Zero-knowledge proofs

[edit]

Hi, Cal-linux. I replied to your comment here: Talk:Zero-knowledge_proof#More_on_this_example_of_the_Cave

My explanation is basically "abilities count as knowledge", so if Victor gains the ability to convince other people that Peggy knows the magic word, then that's mathematically the same thing as Victor's gaining some sort of knowledge, even if it's intuitively hard to quantify. If you want to talk about it more, let's do it there, or here, or on my talk page; but please ping my talk page when you reply, because I'm terrible at checking for responses. :) —Quuxplusone (talk) 23:51, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ping. Also, I shouldn't have tried to summarize my explanation here, because it changed slightly after I summarized it. :) Forget "abilities count as knowledge", and just focus on Victor's ability or inability to counterfeit the videotape. In the ZKP protocol, Victor can easily counterfeit a tape with the same contents; in the non-ZKP "enter left, exit right" protocol, Victor cannot counterfeit the tape. --Quuxplusone (talk) 18:52, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
