnings to his talk page. I looked at everything he did, and I feel that only the most severe warnings are applicable, seeing how he has vandalized numerous pages with that annoying picture. Is there anyway we can stop him quickly before he carries on any further? --THollan 15:21, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Lincoln Christian College
I feel I need to apologize for the vandalism of the Lincoln Christian College page, as I am a student at the school. I heard about it from the students I believe are responsible, and I went to check it out for myself, but it had already been removed. I don't know what the content was, but I appreciate you cleaning it up.
Again, I really am sorry for this. I have a great deal of respect for Wikipedia, and I hate to see anything that reflects poorly upon it, or my school and what we represent. Baurawt 02:11, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Didn't know the color code for album infoboxes was mandated.... I always wondered why so many of them were that ugly orange.... wikipediatrix 13:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, when I first started adding all the KISS album articles I tried to match the color with the album. There's some debate on their discussion page about changing the color scheme I think. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 13:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
prod ... failure?
You originally {{prod}}ded JN Kellett Elementary for deletion [1]; that template (as well as the {{notability}}) was removed w/o substantiation. I agreed with your conclusion and reinstated [2] the {{prod}} and {{notability}}, only to be reverted by the same unexplanatory contributor kappa (talk · contribs). Is WP:AFD the recourse here? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 02:18, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Elementary schools are normally considered not notable, but I think it might be a more productive use of everyone's time to concentrate on improving existing articles and writing new ones, rather than trying to delete harmless if unexciting articles about elementary schools. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 02:29, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Considering that it took me all of 30 seconds to comment on this article's AFD, I'd say my time was not necessarily wasted. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 02:39, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Your comments on Thatcher131's RfA
Cholmes, I'd encourage you to revist the RfA due to additional information regarding the incident surrounding Thatcher131's comment being posted. The comment is fairly out of context, and misses a great deal of the underlying history in the dispute. Thatcher131 was acting in accordance with an ArbCom decision. In fact, User:SPUI has been banned three times due to violation of his probation from the related RfAr. I'm not asking you to change your vote. I am asking you to reconsider your position in light of additional evidence and to do what you think is right, given that new information. All the best, --Durin 04:42, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Nishkid64's RfA thanks
Thank you very much for participating in my RfA, which closed successfully earlier today with a result of (60/9/4). Although, I encountered a few problems in my RfA, I have peacefully resolved my conflicts and made amends with the people involved. If you have any further questions or suggestions, feel free talk to me. I hope I will live up to your expectations. --Nishkid64 22:14, 26 September 2006 (UTC) |
As it's been a while since you signed up for admin coaching, I am just checking that you still wish to receive it. If so just add you name to the "Unassigned" section of the coaching box, and you'll be assigned a couple of coaches as soon as they become available. Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions. Cheers, Petros471 16:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching
Hello, I noticed we are both in the "unassigned" category at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Programs/Coaching box. Since I have no idea when we will be assigned coaches (I may break down and request adminship before then), I thought perhaps we could give constructive comments to each other. I haven't looked at your record at all, but if you're willing, I am too. What do you think? --Ginkgo100 talk · e@ 20:04, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
The time has come :) Your coaches are Hoopydink and Yanksox. Exactly what form the admin coaching takes is up to you and the coaches to decide, but a general piece of advice I give is to set up a user subpage (for example User:Cholmes75/Admin coaching) to keep coaching discussion together. That prevents things getting split up over three talk pages, which can get confusing! Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions. Cheers, Petros471 20:26, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Postal areas
Hi. I'm the author of those postal areas pages that you are labelling for deletion. Nobody else has spoken up for them, so I am not going to argue that they should be kept. In fact, I am offering to delete them all, if that is the consensus, so that you won't have to waste your own time on deleting them. If you get to the stage where you are ready to delete them, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I will oblige. Regards, --Heron 21:10, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Regarding your propsal to delete Image:Hanson steelwatertank.jpg
Cholmes 75:
This commenting on a proposed image deletion is completely new to me, so please bear with me. I helped the uploader of the subject image to select the proper licensing after she asked for my help. I firmly believe she had absolutely no intention of 'advertising' the manufacturer of the tank in the image and that it was a completely inadvertent transgression. In order to satisfy your problem with the photo of the pressure vessel, I simply used the Microsoft Paint program to "paint" over the name of the manufacturer that appeared on the tank, and that name no longer appears on the modified photo. I then uploaded the modified photo and retained the same GFDL license provided by the original uploader. I also changed the name of the image to Image:Modified Hanson steelwatertank.jpg.
