Isfahan International Airport

Thanks for adding the infobox to Isfahan International Airport back in July. After MikeHunt35 subsequently shortened one runway length by ten feet (and that edit was questioned), I checked the details at the World Aero Data linked in the article, which confirmed the shorter length for both runways -- so it's possible someone had rounded 4,397 meters to an even 4,400 meters, overstating the length. The elevation was also slightly different. I've edited the infobox to use the World Aero Data figures, on the theory that no pilot will crash if the runway's longer than he expects, but even just ten feet shorter might be a problem. Since I don't know what source you used originally, may I ask you to doublecheck it, and possibly find a third source for additional support of one or the other set of figures? Please feel free to undo my changes and MikeHunt35's if it turns out your first source was right and World Aero Data was wrong. I won't edit-war with you; I'd just like to be sure we've got either the solidly determined figures or else the safer (more conservative) ones in the article. Thanks! Changes to categories I added

Hello. I reviewed some of my contributions from yesterday and I noticed that you removed some of the categories I placed. I've been working in the Arctic Ocean area, primarily categorizing and adding a few geographic details to articles (when they are missing some very obvious facts only). Most of the ones you removed were related to Baffin Island. I'm thinking that you might have some wisdom to share with me, and I'm open to your feedback about how I can categorize better. Re: Ulcinj Airport

Thanks for protecting my edit. While new to WP, I like to clean up vandalism as well, and note that you seem to have a knack for finding it. How do you do that? As well, would I be correct in assuming that after a given amount of time, uncited info from the Nancy Reagan article should be deleted? I have already purged a Header in the talk section about Lawford's third-hand account of nancy davis' pre-Ronnie rep. Not a very reliable source, and keeping it in Talk allowed for the rumor to sink in peripherally. I don't like Nancy Reagan, and her husband and his policies even less, but everyone deserves a fair shake (except maybe for Karl Rove, and the Smurfs - god they creep me out).Arcayne 23:31, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Ghost Online

Seriously, it doesn't say anything after reading the guidelines about Fan Sites, so I added them, most other MMORPG pages have them as well, is there really a problem with it? You call it advertising, but these websites all have much more information than the official site, and on top of this, they also serve as forums for those who play to engage in seeing as there is no official forum, for mGO atleast, which is the most popular version as it is english.

The global version should also be taken down as a link, seeing as it isn't out, or atleast something put there.

Unless you plan on adding all the information that these sites have readily available to Wikipedia, than I suggest it easier to simply leave the sites up. Pyrofyr 21:34, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Now, I am also a professional dark fiction writer, as well as a professional freelance editor, and I am a colleague and friend of Ms. Adkins. I assure you, not one of the publications Ms. Adkins has been published in has been a vanity press! All have been legitimate, paying small press publications. I can certainly put you in contact with the editors of said publications to prove this! Also, Aegri Somnia, the recent horror anthology Ms. Adkins appeared in with her story "Well of the Waters", has made the preliminary ballot for the Horror Writers Association Stoker Awards. Not a nomination as of yet, no, but it still shows she is, indeed, a respected professional.

Ms. Adkins also edits full time for Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest, which is a legitimate, small press, semi-pro paying magazine.

I would like to know what I, and my fellow colleagues of Ms. Adkins, must do to have her Wikipedia entry restored. Since she is most undoubtedly a Professional Author and Editor, not vanity published in the least, I believe she has every right to have a valid entry in Wikipedia. Thank you, and good day.

10. Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace), discussion forums or USENET

If you actually paid attention to the links I had sent, instead of just deleting them, you'd realize that they are there because they are fansites that have databases of information, not because they are discussion forums. Only 2 of those sites are really up to date, however I added the rest as they were there and removed by someone who was removing them simply to remove one, and didn't want to go through the hassle of just omitting one (I talked to him, that's the reason he gave).

There's nothing against fansites, however there is against discussion forums, GhostSource and Ghost-Land both have information, a lot more than the main websites, therefore I had posted those 2, the rest simply because they were posted before and most of them had information plenty.

