Uploading Somerset pics

[edit]

Thanks for your message. Your upload of Image:BridgewaterBay.jpg and Image:Barringtonct1.jpg appear to have worked fine. You now need to go to the relevant article ie Bridgwater Bay and Barrington Court and edit the articles. You will then see the 6th button along is for adding images. Click on this and replace "Example.jpg" with the image name. You will also need to add |thumb to make the image smaller and ideally a caption as well. see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial for much more detailed info. You should be able to add yourself as a member at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset by going to the participants section & clicking on "edit" & then add yourself using the format the others have used. Hope this helps & get back to me if it is unclear.— Rod talk 21:07, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "edit this page" button at the top will enable you to edit anything on the page - but if you go down to the participants section & click on edit next to that it will just show you that section.— Rod talk 21:21, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I badgered Celia into uploading the photos in the first place, so I'll help out with adding them to articles. JamesMLane t c 23:00, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Burrowbridgeconfluence.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 12:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burrow Mump

[edit]

Well done for adding your pics & starting the Burrow Mump article - why not announce it on Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset#New articles?— Rod talk 06:42, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On to Long Sutton and a suggestion for a good Somerset page topic

[edit]

Thanks for the further pics. I think an article on Somerset towers would be a great idea - you might want to look at Buildings and architecture of Bristol for an example of an architecture article which pulls together lots of bits - if you want to do it out of the glare of other editors you could start a page in your Sandbox to practice with first?. If you want help just let me know. NB you wrote "I noticed on your page that you were planning" - the Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset is not mine it's everybodies & you are welcome to add (or remove) items from it.— Rod talk 07:29, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stained glass pics

[edit]

I like the pics of stained glass windows at Drayton, Somerset. Do you have a similar picture from Pawlett, Somerset as I've put this one up as a suggestion for "Did you know" (see Sept 26th with the hook "...that the Norman church in Pawlett, Somerset has a stained glass window showing Christ blessing children who are in modern dress and holding a teddy bear and toy boat?" & it would be nice to be able to illustrate it.— Rod talk 08:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Northcurrychurch.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:33, 12 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Lytes Cary Manor

[edit]

Hi Celia, I don't see any problem with Lytes Cary Manor on my screen - what browser & screen resolution are you using? Have fun in Pawlett.— Rod talk 11:48, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I use firefox as well - I think it must be that you are on a different screen resolution. I've added a couple of lines of white space around ref, ext links & gallery - but I think other editors will remove them. I look forward to the Pawlett pics.— Rod talk 21:47, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A start on Somerset Towers...

[edit]

Hi Celia, I hope you had a good Christmas. I like the start you have made on Somerset Towers, but you need to be careful of "peacck phrases" ( eg "beautiful" "crowning glory") as these will not get through WP:NPOV. I can probably add some more pics & some info. You might want to look at Template:Convert for heights, units etc. I think a little more text in each of the "sections" would be useful explaining what makes these churches group together. Have you also thought about the church bells - most of which were made by the Bilbie family Great work so far & let me know anything I can do to help.— Rod talk 09:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Othery

[edit]

Hi Celia, Ages ago I remember you had made a start in a sandbox on an article about Othery. I've now added this village to the requests at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset & I wondered if you could put your start into Othery as it would be waste if someone else started working on the same article?— Rod talk 18:49, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant thanks - I've added a few tweaks myself.— Rod talk 22:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from darkest Surrey...

[edit]

Hiya! Just because I happen to be interested in a subject doesn't close off the possibility that I know fuck all about it... admittedly, I DO know a fair bit about Bath Abbey, and about Downside, but I have basically discovered most of it by reading up on the web for my Bath rewrite... My other big thing as far as Somerset is concerned is the Somerset & Dorset Railway (centred around the old Bath Green Park to Bournemouth West main line, inexplicably closed in the 1960s)... I am also of some use wherever I go when it comes to pipe organs - the very comprehensive sections in the Bath and Downside articles on the organs are my work. Anyway, thanks for the welcome, and go easy on a Somerset-noob! :-) --Vox Humana 8' 23:51, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity for Somerset WikiProject

[edit]

Thanks for your comments - my own feeling is that the more the merrier. My sister in-law works for HTV newsroom & says they hate Internet stories - however I have got bits into Chew Valley Gazette & Mendip Times particularly related to getting relevant stories to FA & them appearing on the front page. — Rod talk 20:11, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the context this was written in, but if you are looking for ways to publicise the project, blogs and other online communities may be a fruitful avenue. For example, http://my.telegraph.co.uk/. It would probably be ok to make a post about new aritcles, or GA FA status. 'Somerset' and 'wikipedia' get tagged sometimes, and comments can be left. Somerset towers

[edit]