Unless you have some objection to the modified photo, I will replace the original image in the Pressure vessel and Storage tank articles with the modified image. I will also see that the Hanson name does'nt appear in the image caption. Those articles really need that image! I hope that I have explained the situation adequately. In my opinion, it would have been much easier to handle this by first discussing it on the Pressure vessel discussion page before actually submitting the proposal to delete... especially because the original image uploader probably rarely visits Wikipedia. But that is water under the bridge and I sincerely hope that you have no objection if I replace the original image with the modified image. I will watch this page for your response. Thanks. - mbeychok 23:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- In my view, Wikipedia should not use manipulated photos (such as the photo where the manufacturer's name has been removed using Microsoft Paint) without a very good reason. Covering up part of someone's face with a black bar is one thing, but I don't see any need to cover up a name or trademark on a manufactured product. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 03:06, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- In most cases I would agree - but if you look at the original it looks like the name and phone number were added after the fact. The tank is curved and appears at an angle relative to the camera, but the print is perfectly straight. I completely appreciate that the image is probably helpful to the articles in question, but I just don't think that after-the-fact advertising should be permitted. If the information was already painted on the tank, that'd be a different matter. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 03:16, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Cholmes75, thanks for your response. More background may help to allay TruthbringerToronto's concerns. As one of the major editors of the Pressure vessel article, I had asked on that article's talk page if anyone could provide a photo of a new, modern, welded pressure vessel to replace the poor quality photo of an obsolete riveted pressure vessel that the article had at that time. A young woman emailed me and said that the CEO of the Hanson company was willing to furnish a photo such as I had asked for. I responded and told her that her CEO must be willing to license the photo as GFDL which meant that it could be used, distributed and modified by anyone ... and she should make sure that the CEO understood that. She did so and then she uploaded the photo. That original photo is still on Wikipedia. I did not delete it or overwrite it. I gave my modified version a different name when I uploaded it. So you can verify by reading her upload summary that she confirmed that the CEO as having granted permission to license it as GFDL with no disclaimers.
- I had been trying to locate such an excellent photo for quite some time. As I said before, the two articles using Hanson's photo, namely Pressure vessel and Storage tank, need that photo badly. Personally, the fact that the original vessel photo had the Hanson company's name on the vessel did not strike me as being unacceptable. But since Cholmes75 considered that a problem, I decided to modify the photo so as to satisfy his concern ... and I don't think there is anything underhanded about that. Many of the images on Wikipedia are modified versions of original uploads. In fact, I have uploaded some original drawings of my own making that were subsequently modified by others. I thought that one of the major ideas behind the GFDL license was to let people legally modify images. Is that not so? - mbeychok 05:26, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- My understanding of GFDL is that, even though it usually applies more to text, it is still permissible to alter images as well. And in this case, removing the name/number does not fundamentally alter the image. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 14:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

We're working on preparing the California Gold Rush article for GA/FA status, and are soliciting editors to come take a look at the article as part of the "peer review" process Wikipedia:Peer review/California Gold Rush. I noticed your careful edits to the John W. Marshall article, and would invite your attention to the California Gold Rush article! NorCalHistory 02:49, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments on this article (copied below), along with my reply on the article's peer review page.
- Image suggestion
- I don't know what previous versions of this article looked like, but I think it would have more visual impact if one of the images could be moved to the top of the article. That "History of CA" box is certainly useful, but its placement at the very top tends to understate the importance of the event. Just a thought. --cholmes75 03:26, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Steamships
- I noticed a mention of the [[SS Central America] in the article. You could also incorporate a mention of the Winfield Scott, which sank off the CA coast in 1853. -- cholmes75 03:30, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, very useful suggestions, both - by "the top" you mean next to the intro section. I'll definitely add mention of the Winfield Scott. Thank you! NorCalHistory 04:06, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
musical decline? yes. commercial decline? no.
The claim that the solo albums "signalled the beginning of their commercial decline" is a matter of opinion. When you reverted my edit, you said "it's covered by multiple sources including "Kiss and Sell" by CK Lendt", and yet those sources are not specifically cited for the statement. And even if it were, the article would need to specifically say that Lendt said that, and not just state it matter-of-factly.
The solo albums, combined, sold as much as the Love Gun album had previously, so there's obviously no commercial decline. (No one could have expected each of the four to sell in the same amount as an actual KISS album.) The problem was the glutting of the market with four solo albums at once, not that KISS was on the decline. Since Dynasty was a success and yielded a hit single plus a successful tour, there's no rational reason to call the solo albums the beginning of their commercial decline, regardless if that's Lendt's opinion or anyone else's. The sales of Unmasked were weaker than any previous KISS album, making it measurably and provably the start of their commercial decline. Songs from the Elder, then, is that decline in full swing.
Now, if you want to talk about a decline in musical quality, then yeah, I think most fans agree the solo albums represent the beginning of that decline. But commercially, no. The experiment of releasing four albums at once failed, but this is no way adds up to commercial decline, because they were still making the same amount of money as before, and in fact went on to even bigger commercial success with Dynasty and its accompaying tour. wikipediatrix 23:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Removal of www.modaljazz.com
Hi Cholmes75,
My website is an educational and an informative site with lots of content relating to John Coltrane. John Coltrane was a leading exponent of the modal jazz movement. It is the only website dedicated to modal jazz on the internet, so it seems an extremely relevant and useful link! My website is not a spam link or a profit making enterprise if this is your concern.

ModalJazz.com external link response
Regarding your response to my message complaining of the removal of ModalJazz.com from the external links area of 3 related jazz articles. I appreciate your comments on submitting external links to multiple pages. So here is my proposal - only include the links on the article "Modal Jazz" and "Kind of Blue" - this link is 100% related to the subject matter and is the only site on the Intenert completely dedicated to modal jazz. The site is informative, eudcational and not spam and a great resource for someone interested in thsi area. I cannot see any reasonable arguement for not including these links on these 2 articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.102.37.158 (talk • contribs)