If you think it to be spam fine, however it is posted for informational purposes, since there is a lack of it both here and elsewhere. I'm not too familiar with the Wikipedia syntax, and care not to be at the moment, so I'm not going to bother to list a whole bunch of information here, and it seems that you don't plan on it. So is there a problem with external links to fan sites? No. Infact, of you lookat MapleStory, there are links to many fansites that are simply forums, and just that, forums. East Midlands Airport

As stated on the article talk page, the citation does not prove that the name is in general use or that it is an official name. All it does prove is that one organisation hasn't bothered to change it's naming yet. Did you know after the Airport changed from East Midland to Nottingham East Midland almost every European airport still listed it as Eas Midlands. Prod removals

I readded the prod on Kirby Cundif. It was origionally removed by an unregistered user with nothing added to the discussion page. The article is autobiographical and appears to be nothing but a vanity page. I've done a bit of searching and can find little the subjects done to merit inclusion in an encyclopedia. While I agree that once a prod's been legitimatly removed it shouldn't be readded, I belive the removal in this case was merely vandalism.--Lepeu1999 01:04, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Gentlemen...Thank you for your responses. The central issue is this: You are wildly inconsistent with your editorial standards. You both have looked at hundreds of Wikipedia pages, and you did not take down External Links that do not follow the editorial guidelines. However, when a new person comes along with External Links, you take them down immediately. Obviously, your standard is not 'following editorial guidelines' but 'who can I bully off of Wikipedia.' This is proven by the fact that you have some alert that comes up when a new External Link is placed onto the site, and then you immediately take it down. But, on that same page, you leave up External Links that do not follow the guidelines. Then, to top it off, you preach editorial guidelines -- the same ones you do not follow. So, you both hit the trifecta: You are amateur editors, hypocrites and bullies -- all at the same time.

Please answer this: Why do you take off new External Links that do not follow your editorial guidelines, and -- on the same page -- leave up links that also do not follow your guidelines? You should read "Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators" and "Wikipedia:Deletion policy." Of course, a responsible administrator follows these guidelines and policies. I believe you did not follow key parts of the guidelines and policies when you deleted 'The Jack Benny Audio History' External Link immediately after you saw it. Time zone

In response to your message to 208.127.71.78:

Help:Wikitext examples says that some editors prefer shorter lines, as it makes diffs easier to read.

I had observed that the daylight saving time diffs are getting pretty outlandish. For example, Daylight saving time diff of 2007-02-10 08:05 is so wide that I can't easily display it on my non-superwide screen. That is why I made the change that you reverted. Sorry about breaking the links, of course. I had noticed the same problem and was about to fix it just as you were undoing the change.

If this isn't the right way to do things, can you please suggest a better way to make diffs easier to read?

Time zone, take 2

Following up again on the problem with seeing time zone diffs like Revision as of 20:35, 9 February 2007, I have a 1900x1200 monitor and that diff is way too wide to fit on my screen. I can see only the left-hand column of the diff, and a tiny bit of the right-hand column. It's pretty extreme, huh? I am using Mozilla 1.7 for Solaris 10, if that matters, but I don't think it does; I recall seeing similar problems with recent Firefox on Debian.

I see it in a lot of diffs for the daylight saving page. I don't look at a lot of diffs elsewhere so I don't have much experience with that.

I tried removing <code> as you suggested, and that seemed to fix the problem. Perhaps we should reword the <code> stuff? Actually, all that Windows/Posix/Java stuff should be in a separate web page anyway, as it's sort of taking over what should be a relatively mundane discussion of DST. (But this is a different issue, I guess.)

I can confirm seeing the same problem with too-wide diff listings with Firefox 1.0.4 on a 1600x1200 monitor using Linux 2.4.27. So the problem is not just that particular Solaris browser.

I dunno, if the message is "Don't use Firefox, don't use Mozilla" then there's something wrong here. Those are the only browsers shipped with Solaris as far as I know. Opera is available from a 3rd party but it is not free software. I guess I'll just limp along without being able to read Wikipedia diffs worth beans, which is unfortunate.