Hi Celia, The other day I picked up a copy of "Churches of Somerset" by A.K.Wickham (1965) in the library & it has a whole chapter on the towers based on Allen's classification. I was wondering if you were getting close to making your article public, or would you be willing for me to edit the article in your sandbox (something we don't normally do)? I just wanted to make good use of the book before I need to return it.— Rod talk 15:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've made a start on formatting, refs etc & done some expansion - I've put some comments on the talk page attached to the article in your sandbox - I will monitor this so probably best to continue discussion there.— Rod talk 18:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries re deletions - edit conflicts happen - I've put them back in. I'm stopping for tonight & will do more another time - any reordering of sections is OK by me.— Rod talk 22:38, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi good to see you editing again. I wondered what your thoughts are now about the towers article. I think it would be best to just adopt one of the schemes (possibly the first) & just say where others disagree about the classification. If you don't want to work on it further, it might just be an idea to put it out into the public domain, with a note on the talk page about problems & issues, and let others work on it as well as you? What do you think?— Rod talk 20:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well done for all your extra work on Somerset Tower I've added categories & project banners etc & also nominated it at Template talk:Did you know. We can leave the title & see what others think. Once it has been reviewed by a few people I think you should nominate it at WP:GAC.— Rod talk 09:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've rated the article as "B" class and think you should be looking at Wikipedia:Good article criteria & then nominating it at Wikipedia:Good article nominations.— Rod talk 08:32, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you happy for me to remove the claims (in picture captions) that St. Mary's, Huish Episcopi is "A classic Somerset Tower" & St. Mary's, Norton Sub Hamdon "An uncommonly perfect church" & St. George church, Hinton St George "A good Perp church" as someone has added a citation needed tags (unless you have sources for these claims) - then I think it should be nominated for GA - what do you think?— Rod talk 15:13, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I've sorted the references & nominated for GA - the feedback will be helpful in improving the article.— Rod talk 11:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) Have you seen the comments about the length of the page? Would you be happy for me to remove some of the pictures &/or the quotes?— Rod talk 07:58, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somerset Towers Images

[edit]

Hi there Celia, I have recently begun to work on a request by Rod (talk) posted on the Wikipedia Graphics lab to improve the images in the Somerset towers and List of towers in Somerset articles by corrrecting lighting, colours, angles etc. I have already started on several of the images but was wondering if there are any that you would like me to focus on as there are many?

Great work on the articles though, a very nice collection and portrayal of architecture. Thanks Tango22 (talk) 09:51, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stanton Drew

[edit]

Hi, I never thanked you for the kudos relating to my work on Stanton Prior, so thanks. On the topic of somerset articles I just wanted to say that the Stanton Drew article could be improved. The village is well known for its ancient standing stones, yet these are only briefly mentioned in the lead section. I think there could and should be a large section in this article which deals with the standing stones, I took some photos of them the other day but used a 35mm SLR so haven't had the film developed and converted to digital yet, but I will do so and add these to the article. I don't know much about the stones themselves though except that I think the site is pretty remarkable and certainly on a par with Avebury and Stone Henge. Somerset's very own ancient stonecircle. Jdrewitt (talk) 11:05, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The stone circles are dealt with at Stanton Drew stone circles which was split from the village article a couple of years ago. There is a hatnote link at the top of the article.— Rod talk 11:18, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

N. Curry vandalism

[edit]

Happy New Year to you to. I don't think North Curry gets that much vandalism. Looking at the history its only a couple of times a year - there are plenty of articles get much worse than that. You could ask an admin (which I'm not) but I don't think protection is needed (& goes against the open nature of wikipedia). As for why people vandalise that is a whole academic discussion - but I think the short answer is we don't really know/lots of different reasons/because they can :-(

I don't think an IP address can be blocked from editing an individual page but the talk page User talk:62.172.108.23 has enough to ask an admin at: Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism to take whatever action is appropriate.— Rod talk 12:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beer & Grade I listed buildings

[edit]

Hi Celia, No problem with Beer - I found a couple of refs which say it belongs in Aller, Somerset - cheers! I also wondered if you'd spotted List of Grade I listed buildings in Somerset & it's sub lists. There are loads of redlinks which are for churches where you've already done a load of the research with the work on List of towers in Somerset, if you fancied creating any of them - perhaps the ones near where you live?— Rod talk 18:54, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They already link to the village from the location column & I think anything with G1 is worth its own article (others have supported this view in various discussions). If you are going to do it can you click on the red link on List of Grade I listed buildings in South Somerset so that we get consistent namings - ie in this case Church of St Andrew, Curry Rivel. This can then also be linked to from the relevant village article & Somerset Towers. You may want to look at a few similar to get an idea for categories etc & may want to use a suitable infobox see Template talk:Infobox Historic building although some use Template:Infobox church depending on the focus of the article eg architecture or services. If you need help let me know.— Rod talk 09:02, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

lewy bodies

[edit]

I was the one to reorder the article. Your improvements seem ok, but I have some comments. Nevertheless I do not have time right now to follow closely the article. Treament and care should be merged. Maybe it would be a good idea to follow a similar structure to the treatment section in the Alzheimer's disease article. At the same time high quality refs should be found per WP:MEDMOS. youtube videos are NOT a quality ref (Additionally per WP:MOS no refs should be added in the titles).Best regards.--Garrondo (talk) 17:08, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

University of Massachusetts WikiProject

I noticed that you have attended the University of Massachusetts system. You are welcomed to join the WikiProject University of Massachusetts at your own convenience. If you have any questions for me, I will respond as soon as possible. Your participation is appreciated. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 01:56, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just stumbled across this article, and can't help thinking that they way in which it was split up was a travesty, despite the fact that it was indeed long.

