Hello CharonX/Archive 1. My name is KnowledgeOfSelf on Wikipedia, but you can call me Steve if you'd like. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. I just stopped by to say hi and formally welcome you to Wikipedia.

Here are a few good links for newcomers. I know that they can be boring, but I recommend that you take a look at them:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! You can come to my talk page if you have any questions. If I can help I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Or you can go to, Wikipedia:Where to ask a question. Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome! Have fun! Thanks Steve, I've been around reverting vandals for a few weeks, but decided it would be better if I finally got off my lazy behind and registered as a proper user :)

My mother did *not* grow up a few miles from Sharon's ranch

Hi. You've mistaken me for someone else. I had a good laugh, though. :D Best, El_C 04:32, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Erm.... ooops.... Guess Wikiing at 4 in the morning really isn't such an good idea (especially when one can hardly keep his eyes open, let alone think straight) ;) CharonX 11:32, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Hogeye's Page

You made a comment that I should read the various policies and I did. I'm not sure what you wanted me to read, I'm guessing that I should be a little less mean. I have had time to cool down and have apologized (somewhat) on the Anarchism talk page. I do want to know what exactly you wanted me to read though. Was that it? Or am I missing the point of your post? Either way, thanks, I think I will be kinder from now on, whether that was your intention or not. The Ungovernable Force 06:25, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I've accidently indented my edit once too often - it was meant for Hogeye him/her self, your edits and contributions are totally all-right from what I've seen, sorry again. CharonX 11:21, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

RfA thanks from rogerd

Bundesland-level categories

Hello! I see you are listed in Category:Wikipedians in Germany. I have made subcategories for each Bundesland in case you would like to add yourself to the appropriate one. See Category:Wikipedians in Germany for a list of the subcategories (they use the English names, the same as their Wikipedia articles). --Angr (tɔk) 15:55, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm back from my break though I will not be very active

Hey CharonX, I'm back from my break, thanks for the comments. I hope to see you around the Wiki! KnowledgeOfSelf 16:34, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Goodbye

Sorry to hear you're leaving. I think it is worth it, and I share your hopes for Wikipedia. I hope you'll come back sometime in the future when the ugliness has died down. TheJabberwʘck 02:48, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

It's certainly a good cause. Just remember, you're trying to persuade people here - follow WP:CIVIL, and think before you speak. I've been encouraged recently by the progress of Wikipedia:Userbox policy and WP:MACK. Maybe you won't have to "burn out" if we can get a consensus on a good proposal. Anyway, glad to have you back. See you around! Λυδαcιτγ(TheJabberwock) 02:47, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

MUPP

I don't particularly think it is rejected, just not adopted. Sadly, we do not have a template for such an occasion even though the situtation is not all that uncommon. (There was a template at Template:Notadopted, but it was a joke.) I do not plan to tag it as rejected again though. Maybe I'll make a real notadopted template. I would say a policy isn't even in the ballpark of being considered until it reachs over 70%. Kotepho 21:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

oh, no…you label everything or you label nothing…

You wrote on my talk page:

I saw your edit on May userbox policy poll. Could you explain what you meant by the comment above, I don't really understand it.

For some interesting reason someone took it upon themselves to insert a line in the "oppose" section, and no other, showing where the "deadline" fell, thus ostensibly demarcating valid votes from invalid. If you cannot see the problem with attempting to discount opinion coming from only one side of the discussion, then I am afraid there is very little I can say to explain. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 12:12, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I didn't see it that way. I don't share your opinion - the poll ran for a week and all votes after this time should not be counted, the comments are another thing however - but I neither feel its important enough to start another debate. CharonX 13:08, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

A happy star for you

The Barnstar of Good Humor
For your humorous comment on the otherwise tense talk page of WP:MUPP, I award you this barnstar. (And for seeing the irony mentioned on your user page - I couldn't believe more people didn't see how absurd that event was.) -Goldom 莨夊ゥア 謚慕ィソ 08:11, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Wow, thank you very, very much. I'll treasure it :) CharonX talk Userboxes 19:59, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

A test for listing in Wikipedia:Userboxes

Take a look at this edit. You might want to try something similar for one or two of your boxes. At this point it is just testing the water to see if anyone uses it or tries to attack it. --StuffOfInterest 17:01, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

My Userboxes

Thanks for your comment. You will find that when userboxes in my userpage get deleted I replace them with userifyied ones. But the idea of keeping an archive is a good one, as when they get deleted I won't have to get an admin to undelete the content for me. Loom91 04:04, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

The German solution

Hi CharonX,

Thanks for posting some information on how the German Wikipedia manages userboxes. I tried to summarize some of your comments at Wikipedia:The German solution. Would you be willing to check it for accuracy and completeness? Also, I've noticed more questions about other details are starting to crop up. Would you be willing to fill in other specifics and/or answer questions on the talk page? Thanks for what you've done there already too! :-) Regards, Rfrisbietalk 04:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd be happy to. I filled in the details, tried to keep close to the original, feel free to edit mercielessly. CharonX/talk 13:36, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes for the German solution

Just out of idle curiosity, I used Special:Allpages to grab a list of templates starting at User and then used a macro to generate subst and a link to the userbox side by side in a table.

So basically, this produces a master list of userboxes for the first page of them (the beginning of the alphabet through Co). There are a heckuva lot of them that aren't referenced in the library.

Anyway, if you are interested in checking out the list, here they are ... User:BigDT/Userboxes1 ... sometime, I might subst all of them and split them up into smaller alphabetical groupings ... so at least if they go away from template space, the underlying code will be there ... Regarding userboxes

I would like to personally invite you to take part in the discussion regarding The German solution. But, since I'm here in south-germany, and you are (quite likely) somewhere quite different, I'll invite you to take a peek, by leaving you a message on this talk page *g*. We try to solve this userbox issue once and for all, modelled after the way userboxes are handeled in Germany with great effect, as even Jimbo himself noted (and suggested). And since this is a compromise effort, we want to hear from every viewpoint, so we can create something we all can be satisfied with. CharonX/talk 21:36, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
The userbox debates are going in circles and spreading like wildfire across the Wikipedia: namespace. I have no interest in participating in them further. My support is currently on Mackensen's proposal and I hold no quarrel with many userboxes, but those that are intentionally or unintentionally disruptive, polemic, "divisive and inflammatory", whatever you call, it have no place. We do not need userboxes saying "Jews should die", "Fur is murder", or even "I'm a userbox with a POV, please don't delete me".
On an unrelated note, wie gehts? Kotepho 21:48, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Off to a wikibreak

I feel quite burned out in the last few days, on the positive side the userbox issue seems resolves, WP:GUS seems to work out quite nicely. But I just feel so weary after all that, so I'll just take a nice break. Yeah. CharonX/talk 00:04, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

GUS straw poll

Hi, CharonX, I've been working on a draft GUS straw poll too! Do you want to consider combining them? See User:Rfrisbie/Sandbox :-) Rfrisbietalk 13:57, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Great! Would you mind looking at my questions at the bottom of the page? Then let me know if you think anything can be combined or just added. You can comment at User talk:Rfrisbie/Sandbox. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 14:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