CLJ Airport

Hi, I have 2 comments regarding your recent edits on the Cluj-Napoca International Airport article:

• In the airportframe: why do you insist in putting a reference in there, soon after the airport's nativename? I think it's best if you put the reference somewhere else in the body of the article, as if it's in the frame, it adds an extra line to the frame.
• I understand your concern about the fact that in the AIP the runway for CLJ is still listed as 1850m. The reality though, is that the runway was already extended to 2100m and you've also found a PDF file saying that. I don't think that Wikipedia needs to match the AIP data exactly, especially when this data is not correct. I would therefore put the correct length in the article, but I'll wait for your reply first. Alexrap 17:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

As an update, their 737's appear to be getting some spectacular artwork on their tails: FACP - Northern Lights GCPT - Inukshuk FNVT - Snowy Owl --

You continue to remove fleet updates that I post to the First Air entry, most recently changing the number of ATR42 from 7 to 6, and the B737C total from 4 to 3. I explained in the comments that the First Air website is very slow in updating the totals, and asked you to check the Transport Canada website if you required confirmation.

type in "bradley air services" (corporate name of the company operating under the trade name of First Air) as the owner name and you will come up with the complete list of aircraft registered.

You are correct, this will show a total of 24 aircraft, not the 20 that I listed on the wikipedia site. Two HS748's (CGDUL and CGGNZ) are parked at CYRP after being essentially stripped of anything sellable or useable on the remaining three. This is where CGMOC (a DC-3) has remained for close to 20 years since it has retired, I am not sure why First Air keeps this registration current. One of the B727-200 freighters, CGYFA, is in need of a C check and has been parked in a semiretirement state at the Ottawa Airport for the past two years.

The active ATR-42 are CFTJB, CFTCP, CFIQR, CFIQU, CGHCP, CGSRR, and CGULU. CGULU appears to the one you are disputing, as it was added December 6 of 2006. This should be easy for you, as that particular aircraft has visited your airport a number of times. Its the one with the all white paint job and a muskox on the tail. I saw it in the hangar last night.

The active B737C are CFNVK, CFNVT, CGNDC, and CGNWN. CFNVK is the newest addition, this may be more difficult for you to believe as it is YOW based and although gravel kit equiped, not likely to pay your home a visit.

Are you suggesting that the Transport Canada website has been hacked? Why do you continue to vandalize the First Air wikipedia entry? If your sole source is the First Air website, why bother with wikipedia at all? I did check the TC site before making the change and I did know about the trade name being "bradley air services". So then lets use the TC site to reference the fleet size in the article. All 24 aircraft will now have to be listed. Do you have any references to say that some aircraft are not operational? If you do then that can be in the article as well, otherwise it's just original reasearch and can't be included. By the way if you go to here and then to here and enter GMOC in the "mark" box you can see that it's a BE20 and not a DC3. It was owned by Bradley from Ptarmigan and is now owned by Alkan Air. You were thinking of FMOC.

Now I see that using the http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/activepages/ccarcs/aspscripts/en/quicksearch.asp and using the "mark" to search for each aircraft will allow some additional infromation to be added to the article. For example searching for FMOC will allow the article to say that the registration was cancelled.

I now found that this stays static and does not need the entry to search for and makes a much better reference.

The only change I have made is to put the DC3 in a separate section. I left the AT43's in as you put them as I agree with you but the pictures as such don't really prove anything. As an example of that got to her and look at GBIY. The float got broken in 1999 and a case could be made that it is u/s but the aircraft is still certified here. Cheers. Order of Canda medal of service

Hi,

In 1967 when the Order of Canada was created it had two components : the rank of Companion, and the medal of service. In 1972 the Order was altered so that anyone who had been given the medal of service was changed to the rank of office. At this time most of the medals were exchanged for the officers badge and the rank of medal of service no longer existed. She was later upgraded to Companion. Eskimo words for snow

Ouch! I am really sorry. I didn't check the source enough, just the title and the first column (which contains the fake "Inuit words"). Add to it that I am not a native speaker of English and we have a problem.

I added that link to the article when I was a bit sleepy. When I read from you that the list is a joke, I entered that webpage to check and I was amazed of my silly flaw. List of cities with the most billionaires

Hi. Not a complaint!

You deleted the above article about a week ago after it was prodded by an anonymous IP. I only discovered it after the same user deleted a wikilink to it from Lists of billionaires on February 19. As you can see from Special:Contributions/156.80.45.138, almost all his contributions have been to prod various billionaire-related pages. I came across this after a (related?) IP account (209.22.88.24) voted to delete the entire Category:Lists of people by wealth yesterday, on the basis that "[it] is bloated with mainly copies of copyrighted material from Forbes magazine". Since the source is cited in every categorised article I could find, I can only assume that the user(s) do not understand the principles behind references/citing sources, or the specifics of WP:COPYVIO.

