Welcome from Redwolf24

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Vandalism

    • Hellow CLW,

I have reverted your user page to an earlier version of it. Some anonymous user had disfigured the page.MANOJTV 07:56, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CLM,

Sorry, was probably a bit rash to change it straight off - should have just put a comment on its talk page or something?! With the information it had, the page seemed redundant, and I'm not convinced categorising it is enough justification. However, I won't complain if you revert, and my opinion may even differ to Wikipedia convention. Perhaps you could stick some more, unique, info on - stuff not directly relevant to the Mel and Kim page? Thanks for getting in touch, and being polite about it! Great to have you on (the Swedish Wikipedians' notice) board! And great to see you contributing a bunch of much-needed translations. It's fantastic too see those red links turn blue. Keep up the good work! / Alarm 12:10, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's wonderful. I've updated the to-do list for now, substituting the names you've added with new ones. / Alarm 12:19, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you're still at work... I just wanted to tell you that when looking up the new article, I accidentally found an existing one at Wilhelm Peterson Berger which I hadn't previously noticed. But your translation work was certainly not in vain - the article was so lacking, and in such a poor condition (basically just a collection of someone's personal opinions), that I'm convinced it was better to start from scratch. Since I found no relevant info to merge, I decided to just redirect it to the new one with the correct spelling, but you can go back and check the history if you like. (The link will redirect you to the new article, but just click the (Redirected from Wilhelm Peterson Berger) when you get there and you'll end up on the redirect page.) / Alarm 15:45, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How ... odd. Thanks.  :) Zoe 23:17, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

I have rewritten the article so that it refers to the discipline of historical musicology. I would be grateful if you could have a look and see what you think. Capitalistroadster 05:24, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I agree, it was the only (at least semi relevant) image I could find. Appreciate if you (or someone else) would find a better one. If another, better picture, can't be found I guess I can live with no image at all. --Tsaddik Dervish 11:34, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's perfectly allright. For some reason I just like "publically", but you’re right that "publicly" should, most likely, be used since it's more common. I guess I let my pride get in the way when you switched the two words with "sp" listed as the reason. I'll trust you on the "the" part, and have removed it from the sentence. I put it there because I was confused as to where the plane had been, Landvetter all the time, or first Satena (?) air base and then Landvetter. The "the" as in; 'The plane took from the Heathrow airport and not Gatwick'. But a definite article is probably redundant anyway. Cheers. --Tsaddik Dervish 20:09, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Geographical Index of Toril - Infobox

[edit]

Bonjour,

Je vois que tu as supprimé les patrons (templates) vides dans nombre d'entrées des Royaumes oubliés. Saurais-tu comment créer une infobox, comme je le demande sur la page principale de l’index ?

Merci Reply to David Latapie 20:46, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Well, It took me ages to understand, because it is too simple (no really. Actually, it is because it is uncentralized, something I don't really like when it comes to templates). So here is the way.
write {{Template:your template}}
and that's it!
an empty link (red color) will appear when you will save. Click on this red Template link, modify it accordingly. Next time you will enter :write {{Template:your template}}, the text on the Template page will appear. Reply to David Latapie

Rick Kosick

[edit]

Please read Wikipedia:Patent nonsense, as IMO you must have no idea what it says. I hate Rick Kosick too, but the only CSD that might apply is vandalism. I hope you'll remove your speedy notice from it, as it spreads confusion about something that the WP:-space page makes crystal clear. Thanks. --Jerzyt 21:20, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tnx for the constructive response. I know it's hard to get every policy clear, and i guess that means we have to keep listening to each other. In fact, tnx for putting me in a position to put that into words again, by seeing it gracefully done.
--Jerzyt 20:51, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've come across numerous tags by you today claiming things are patent nonsense when they are emphatically not. Please do re-read that link: the text has to be complete gibberish (impossible to understand) or hopelessly confused so that extracting meaning is not reasonably possible. If it is understandable, it is not patent nonsense no matter how ridiculous the article is. Some of the things you've tagged were speediable under other criteria, so take another look through WP:CSD and consider using some of the other options. Something can be nonsensical without being speedy deleteable, unfortunately. Thanks. -Splashtalk 23:09, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also note with reference to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Psoffligger psychos that CSD A7 does not ever apply to bands. It can apply to an individual in a band if that is what the article is about, but not to articles about bands. Again, this is unfortunate, but is the way things are. -Splashtalk 23:11, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I often find the speedy rules frustratingly narrow too, but I guess that's the deletionist in me showing! -Splashtalk 19:15, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Social Technology