The part that has been carved off and labelled as a "list" really doesn't fit the criteria of a list. However, it could be.... if it was laid out in neat little boxes with headings. An in text list of the "generations" and descriptions of them needs to be returned to the main article, with a single good example of each, where possible. Because the evolution of a classifcation system is described.

While I am not intimate with these buildings myself, I have a particular interest in architecture. Architecture of the medieval cathedrals of England is my work. I would like to restructure this article, if you don't mind, and would appreciate your input. Amandajm (talk) 11:53, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How are you? I've not seen any changes to this list so I've started at User:Rodw/Sandbox/Somtowers. Would you take a look & see if you think this is the way to go before I do more work on it. Thanks— Rod talk 16:28, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Peter Hedge, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peter Hedge. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Cameron Scott (talk) 15:32, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't optimistic about this, given the rampant deletionism that seems to prevail these days. I hope you saved the wikitext of the article before it was deleted. (If you didn't, an admin can dig up the final text and send it to you.) Possibilities now, based on the tenor of the AfD discussion, are to create an article that's expressly about the event, not the person, so as not to trigger the BLP1E objection, and/or to merge some of the material into History of the Church of England. (In the main Church of England article, there's a section on finances. Did this whole scandal have an impact there? I vaguely recall that the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston had to sell off some significant property to pay the settlement in a sex-abuse case.) JamesMLane t c 20:06, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How to Create References [edit] Referencing

  1. Type [1] where you would like the footnote number to appear.

2. Add a "Notes", "References", or "Notes and references" section at the bottom of the article, if one does not already exist. In that section, simply adding "

  1. ^ (My footnote text)

" or "

" will automatically generate the list of footnotes.

For a more detailed explanation, see Help:Footnotes. Please note that footnotes should generally be placed after the punctuation. [edit] Style

Within a given article, please use a consistent style of referencing that is appropriate for the topic and the sources used. If an article already has numerous citations when you begin working on it, try to agree with the format already in place. There are templates to assist with formatting: see Wikipedia:Citation templates.

Blazeman Foundation

[edit]

The Blazeman Foundation[1] is a non-profit organization that raises money internationally to foster awareness of and research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease. Branding itself as the "Multi-Sport Movement To End Lou Gehrig's Disease," the organization was founded in 2007 by friends and family of Jon Blais, a triathlon competitor who died of ALS in 2007. [2]

In 2005, Blais was the first person with ALS to complete a triathalon. As a rebuke to those who had predicted he would only complete the Hawaiian Ironman by being rolled to the end, Blais intentionally dropped and rolled himself across the finish line, a gesture that is now repeated by "Blazeman Warriors" supporting the cause.[3] As a popular money-raising cause and "reason to race" for professional and amateur triathletes, the organization is the subject of frequent press coverage in local news outlets around the world and in media devoted to running, swimming, bicycling, and triathlon competition.[4]

The organization operates under the leadership of Jon Blais' parents, Bob and Mary Ann Blais, his sister, Jennifer Murphy, and friends. Supporters include leading Ironman competitors, such as Chrissie Wellington, Leanda Cave, Andy Potts, Mirinda Carfrae, Matt Reed, Bryan Rhodes, and Scott Tinley. In 2011 the racing stars were featured in a music video to raise money for the foundation. [5]

Exemplifying the passion amateur athletes have for the cause, 18-year-old "Blaze Kid" Jennifer Hansen had raised almost $30,000 for the organization before reaching eligibility for her first Ironman event in 2011. The San Francisco athlete said the disease hit home with her in 2009 when a beloved basketball coach was diagnosed with ALS. [6]

Research funding from the foundation has been awarded to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center ($11,300 in 2011[7]), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine ($300,000 committed through 2012 [8]), and the University of Maryland, where the organization will be supporting the university's Brain and Tissue Bank in setting up a program for ALS patients to donate their tissue postmortem for research.[9]

Please use secondary sources for medical content per WP:MEDRS. Cheers Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 21:00, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just an FYI, you are still using primary sources at Osteoarthritis. As per WP:MEDRS, secondary sources are reviews, preferably systematic reviews (and not narrative reviews that cherry-pick research). RCTs and other single-studies are primary studies and are not really suitable for making medical claims. I suggest you modify or revert your discussion of the OA-modifying drugs. If you dont replace the primary sources with secondary sources, someone will revert your changes again.Puhlaa (talk) 15:52, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Ball (bishop), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page IRA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Allerexpress.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! File source problem with File:Viewofthelevels.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Viewofthelevels.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:BrigwaterBayMudWarning.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
