OBOGWE
[edit]OBOGWE: Obogwe is a town in Ohaji/Egbema LGA in Imo State, Nigeria. Obogwe divided into two subdivision Owaelu known as Uwafor comprising 3 villages (Umuoma, Umuokpo, and Umuodu); Owaala known as Ogbenaerim comprising 2 villages(EziObogwe and Umuerim. Obogwe is about 5 to 7 kilometers from Owerri the capital of Imo state; and rich in culture, tradition and customs. The Obogwe people have a market located in a bend called Nwoboro, this market is known as Afor Obogwe where women sell their farm produce every 8th day on the Afor market day. The Obogwe people also observe what they called agba afor which is observed on Afor day every 12 days. Agba Afor is observed as a farm day of rest, nobody goes to farm on that day.
The people of Obogwe are peace loving people and very hospitable to strangers and are willing to lend a helping hand whenever they can. Obogwe people observe a festival named Agba which starts on Orie and ends on Eke.During this festival family and friends come from various areas to celebrate and give thanks for a season of good harvest. Obogwe has produced many prominent men in Ohaji and Imo state in general, in the likes of The late Peter Obi, Late Jerome Orindu, Late Alphonsus Anoruo, late Basil Ohagwam.Other Living legends are Apostle Benjamin Nwanoro, Chief Christopher Ugochukwu, Chief Ferdinand Umunnakwe,Ifeanyi Nwanoro, Meg Obi-Emereuwa, Gregory Obi, Barr. Ken Anoruo, Kelechi Ihenacho and many more prominent sons and daughters.
Obogwe is among the communities whose lands make up Adapalm; Obogwe shares and maintains boundaries with Obosima, Umungori Okuku, Mgbolo Okuku, Amafor, and Agwa. Obogwe is an agrarian community and also part of the oil producing area in Imo state. Market Day: Afor every 8 days Festival and celebration: Agba held between November and December Belief system: Christianity Villages: Umuerim, Ezi-Obogwe, Umukpo, Umuoma, Umuodu. Popular Organizations: Obogwe Progressive Town Union Lagos.
