Question

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for the work you've done on the article Battle of Drakenburg. I wrote most of the information about the Augsburg Interim and the Schmalkaldic League. From what I've read, the Augsburg Interim was forced onto the Protestants by Charles V, who, having won the Schmalkaldic War, was in control but nevertheless tired of war. If this is true, did the battle, a protestant victory, have any real significance in the course of German history (I can't find anything on google books about this battle, which makes this hard)? Did they have more political control after the battle had been fought or were they still afraid of the Catholic emperor as the article "Augsburg Interim" suggests? HHermans 21:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article about that battle was just a translation from the German article. I can't tell you anything but what the German article says. The only really politically significant long-term consequences of the battle was that it "contributed to the stability and freedom of religion in northern Germany" as the article states. Sorry I can't really help you on this one.--Carabinieri 22:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Carabinieri. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:FAUD Congress.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Carabinieri/Sandbox. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 03:35, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Eurocoplogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eurocoplogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 20:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Eurocoplogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eurocoplogo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 20:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Bavaria Party.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bavaria Party.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Nick 20:18, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:The Terror State.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:The Terror State.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read your article and stub about meir vilner and esther vilenska. Im curious what motivated you to write about these two obscure figures?

I don't remember exactly what it was. I've always found Vilner an interesting figure and I must've seen a redlink to him or something, so I wrote that article using the obituary in the Guardian. After I was done, I thought Vilenska would be worth an article as well, so I wrote that short stub.--Carabinieri 15:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Hello. I think that Papyrus 45 was made it onto the DYK template and onto the main page. I did not actually see it there, but I did see it on the next update template, so I assume that it later made it. But now, it seems to have disappeared out of the DYK system. It's not in the archive, nor was it returned to the DYK suggestions page. Also, I don't think that the guy who wrote it (who isn't me) got a notification on his talk page for it, and the article's talk page doesn't have a DYK notification. I don't know if all of the other articles that were also on the template at the time have this problem or not. Could you check on this for me? Thanks! SU Linguist 15:57, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've looked through the page histories of the suggestions, next update, and template pages to track the hook down. It turns out User:Wizardman updated DYK on June 24, but did not notify the article creators and nominators, note the use of the article on the main page, and archive the hooks. I've now done all that and left a note on Wizardman's talk page. Thanks for the heads up. --Carabinieri 16:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I didn't have time at that point to do the rest of it, I probably should have made a note of it. Sorry if I caused some problems. Wizardman 16:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Oak Park Il Woolley House2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oak Park Il Woolley House2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:09, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Bademus

[edit]

Thanks for your concerns concerning Bademus's referencing conventions. I have replied to the issue, and have made what I believe to be the appropriate corrections. On another topic, however, I wanted to point out that the way this issue was handled rankles me a bit. First of all, although I am aware that Wikipedia does not have a template for everything, I thought the Unreferenced template was not suitable for an article wherein sources were referenced, albeit not in the clearest manner. And secondly, I would appreciate it, and I'm sure others would as well if they have DYK nominations up for consideration, that if you find something unsatisfactory about an article in the future, that you notify the creator/nominator of that issue via talk page. I'm currently on vacation (see User:Alekjds), so I can only pop in during free time, and I am not assiduously patrolling my watchlist. IvoShandor's warning of the issue earlier today was a great service to me, as I was able to put things straight, although only after the article's nomination expired. An expedient warning is the sort of couresy I would expect from an admin. Forgive me if it's only out of ignorance of your workload that I make this complaint. Respectfully submitted, Alekjds talk 20:14, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I notified everyone, whose DYK suggestions I comment on, on their respective talk pages, that would really be a lot of work. So unfortunately this is not possible. The DYK suggestions page does recommend that nominators "Please check back for comments on your nomination. Responding to reasonable objections will help ensure that your article is listed." As to the use of the template: I assumed the template would only be there for a very short time (until you referenced the source correctly). I also misunderstood what you meant by "various sources". I thought that you had various websites, books, newspaper articles, etc, that you just didn't want to list in the footnote, which would be completely contrary to WP:V. Therefore I just slapped that template on the article, in order to animate the creator to change the article to conform with WP policy and in order to prevent the DYK hook from being used until the issue is cleared up. Thanks for helping DYK.--Carabinieri 22:51, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
