User talk:Cabiria
Welcome!
[edit]Hi Cabiria, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!
- Editing tutorial, learn to have fun with Wikipedia.
- Picture tutorial, instructions on uploading images.
- How to write a great article, to make it an featured article status.
- Manual of Style, how articles should be written.
Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :
Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Ive noticed this is coming under heavy attack, should we just protect it so only registered users can edit it? °≈§→Robo°_°maeyhem←§≈° 08:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, if you are able to, I think that's a good notion! (Although I'm thinking (hoping!) they'll soon get bored) Cabiria 08:56, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok ill do that right now °≈§→Robo°_°maeyhem←§≈° 08:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
No Problem :) °≈§→Robo°_°maeyhem←§≈° 09:12, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
By the way... Keep an eye on your Userpage, One of them just vandalized mine °≈§→Robo°_°maeyhem←§≈° 09:16, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
you earned a cookie!
[edit]Thanks for living up my Userpage with your contributions to my little excercise in trivia. Since your Userpage mentions your interest in spelling, I have a sinking feeling as to why you might have noticed me; I'm notorious for typing faster than I can spell :) Happy editing - Doc Tropics 05:29, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Re: Thanks so much
[edit]No problem, To learn how to revert peoples edits, go to WP:VAN. °≈§→ Robomaeyhem: T/←§≈° 06:47, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

recent vandalism
[edit]I had your page watchlisted from our last exchange and I've noticed the problems you have with a persistent vandal. I certainly understand your frustration, but I tend to regard that kind of thing as a sign that you've done something right. Regardless of the vandal's physical age, you're clearly dealing with an intellectual juvenile; I'm hoping you won't give in to those absurd demands for an apology. I'll keep watching the numbers rise on your Vandalism Counter, but please let me know if I can assist you in any way. --Doc Tropics 17:35, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
crossposted
[edit]Thanks so much for the encouragement- I've been rethinking my whole foray into the recent change patrol due to one bonehead (and I'm not even sure how I made them upset). I thought it would be a good way for me to get more accustomed to the whole Wikipedia interface, but it's also given me a whole heck of a lot of trouble. Knowing there is support out there is quite comforting! Ta! --Cabiria 01:05, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have the greatest respect for RC Patrollers and Anti-Vandals, but I know I couldn't do it on an everyday basis. No matter how well intentioned you are, those activites seem to inherently involve a lot of negative interactions. I have a lot more fun working on articles and telling people when they've done a good job. For example - CaptainVindaloo and I recently did some good work together expanding a stub into a decent little article. And if you can't figure out what his name refers to, you should take the "Discworld" userbox off your Mainpage :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 22:02, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
sprotection of your userpage
[edit]Hey there. I responded to a request to sprotect your userpage against vandalism. I sprotected the page. I hope you don't mind. If you do, drop me a line and I can unprotect the page against vandalism. Thank you. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of YOUR OPINIONS 18:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- You have NO idea how happy you have made me! :) Thanks for the sprotect. Somehow I made one bonehead mad, and they decided to torture me for it. Pity I don't even know what I did! :) Thanks again! --Cabiria 01:08, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
ASUE
[edit]In light of your edits to Prufrock Preparatory School and Count Olaf, I hope you will consider taking SuggestBot's advice to edit articles concerning A Series of Unfortunate Events. The final book in the series was published on October 13th, and young fans are, predictably, bombarding Wikipedia with well intentioned (and utterly inept) edits to those pages. We need all the help we can get.
Oh, and by the way....

Underscores in wikilinks
[edit]You added underscores in your wikilinks. Please be aware that underscores need not and should not be used. [[Groningen (city)]] gives exactly the same result as [[Groningen_(city)]], and the first, without underscore, is Wikipedia's policy. Please keep this in mind when changing any other wikilinks. --Rabbeinu 00:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, thanks! I didn't think it mattered, as the wikilink worked correctly with the underscore, and that's how it was presented in the address bar. My apologies. :) Where is this policy listed so I can make sure I'm doing the other stuff correctly as well? Thanks! --Cabiria 04:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, the policy things are so incredibly difficult to find. It's just common sense. Another good guideline is that a wikilink should be made only for the first occurence of a word in the article. Thus, for example, the page about the Israeli-Arab conflict should, according to policy, include only 1 link to 'Israel'. Of course, in very long articles, a few more can be used. Thanks for your understanding! --Rabbeinu 10:53, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]Hi there; yes, it will be possible to re-create Julien Doré in the event of his winning. While it is true to say that is some flexibility in decisions on notability, it is accepted that a winner of a notable competition is thereby notable while losers are usually not. Happy wikying.--Anthony.bradbury 18:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Removal of category from your userpage
[edit]Hi. In enacting consensus from User categories for discussion, I have removed the category Category:Wikipedians interested in books from your userpage. It was determined in that deletion debate that this category should be depopulated of individuals, but kept as a parent category. If you wish to display a category reflecting your interest in books, please consider one of the specific sub-categories under its umbrella. Thanks, and please excuse the necessary editing of your user page! ----Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:44, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

- Cabiria's answered in edit 268168120
- The problem is that I don't know. It could be Groningen (city), all/some of the Ommelanden, or a combination of both city and Ommelanden. Only for the last possibility Groningen (province) would be appropiate, though still an anachronism. To complicate matters the city had far more influence in the area that would later become the province, than present-day cities have; for example nl:Geschiedenis van Groningen isn't split into 2 articles (one about the history of the city, one for the province). If there is a policy to always disambiguate, that policy is wrong IMNSHO.
- It was an understandable edit, but it also was unhelpful. Without the disambiguation, someone reading the article would get less information, but the added information was unverified (and quite possibly false, as far as I can tell). Erik Warmelink (talk) 17:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
[edit]I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:05, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