[edit]

Dear friend,

“Social Technology” is my first article at Wikipedia. I am new to this world of web publishing. Please pardon me for any errors that I have made and may make due to my ignorance of the norms and rules of the Wikipedia community.

This summer some good ideas occurred to me and I put them down in this article. In the article, I defined the term “Social Technology” and some basic areas to think and work upon.

Then I heard about Wikipedia where any one can contribute and enhance an article. I felt that this was a great place for ideas. I thought that many more ideas would come in and the article would be enhanced.

I posted it from my web log http://neeray.blogspot.com to this site. Unfortunately I forgot to post the copy right notice and a very vigilant member noticed the same article on my web log and marked it for copyright violation. I am very happy that people here are very vigilant. I have now posted the copy right message under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 on the “Social Technology temporary page” and in the article on my web log too.

Then I worked a little on the temporary page and find that now this is marked for deletion for “Rambling”. These are tiny seedlings of ideas. Please do not delete them even before they are seen and flower into something better. Please advise me as to what should I do to improve this article.

I have great faith in the collective wisdom of the people. That is what this article is about. Please do whatever is right according to the rules and norms of the community.

I tried posting this at the Articles for Deletion page but it is not showing there. Please tell me what to do.

Best regards, Nirupma Kapoor

neeray 06:01, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objection per se to a good article or a good stub on that engine or any other. Unfortunately, it doesn't give any information that isn't already mentioned in the article on its class, and is therefore redundant. Information that I would look for would be its depot allocations, withdrawal dates, some photographs, any technical features that are different from elsehwere, restoration details, etc. This information is available if you read the right books. Unfortunately, that article contained none of these, and was therefore redundant. I really think we need to be improving the article on a locomotive class before we then start creating articles the next level down. Dunc| 18:58, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Afd

[edit]

In my opinion, Afd is a strange way to discuss a merge. It'd be simpler and quicker to talk about it on the talk page. Friday (talk) 21:02, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No apologies neccessary, I don't mean to imply you did anything I'd consider harmful. Just perhaps unneccessary. I commented on the Afd giving my opinion and rationale. However, keep in mind my opinion is just that- one editor's opinion. If you feel Afd is the right way to go, by all means, go for it. It's not what I'd have done, but that surely doesn't make it "wrong". Friday (talk) 21:11, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Seems reasonable to think about it for a while. I'm guessing that, if, as nominator, you decide the Afd is unneccessary, nobody will mind if you withdraw the nomination. Of course, if people start suggesting delete, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to close the Afd then. It's not that I think Afd will cause any problems, I just personally hate to see it used except when neccessary. Friday (talk) 21:18, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
PS. I can't blame you, the edit summary was rather unkind. Friday (talk) 21:19, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nina Persson

[edit]

I didn't copy this page at all, just copied it from the biography I had written, and is used, on www.imdb.pro.

However I did copy the Showaddywaddy article, I was hoping someone would edit it rather than delete it as it is very important this band has a page. Also the article was freely available for use. However I have since rewritten and resubmitted it.

Thanks. GWP

[edit]

Have just seen the article at - www.celebarazzi.com/bio.php/6922/ - I wrote it, the name at the bottom is Graham William, I use this name for writing (there's another Graham Phillips, my real name).

Could I please resubmit it on the basis that I wrote it?

Btw I wouldn't plagarise, notice the Showaddywaddy article I didn't sign that as my own work. GWP

Thanks and also a request

You've been a big help in advising, correcting and wikifying. If you've got time, would you be able to sort out my article on John Morgan etiquette expert, submitted it tonight. He was an interesting guy.

