Please lock a page
[edit]I've noticed the Eleanor page has been getting alot of vandalisim. Its really annoying me. Would you please lock it?
A Fond Hello
[edit]If you're an idealist, I'm a cynic. I've recently run into several people on wikipedia that are not vandals but what I feel are a bigger threat to wikipedia, people that truly believe they are right. Anyway, although we've never crossed paths (I stumbled upon your page via the trifecta userbox, in case you were curious) on an article, I enjoyed your user page (although I thought the daily deeds section was a bit spurious) and felt compelled to leave a comment. It's clear to me that you don't think of yourself as a leader, at least not any more than being a mother implies, but to simply refer to you as leading by example doesn't sufficiently capture it. Perhaps it is better put by Ray Kroc when he said, "The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves." Here's my thanks to you, not for raising the standards of articles but of Wikipedia.

Help?
[edit]Hi, Catherine, I'm sorry to trouble you, but one of my nicest knitting articles, Sweater design, is up for deletion and I need help in understanding the reasons for that and how I might amend the article. One thing that leaps out is that I should replace "The knitter should" with "The designer generally" everywhere. :( You're a fellow knitter, a good writer and a super-experienced Wikipedian, someone who knows both the spirit and policies of Wikipedia; I'm really hoping that you can help me to understand the objections and salvage the article. It all comes on a bad day for me; I'll reply as I can. Many heartfelt thanks and happy New Year, Willow 12:59, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Action requested
[edit]Hi Catherine. I've really appreciated what you've done for me before in the past, so I feel the need to alert you to the fact that the Image:DuranDuran UK PressKit 2003.jpg image has been threatened with deletion unless you can posit an argument as to why it is irreplacable. I'm sure it is, so I wanted you to know this so you could indicate on the image information page why it is that the image cannot be substituted with a "free use" one. Thanks and I'm funneling lots of positive vibes your way. (Krushsister 04:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC))
God bless you, Catherine!
[edit]Thanks to your assistance I was able to gather the five signatories minimally recommended before a proposed Wikiproject can become "live"! So if you go to Wikipedia:WikiProject New Wave music, you will see the actual Wikiproject page. You are SO, SO awesome! Next up (*laugh*) -- I need advice on where to stick information located on the "trivia" section on a main article's body. So sorry. You're the most helpful, awesome WikiExpert I know, so.... Owned picture of legislator; uncertain license, any ideas?
[edit]I received an award about a year ago from Dr. Alma Adams (American Legacy building in Washington DC), and have picture with her in them. I noticed that there isn't one of her. I can crop her out, but I'm not familiar with what, if any, copyright/licensing terms apply to this image. Any ideas? Should I post it, or is uploading it something illegal that I'd be blocked for? Yet again, Help please
[edit]I've been harassed by this User, and I wondered if you could either block him from editing my page, or even ban him if it seems necessary (but I suppose, I shouldn't be the one to make that decision). Here's the user: User talk:LatelMan, and he's also posted on my Talk Page (the last two sections). Thanks a lot. Jay 04:46, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Serious (Gwen Stefani song)
[edit]An editor has nominated Serious (Gwen Stefani song), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Serious (Gwen Stefani song) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit]It is great pity to lose the hard work on the Duran Duran discography page but I understand the reasoning behind this situation. I am so sorry that I put those images there but I thought that it would be more attractive. No worries, it is superfluous to have them there anyway.
I will help to take the images away but still keep the singles discography clean and tidy! I would really appreciate your help! Thank you for being so polite and gentle towards me, you don't get that often! God bless!! DuranDuran 15:37, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I didn't realize that you owned "Duran Duran Time Line" website. I often go there and congratulation on a fantastic website! Have you by any chance met Duran Duran or a member of the band? I have been a great fan since the age of six and collect every album and collectors item that I can possibly find. CHIC to Chic?
[edit]Hi Catherine.
I'm having a dispute with the user Cyrus XIII regarding the spelling of the band CHIC. As you know I have been working on the CHIC (band) page. Until a couple of days ago the CHIC (band) page have been spellt CHIC with all capitals, now the user Cyrus XIII have taken it upon himself to change that. Although the band, the fans and the graphical history of the band clearly all point to the fact that CHIC should be spellt with all capitals. I was wondering if you can help me in dealing with this issue with Cyrus XIII.
Cyrus wrote this on my talk page:
"Have you read the guidelines (Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) & Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters)#All caps) I gave in my edit summaries regarding the edits you are referring to? Comparisons with ABBA and MCI are invalid, as these are acronyms, which are fully capitalized in standard English. Please refrain from engaging in an edit war over this. The guidelines are clear there are numerous precedents for band names which have been subjected to them (i.e. Kiss and Matchbox Twenty) and - forgive me for pointing that out - your username does suggest a certain bias towards the subject at hand, which might lead to WP:NPOV related concerns."
I dont know if he has the unilateral right to interpret the rules regarding names and I therefore are engaging in a pointless effort? But as long as this is unclear I would like some assistance regarding this matter.

User advice
[edit]Yesterday I tried to create a user account for myself. All appeared successful. I even got sent a confirmation email. Then when I tried to log in, I got an error message that the password was incorrect. When I tried to have the system email me the password it gave me an error saying it had already emailed me in the past 24 hours and wouldn't do it again. So I waited a day, and now when I try to get the system to email me it tells me there's no email associated with the username.
The username I registered was Hithrome, and now not only can I not log in, I can't get the system to repair it. Is there anything you can do? Please email me at jcr1 (at) cox (dot) net.
Hi again
[edit]Hi Catherine
I was wondering why you are removing the confirmed and romoured tracks as NRunner, T Mental, Zooming In, S Divers and 48 HL has been confirmed by billboard.