I was wondering if it would therefore be possible to contest the prod/deletion of List of cities with the most billionaires "retrospectively"? I can't testify that it's definitely worthy of being restored, but I have suspicions. Also, if possible, could you check if any other related pages were similarly deleted before I was able to deprod them? Anti punk rock sources

As i have discussed (as subsiquently had the writing deleted) only secondary sources, or 'further public opinions' source in favour of the pop punk argument.

No primary source states they are pop punk (because hey, lets face it, they are not).

Now, ignoring what i just said and looking back to what you sent me, saying "there are sources for both sides" dont you think it should be mentioned in the article? at the moment it would have you believe that blink 182 are not punk rock. I think a line such as "Blink 182 define themselves as a Punk Rock band, however many people seek to further define their genre by labeling them as "pop punk""

Also, maybe incorperating their clear change in genre as they progress chronologically. At the beginning they play solid punk rock, even with covers of punk rock bands. Enema of the state and toypaj sounding pop punk (two of their successful albums, this is why people seem to think they are "pop punk") and their final and most successful album being alternative rock, and not punk at all.

Overall, cambridge, the article is wrong, and it cannot stay the same. However i need support as I am coming across some of the most stubborn and arrogant wikipedians i have ever met during the course of this required revision

Hi. My problem is that the reference doesn't say that most Inuit find "Eskimo" highly offensive—just that it's considered derogatory in many other places, which is not the same thing. The most your two other sources say is that it's widely thought to be "rather insulting". None of the sources are very clear at all on whether they're talking about the preference of Inuit people specifically, or Canadians generally. It may be that Inuit people do dislike the word Eskimo intensely, but I have a suspicion that this might be more an assumption based on false etymology. (As in: "Well, I wouldn't like to be called an eater of raw meat!") As a Welshman, I have nothing particularly against possibly derogatory exonyms as such! I see your point. I think one of the problems here is that, in Canada at least, it's one of those obvious things that no longer needs defining, like "fire is hot and water is wet". A few other links, Random House, the dictionary maker, says to avoid the term but not really why. Native Languages mentions that it is "...is considered rude by many Inuit." MSN Encarta says some find it offensive as does the Information Centre on Aboriginal Health.

Most of the rest of this is original research. Basically everybody east of here will find the word Eskimo offensive to varing degrees. From here west the word can sometimes be used but genereally it's safer to use Inuit. Part of this has to do with a disagreement over the meaning of "Inuit" and "Inuk". They are used mostly to mean "The People" or "The Real People" and "Person" and this can only be used to refer to people that used to be called Eskimo. However, the people of the area where I live (Copper Eskimo/Inuit) call themselves "Inuinnait" (plural) or "Inuinnaq" (singular). This is defined by my dictionary as "a real Inuk; an Eskimo person". The dictionary further defines "inuit" and "inuk" (note they are not capitalised) as "person; human being", in other words everybody in the world qualifies. So in Iqaluit I would never be an Inuit but in Cambridge Bay I am an inuit.

By the way do you think there might be an article in the Kitikmeot Heritage Society? They have a museum and do some interesting work. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

We've got to be very careful of the "everyone knows" argument for inclusion. When I was growing up, I thought everyone knew that native Americans hated being called Indians and preferred Native Americans. I then learnt that some dislike Native American because they find it patronising (or that it imposes the name American on a culture that is older than the name) and that quite a lot prefer Indian. In any case, Wikipedia is strict about original research. I don't think we can keep the claim that most Inuit find the term Eskimo highly offensive until we get a source that says just that.

