ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, CIreland. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Well
No, I did not misunderstand anything. An admin on here was going round and round about something. I tried to tell him what you said. Maybe he'll understand it now that you edited too. Bleucheeses (talk) 03:19, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
Hello, you blocked this IP a short while ago. May be a case for revoking TP access also. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 23:16, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- It's been 'got'. Thanks anyway. Eagleash (talk) 04:53, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 special circular
Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:49, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Spouting off garbage that one probably does not even believe in, to get attention and make noise? That's a troll. I guess she could have a paid job to serve as an occupation, but none of us have seen any evidence of that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.1.114.34 (talk) 15:31, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing the issues over at the Groypers article—I was just about to request page protection when I saw you'd already done it. I won't be surprised if it needs to be semi-protected again for longer (or indefinitely) after this protection expires—I'm surprised at the volume of disruption in the very short period since I created the article. Invitation to join the Fifteen Year Society
Dear CIreland/Archive 6,
I'd like to extend a cordial invitation to you to join the Fifteen Year Society, an informal group for editors who've been participating in the Wikipedia project for fifteen years or more.
Best regards, Chris Troutman (talk) 03:22, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Why did you block me?!
Now, if I didn't have access to virtually unlimited proxies, I would have less to do in quarantine. Loser. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.62.240.227 (talk) 22:05, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Triple parens
Here's another one, this time a Canadian IP: Special:Diff/977232568. Not sure there's much to do there, other than fix them (which I did). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 01:12, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
I'll also note that I'm seeing cites to the AllMusic/AllMovie/AllGame family of cites with the triples in titles, in places where it wouldn't make sense to have the anti-semitic meaning. I tried checking a couple of them in archive to see if they were that way at one time and were later removed, just to prove that this wasn't a choice on the part of our editor, but instead the cite tool retrieving it from the site. Needs more research I think.
Also, in a cite to a tweet by JoshMalina, the Jewish actor, here, it shows:
- (((Josh Seasonal))) [blue checkmark]
@JoshMalina
Not being familiar with Twitpile, I don't know what the two names signify, except that it does seem to be verified to be his account. https://twitter.com/JoshMalina seems to be that actual Twitter name, so I don't know what the Josh Seasonal thing is about or why he would intentionally do that. Reading the lead of our article, I guess it's a form of protest to take "ownership" of it, in the same way that some groups might use self-referencing slurs. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 02:30, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure what's going on the AllMusic etc. citations; looks just like an odd stylistic choice. All the ones I looked at were added by the same user though so it could also be a byproduct of some automated tool. With regard to Malina, some Jewish individuals choose to reappropriate the symbol as means to avow the heritage (see our article on Triple Parentheses). CIreland (talk) 03:21, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- It's interesting that the IP that tried to remove my original comment from FriendlyChemist's talk page here also geolocates to the Toronto metro area that Special:Diff/977232568 does, on the same ASN and same provider (BC NEXXIS, though it probably serves a large percentage of the area, so that may not be all that surprising). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 16:36, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Amber Heard / Johnny Depp
Hi,
If you have time, please take a look at the edits being currently made to both articles, they break BLP rules. Editor refuses to find consensus in Talk, instead keeps adding the same material. Thank you! TrueHeartSusie3 (talk) 15:27, 21 February 2021 (UTC)TrueHeartSusie3
An article you may be interested in, Jessi Slaughter cyberbullying case, has just been undeleted. Any help you could give to this, included BLP-related edits, would be very much appreciated. --Bangalamania (talk) 11:33, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Riza Aziz protection
I see that you indef PC'ed Riza Aziz way back in 2014. Looking at it now, it doesn't seem to me that PC is necessary anymore, let alone an indefinite one. Only 50 edits since 2018 proves that the article isn't highly contentious anymore. Can the protection be decreased/removed? Thanks. Engr. Smitty Werben 00:09, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- No worries, I've removed the pending changes protection. CIreland (talk) 00:29, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
