May I ask a favour....
[edit]Noticed in the Oscar Fulloné thread you mentioned the Complete record of Sheffield Utd book. If you still have access to it, and if it gives full names, birth/death dates/places of players, I'd be very grateful if you could spare a minute to look up Albert Rawson for me. Birmingham City complete record calls him Albert Norman Rawson died c.1980, and M.Joyce calls him Albert Noble Rawson died 1949. As the player was a Yorkshireman who began his Football League career with Sheff Utd, I'd hope their version might be more accurate. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 14:33, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- No full names in this source, only Albert and initials AN. Year of Death 1949. In the definitive Barnsley by Brian Dennis also initials only and Year of Death 1980. These clubhistorians probably copy each other, saves a lot of time. I would go for Joyce, the Sheffield book seems to agree with him. The Barnsley book is older than the Shefiield United one Cattivi (talk) 17:41, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think I shall go for Joyce. Many thanks for taking the trouble, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:28, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Since you cleared up the "H. Beare" issue in Blackpool: A Complete Record 1887-1992, I was wondering if you can confirm that the section on Harry Cookson on page 81 is a mistake. He, apparently, never played for Blackpool, the player in question is Walter Cookson. - Dudesleeper / Talk 22:23, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

- Yes, his name is Harry according to the "Oranje toen en Nu" books by Matty Verkamman (part 3 page 172) I really don't know where Brinvest/Voetbal International found Jim as his first name, and why various websites copy the Voetbal International books and not the Verkamman books. David Wilson
[edit]Hi there, would it be possible for you to find the league appearances of a David Wilson playing for St. Mirren in the 1901–02 season? I believe you have the Emms-Wells Scottish League players book. Many thanks, -- BigDom 21:32, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- 0 appearances in 1901-02, 2 in 1902-03 scoring 1 goal (still St Mirren). In 1903-04 5 appearances for Hamilton Academical. In 1906-07 he was already playing for Oldham Athletic: 38 matches in the Lancaster Combination scoring 2 goals. First known club Irvine Meadow. All according to the Emms-Wells book, I don't think the pre 1920 Scottish league stats in this source are always complete , but fortunately I also have the stats published in the IFFHS magazines years ago (by Alan Brown) Cattivi (talk) 04:39, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Stats from Libero nr. 34 (IFFHS/Alan Brown) 1 appearance for St. Mirren in ...1903-04 nothing in 1901-03 . James Wilson (one of several players with this name playing for St. Mirren in the early 1900's , not necessarily his brother) 1901-02 7-2 1902-03 22-3 1903-04 23-6 Emms-Wells 1901-02 6-2 1902-03 22-4 1903-04 23-7 (Alan Brown) Cattivi (talk) 08:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, I can change the article accordingly now. By the way, James is his brother. Would you say that the Emms-Wells book is more reliable? Cheers -- BigDom 18:26, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- There was another James Wilson playing for St Mirren in 1906-07 who can't have been the player mentioned above. I think both sources aren't always reliable. I checked a few pre-1920 Hibernian seasons in Emms-Wells, with 14 teams competing I would expect 26 X 11 = 286 appearances in total, this was not the case. The Alan Brown stats appear to be "more complete" , but are sometimes very different from other sources. I would always prefer a good club history book, but in Scotland these aren't always available. It's not easy to collect reliable and complete historical stats, sources often contradict each other. In Scotland well known players sometimes played under a Nom de plume for other clubs, trialists played under names like "Brown" etc. All this is not a problem as long as references are added. More reliable sources may become available in the future Cattivi (talk) 23:17, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Thomas McInnes
[edit]Hello. I wonder if you could be kind enough to look up any Scottish stats available for the Scotland international Thomas McInnes, Scottish FA profile here. Also, do you have anything to confirm where he played between Nottingham Forest and Lincoln City? Joyce says Bristol Rovers, but the SFA profile linked says Third Lanark... many thanks, Struway2 (talk) 11:02, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- There are 2 players with this name one born 22-3-1870 and the Scotland international. A lot of books got them mixed up. I believe Joyce is the correct version. The 22-3-1870 McInnes only missed one game for Luton Town in 1899-1900. According to my Bristol Rovers book Tom McInnes played 19 Southern League games in 1899-1900 9 goals (signed 9-10-1899 no previous club mentioned) This clearly can't be the Tom McInnes born 22-3-1870 as the Bristol Rovers book claims, The Scotland international is much more likely. In the first edition of the Joyce book Bristol Rovers wasn't mentioned (Third Lanark was), it seems to be a fairly recent discovery. Scottish stats for the International: 1891-92 Clyde 22-6 Port Glasgow 1904-05 1-0 According to Emms-Wells. Also Third Lanark 1899-1900 0 in this source (a very brief trail could still be possible) The other Tom McInnes played for Third Lanark in 1893-94 18 matches 8 goals Cattivi (talk) 00:51, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- I did wonder whether there might be some confusion with the "other" Tom McInnes... Again, many thanks for your help. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:24, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Felix Gillan
[edit]Hi there, another question about Scottish league stats. Does the Emms-Wells book have a record for this player who supposedly represented Queen of the South, Ayr United and Raith Rovers? I have his English league stats and date of death, but not date of birth, place of birth or Scottish league stats. Thanks in advance, BigDom 19:28, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking, it's most likely that they were Second Division appearances. On Gilbert Richmond, the Nelson book says only that he had a "coaching appointment" in Sweden starting in 1947, but no mention of time in Holland. It does, however, have dates of birth and death that I can add to the article. Cheers, BigDom 21:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Northern Premier League