Duran Duran
[edit]Hi
Thanks for getting back. I understand the situation and will no longer add superfluous info to the pages. Who on Wikipedia actually added the title "The Music Between Us"? There are romours (again) saying it was me but in fact someone with no members name kept adding this title. I added the title "Gloss!" not TMBU! Do you know anything about this? I should not have a false reputation.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:LID_logo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:LID_logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Coredesat 01:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikia denied
[edit]Catherine, not sure this is the forum for an attempted dialog for the rejection of my Wikia idea, but I did want to attempt to discuss. The reason for the rejection was that the content was more appropriately a sub category of a larger Wiki, "Computing". (http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/Enterprise_Software_Companies_and_History)
Is the intent at Wikia to have VERY few top Wikis, and all other topics to just come underneath? If that is the case, it would not be hard to generalize everything under a very few topics and force the user to drill down six or seven layers to get where they want to go. I cannot see how it makes sense to put the history of software companies in the same drawer as electronic components.
When I look at the many, many Wikis that are out there, I see plenty the could be rolled up into broader categories. Many of them with less content than I am bringing and will continue to contribute to. There is already a community out there, passionate, who will jump in. I am not as confident that the sub-wiki category of computing->software->types of software->applications->ERP->ERP Software Companies and History is going to be a very compelling place for people to seek out. I believe it will hurt the chances of growing this community. (Especially when I look at the content on the pages on the way down through that path).
Perhaps Wikia isn't the right vehicle for putting this community together. I'll be disappointed if that's the case. The experience thus far, has really pulled me in.
Thank you for your time.

Illegal Blocking on the Wikia
[edit]Excused me. Have you blocked Assaulthead from all Wikias? Thats just mean. You blocked Assaulthead from doing his regular daily activity on the CNC Wiki being a good boy. You also blocked him without even putting block log on the Wikia Block log section nor any section. He did not vandalized anything and he just want to talk to someone on the talk page not vandalized it and stop ignoring me. He wanted to edit things in the Command and Conquer Wikia. You did not show a block log about me on anything nor any Wikia. Thats illegal. You also did accused him of doing things that he don't remember nor did and targeted his IP Address illegally. Your not fit to be an administrator for anything in fact I should replaced you for being a criminal who hacked into everything and disable the users ability to edit even the Wikipedia.(TougHHead 01:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC))

[edit]Hi!
Unbelievable! What you've written mirrors what I believe almost perfectly! I fully agree with you - Worth helping it along? I sure think so. I believe an article that came out a while back - this, captures some of the problems we face pretty accurately, but I'm sure as a community we'll all find a way.
Thank you for having that essay (?) on your userpage, its inspiring, encouraging, motivating, whatever it could be called.
Although I'm too pragmatic to call myself an idealist, the paradox of Wikipedia never ceases to amaze me. Its true, it shouldn't work in theory, only works in practise. Hopefully, we can all contribute in our own small way to improve something far greater than us individual editors put together.

Fair use rationale for Image:DuranDuran_HungryLikeTheWolf_Screenshot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DuranDuran_HungryLikeTheWolf_Screenshot.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 21:13, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Duran Duran article
[edit]Hi - Every time a FA goes to FFA I shed a tear, and reluctantly turn a shiny blue star to rust at WP:WBFAN. I noticed Duran Duran was fed to the wolves and has been (under kind of curious circumstances) summarily demoted. I also notice it's not yet on WP:FAC. If you nominate it and it passes FAC, not only will the original star turn to shiny blue again (which would please me) but you'll have two shiny blue stars. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hemorrhoid amendments
[edit]Hi Catherine,
I noticed your request for someone to clean up the hemorrhoid article. Although I have no "credentials" I have been researching the benefits of squatting for many years and have uncovered some research that has great relevance for prevention (and even cure) of hemorrhoids.
The article was a "mish-mash" of misinformation (as you put it) because conventional medicine hasn't a clue as the underlying cause of this disease. I hope you find my additions informative. You might be interested in other connections between toilet posture and other GI and pelvic diseases presented at my website http://www.NaturesPlatform.com . New Religion
[edit]Hi Catherine,
Can you create a New Religion page and some info about the song from your knowledge? And then I will add to it. I wish we could somehow mention how Duran Duran(main article) have always been considered good live, even by their critics.
Khanada
Thats a good point, but all the Beatles songs have their own page! I dont want to do pages for all Duran songs, my fav songs are "last chance on the stairway", "Khanada"(obvsly), and "El Diablo"etc and I dont want to create pages on them because I dont have much info on these tracks and they are not fan favs & played live etc.(Khanada 08:50, 28 July 2007 (UTC))
Khanada
I think Andy Taylor was the best musician in Duran Duran, he was right to leave over not wanting to work with Timberland. John and Roger together are better, they are a very underated and tight rythm section. Nick is more of a sound designer than a musician, although he is a genius songwriter and the best songwriter in the band. I never really liked Notorious & I dont want your love, then I saw those songs live and now I love them, how weird is that?(Khanada 12:54, 3 August 2007 (UTC))

- Communication and patience weren't the issue. Spamming was the issue. Spammers don't reform, because they don't understand that what they do is wrong. Good luck with keeping him under control.Kww 17:37, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Duran Duran in Marie Claire
[edit]Hey Catherine,
Just a little note to let you know that Duran Duran was featured on pages 109-110 of the latest issue of Marie Claire (November 2007). The article was very short, but it had some cute pictures that I thought you might like and they discuss their new album, Red Carpet Massacre. Hoping that life has been treating you very well, yours friendly, Willow 16:05, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