Uncat-bot-tagging

Not readily, I'm afraid. But it's certainly a very real issue. The changes that have been mooted about forcing category inclusion on 'new' articles might have the beneficial side-effect of cutting down on category vandalism/cluelessness, too. (I've seen even experienced editors remove categories and category-populating templates, for no evident reason at all.) At one point I was tagging articles that had had a category in an earlier db dump with a different tag, {{prevcat}}. But in practice that was more trouble than it was worth, as people had lengthy lists of what they felt to be "false positives". So instead, I've been listing them separately, at pages like this. Is that similar to what you had in mind? (I should also do this for the more recent dump, but there's still a huge backlog at the earlier one.) However, I can only do that for pages uncategorised in a db dump (and categorised in a previous one), as opposed to ones found to be uncategorised by other means. For that, the bot would have to search the whole edit history of the live page, which it's not currently set up to do, and also might require a large number of page-gets. I saw that you removed information and links for "Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon," including links to reviews and scholarly discussion. The information you removed was all carefully documented, footnoted, and verifiable. Some of it appears on other Wikipedia pages that touch on the same topic. This is especially true about the book's publishing history in Latin America. Therefore, I restored the information. If you feel it is necessary to delete the information, you should explain why. For example, the title, "Nowhere Man" is a reference to Lennon's killer. (This is obvious if you read the book.) I thought the purpose of Wikipedia was for people familiar with a particular topic to add verifiable information and links to other sources, not to take it away. I added the info in the first place because the page is incomplete, and barely scratches the surface. It even says on the page, "You can help Wikipedia by expanding it." It appears that I misunderstood your intentions behind the "just because" edit summary, so no hard feelings for that, we're good. And maybe I should explain that sometimes/commonly thing better to you, which I'd like to do here, given the current climate of the article's talk page. The thing is, after a band reaches a certain critical mass in terms of popularity and subsequent notability (which the band we're discussing certainly has), there will be such a vast amount of media published on it, that official (band/label-driven) and fan-made publications are unlikely to remain in the majority. So, the geographical ordering is in the majority by a margin of three to one, hence why I say the convention is to use geogarphical ordering. I'm not saying that allpabetical should never be used (I think data tables like {{Largest and smallest census divisions of Canada}} should be alphabetical)... just that for general navigation boxes, geographical is the convention.

Now, you feel it is confusing for non-Canadians. I'm not Canadian, and I've never found it confusing (though you could point out I have an unusual degree of interest in Canada... I can even spell Saskatchewan reliably). However, I assume you mean that it could confusing for someone who knew nothing about Canada - possibly true, but once you've seen a map of provinces, it's a very obvious and intuitive way of listing them. The widespread use of {{Canada provinces map}} reinforces this.

"Superstars"

HI. You erased twice an entry on "superstars" being also the title of a french famous novel. If you have a good reason to do so, which I'm sure you have otherwise you wouldn't take that liberty, you should give that reason. If you had given it the first time, I would have noticed it and not posted the entry a second time. So I would like to know that reason, and if this entry doesn't belong on this page, perhaps you could tell me how to create another page for that entry. Thank you. Olaf750

General Hopsital Pages I Added

My name is Alicia Michelle Harris. I am 21. I am a BIG fan of General Hospital. I am trying to put up couples in GENERAL HOSPITAL's main page.

I am writing because i found that almost all the pages i'd written for couples was taken down. I don't know why you saw it fit to take down everything because I changed alot. If you'd written to aske me to i would have re-written the pages, but instead you erased everything in one swoop.

This is the list of sites you took down:

Lucky Spencer and Elizabeth Webber - If you read the link you put on it : http://www.geocities.com/ll2junkies/background.html you'd see i didn't take anything really, I changed alot!

Dillon and Georgie - I remember changing alot and if people cant use the Website as info then how would anyone write on here?

Jason and Sam - I never went on that site. the JASAM story was on like 10 sites. Doesn't this make it free for all?

Spinelli and Lulu - DAILY UPDATES are from all GH sites and BTW. So why can't these stay? I changed them up. ALOT! and even if one section was disapproving why erase the couple? I was on many sites for SpinLu stuff. Soaps.com, GHH2, GHtheSOAP.com, ABC.COM, ect.

Jax and Brenda - OKAY I WAS ON THAT SIGHT BUT NOT ONE THING WAS word for word!

Sonny and Brenda- SAME AS ABOVE!!! ...NOT ONE THING WAS word for word!

Lucky and Elizabeth Quotes - THE PAGE IS A QUOTE PAGE, an addendum to L&E page so its not cluttered. THE speech 8+ years ago is protected so much? Besides i get its not enclyopedic, but the only people going there are from the Lucky Spencer and Elizabeth Webber page. PLEASE put them back!!!!

For example, remember not everyone is as computer literate as you; some people will accidentally blank or damage pages when attempting to cut and paste material from Wikipedia. Others may not understand that, yes, their changes really are visible to the entire world.

If public = open, why not use the word open? It would seem to be less ambiguous. To my mind, public means used for airtransport by all and sundry. User:Jmcc150