[edit]Hello, me again. This is a long shot; I'm pretty sure that what I'm looking for doesn't exist. Is there a directory for the Northern Premier League of players and their appearances/goals in the 1970s. I am trying to find out how many games Willie Irvine played for Great Harwood in the 1973-74 season. Cheers, BigDom 08:24, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, I thought as much. I was asking in response to a comment at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Willie Irvine/archive1, so I think it would be fair to say that such statistics cannot be reasonably found. BigDom 16:57, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Ferenc Molnár (footballer) at Feyenoord
[edit]hi, I'd love enlarge this article on italian wikipedia and I'd need informations with links about his time at Feyenoord; do you have something? Thank you very much.. 93.56.40.77 (talk) 21:09, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hai, I'm not sure at all he ever trained Feyenoord. Maybe he did, but he's not on the existing lists. It can be very difficult to trace the careers of trainers in the Netherlands. A lot of them worked part time for several clubs at the same time, or only for short periods for one club (like only in the summer). Dutch football was not professional at that time and a lot of clubs couldn't afford to employ a fulltime trainer. What I found is a trainer named Molnar who worked in Rotterdam in the 1930's (first name Ignac) who trained Xerxes in 1932-33,1936-39 (probably more seasons) ,RFC summer of 1937 and earlier (summer of 1936?). Quick (Den Haag) summer of 1933, Willem II (1931-32) and Antwerp (1934-36?) It's the same Molnar who later trained Fenerbahce. Karel Ooms / Klaas Ooms and Daaf Drok
[edit]Hi
There's a big mismatch on the French Wikipedia between Klaas Ooms and Karel Ooms. I think it comes from the time when, on the Dutch Wikipedia, the page nl:Karel Ooms (voetballer) has been redirected to nl:Klaas Ooms. Klaas is born in Amsterdam, 9 June 1917, and Karel is born 25 september 1916. Hence the French page about Karel is 95% false as he wasn't selected for the World Cup '38. I fixed the mistakes and removed the interwiki links.
Concerning Daaf Drok, his file on www.bsdb.be mentions he played for Anderlecht during several years. The birthdate and position match between BSDB and the other wiki articles so I guess it's the same player. LordSuprachris (talk) 08:03, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Archie McLeod
[edit]Hello. Wonder if you could find time to confirm whether Archie McLeod is the same Archibald McLeod that signed for Partick Thistle from Parkhead ahead of the 1933/34 season and played for Partick in the Scottish League that season, before going to Derry City in 1934? The Daily Express of 31 August 1933 reports Partick Thistle signing centre-forward Archibald McLeod from Parkhead, (can't do a URL, sorry). The Glasgow Herald (2 Sept) mentions Partick having signed a centre-forward called McLeod from Parkhead; and the match report on Monday has the new centre-forward A. McLeod playing. But McLeod's WP page has him leaving for Ireland in 1932... Thanks in advance, Struway2 (talk) 10:07, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

William Brown
[edit]Hi Cattivi, thanks again for your help on the Len Puddefoot article. Is it possible to ask a favour? I'm in the process of creating a basic article for William Brown, who played for Partick Thistle, Vale of Leven and West Ham United in the 1900s. I wondered if he had an entry in the book you mentioned before (Scottish League players' division one 1890/91 to 1938/39 by Steve Emms and Richard Wells)? The Partick Thistle History Archive has him born in 1885 and playing for them between 1905-1906, but I can't use that as a reference as it's an external Wiki.[4][5] I have the details of him joining Thistle referenced from elsewhere, but I'm unable to find refs for the date he left, or his dob. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Nzd (talk) 19:20, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- There is not much additional information in the book:page 27, Born in Newmilns 1885, only 1 league game for Partick Thistle in 1905-06. Ayr Parkhouse 1905-06 (probably a loan but that's not in the book). 1906-07 Vale of Leven 16 goals, 1907-08 West Ham 17-4 (SL) 1908-09 West Ham 2-0 (SL) I have a copy of Partick Thistle Football Club 1876-2002 The official history (Reid, Kennedy, Thomson, Anderson, Deans) on page 130 there is William Brown 1905-06 4-1. The first one was a friendly against St Mirren on Aug 15th 1905 (p 141) On page 163 Brown is listed twice: A league game against Motherwell (H) Oct 28th + a Glasgow League game against Clyde May 12th both Inside Left. And another league game Third Lanark (H) Jan 6th, inside right. I can't find the goal he scored in this book. So there could well be two league games in 1905-06. There is no second Brown 1905-06 Partick listed in the Emms/Wells book Cattivi (talk) 21:08, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- That's awesome, thanks! Was there an appearance figure for Vale of Leven, or does it just say 16 goals? I think it's probably better to stick with the 1 League app unless anything else proves it. When you get a mo, would you mind taking a look, just to make sure I've understood you correctly? Thanks again, Nzd (talk) 23:04, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- If you're looking for appearances for Vale of Leven: [6] probably has more details, including exact dates of signing, but often no date of birth. The Third Lanark game was a league game. It's either 2 league games or 2 players with the same name each playing 1 league game. Cattivi (talk) 23:19, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- The Motherwell game was in October 1905 not 1906. I've got an other source Libero IFFHS-Magazine no. 34 III. Quarter 2001 page 31 William Brown 2 league games 0 goals (stats collected by Alan Brown) Cattivi (talk) 23:44, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