Once more thanks for your help CLW, the date was July, my typo. Did get some stuff from the yummy article but I used to read his column, infact as a student I wrote him a letter asking how best to eat a falafel when you were drunk. He wrote a very nice reply saying I should use napkins and try to avoid distributing the contents over my clothes.

So how does it work at wikipedia, I like the way you edit things so is it ok for me to contact you whenever I put something on? Would that be a pain for you or would it potentially fall under someone else's remit?

All the best,

Hello CLW, hope you're well. Just to let you know I just submitted an article on 'An Epitaph for George Dillon'.

All the best,

CLW,

Glad you liked the article and thanks again for your helps and tips. It's a great play, would recommend if you're in the West End between now and January. If you look up Morgan's book of manners I'm sure it'd even tell you the correct outfit to wear for a matinee or evening performance!

You voted to delete DJ Quietstorm, and I can't blame you the way it looked :-) However I've found some evidence of notability, and cleaned up the article. Perhaps you'd like to take another look, and maybe think about changing your vote? the wub "?!" 18:19, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just edited this page, kept all that was already there and put in a revised version of something I'd written before. However I think that in cut-and-pasting what was there onto word and putting it back I've lost a couple of links - should the name be in bold?

Anyhow, would be grateful if you had the time to have a look at it.

All the best,

Graham

British English punctuation

[edit]

I was going to whip up some spurious defence based on the "conventional" vs "logical" methods of punctuation, but then remembered that that was quotation marks, and anyway more popular in the US than the UK, thus utterly undermining my original argument. So you were right and I was wrong. I'm blaming a brain fart. Sorry. — Franey 09:15, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Björn J:son

[edit]

Hi, yes the album cover is definitely convincing! I still wonder about the story behind it though. Is J:son perhaps an abbreviation of something like Johanson (the way Thos. is the abbreviation for Thomas and Wm. is the abbreviation for William)? How's it pronounced in Swedish? With the name of the letter J followed by "son"? --Angr/tɔk mi 09:23, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have replaced the picture in the Grendon article as the picture is actually of some the French twinners who put up some of the English visitors and are not Grendonians and so it can't possibly be a vanity issue - I doubt that Msr et Madame Pouchaine even know they are featured!

I'm kind of confused why you would rename the article to "J. J." His name is actually J.J. (sometimes seen without periods), similar to say T.J. Hooker (sometimes seen without periods). Please see: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. — There are no spaces. K1Bond007 19:53, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I moved it to Biloxi because that is its name. Invitation to the Forgotten Realms project

[edit]

Hi,

We are working on a Forgotten Realms Project to map Toril (mostly Faerûn, at the present). Since you contributed quite a lot on a Forgotten Realms-specific entry, I'd like to invite you to join the project, so we could improve the “Mapping the Realms” project.

The goal is to create a sort of World Factbook for the Realms. This means:

  • A consistent content
  • Use of templates
  • Entries should be limited to “sovereign places”: states and free cities, as well a moderately-inhabited place such as the Western Highlands.

On top of this, we also plan to cover Lost Empires, such as Pelvuria or Imaskar and, of course, Netheril

Main contributors are presently

Feel free to take a look. We hope to see you soon mapping the Realms with us! Reply to David Latapie 12:22, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fancy running another popup-assisted do-da to undo/fix the one you done for "Virgin Atlantic" to "Virgin_Atlantic_Airways"? You'll note the underscores you've added! Messy stuff. Thanks/wangi 19:31, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

reference
Hi CLW, well it's just that it's generally frowned on (see: Wikipedia:How does one edit a page#Links and URLs and Help:Filling the page#Internal links for starters), and one of the things that other bots spend time "fixing"! Doesn't really make much sense to me that you're replacing a redirect link with another link that could also be considered broken. Without piping the underscores do show up, e.g.: Virgin_Atlantic_Airways. Thanks/wangi 22:11, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
