Article Evaluation
[edit]I completed my article evaluation on the article, "Ancient universities of India". From the beginning, I was confused because I clicked my link and it redirected me to an article titled, "Ancient higher-learning institutions". This may have been because another student has decided to change the name of the original article. While I appreciate the new name not including the word India (as the article is not only about India Universities), I believe the title of the Article could simply read, "Ancient Universities". Higher-learning institutions is wordy and unnecessary. The lead section was understandable and summarized the articles key points. What did not make sense, however, was the 'content' links. While reading through the article, sometimes the University would be referred to by name, and others simply by where it was located geographically. This was confusing to the reader. It would be more helpful to stick to referring to the University by name and then location so the reader can quickly identify the information they are searching for. This would be addressed as a structure issue. In the section focused on Nalanda- (which I had to read before I understood that Nalanda is the name of the university, not a city)- the following sentences seemed to not be matter of fact, "According to scattered references that were only fixed a millennium later, it may have dated back to at least the fifth century BC. Some scholars date Takshashila's existence back to the sixth century BC. ". It is my experience that readers do not want to question the materials fact fullness but instead rely on the source to be true. This means not using the words 'may have' or 'scattered references.' Regarding references, I do believe the writer used valid and reliable resources as sources. Overall, this article has a lot of information, but also needs a lot of editing and improvement.
