Speedy deletion nomination of HelpIQ

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on HelpIQ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. MikeWazowski (talk) 23:35, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HelpIQ: Reply

[edit]

The page was deleted on the grounds that the article doesn't provide any reason why this company warrants encyclopedic coverage, that is, no reason to bother checking for reliable third-party coverage of the company. See our inclusion guidelines for companies. You say that we have articles on your competitors (which, by the way, is not the same thing as "your competitors have articles") but if your company is an upstart trying to build its clientele and your competitors are established enough, then I'm afraid Wikipedia is not the vehicle through which your upstart will catch up with the competition, in fact you must achieve that before Wikipedia coverage can be considered. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 17:51, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think that should be 'startup' rather than 'upstart'... Peridon (talk) 18:04, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your argument makes no sense. All the thousands and thousands of companies listed in Wikipedia are grandfathered in? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.198.61.137 (talk) 23:05, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. They have been the subject of reliable coverage in third-party sources before the Wikipedia articles on them were created. You're trying to do it the other way around. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 23:26, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Differences

[edit]

Author-it was created quite some time ago, and the policies have been tightened up since then. (Nevertheless, I've tagged it for being unreferenced.) The page was deleted because it was "about a web site, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. See CSD A7." Back in '04, the requirements would have been slacker - now it's the current versions of WP:CORP for companies, WP:WEB for web-based stuff, and WP:RS about reliable independent sources which applies to everything being posted now. Have a look at those policies, and then ask for advice if you need it. Do this by contacting me, or Panyd or any admin or regular editor - but do it on the talk page of the person concerned. If you don't care who, put {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page and then your question underneath, and sign it with ~~~~. (When you copy those things and use them, they'll work. I've put them in so they don't trigger here. It's either magic or technology...) The helpme thing will flag up in a category monitored by admins and regulars, and someone will be along soon. The talkpage of the article isn't the place, as loose talkpages get deleted. Peridon (talk) 18:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
