I actually wholeheartedly agree with you. If I had my way much of the things you mention would be cleared out. But there's a reason why I try watching to make sure young professors like Janaki don't get pages unless there's a real demand: its because they're very hard to maintain unless I'm certain responsible people are looking at it regularly. In the case of Columbia professors in particular, if they have ever taken a position on Zionism, all sorts of people are always willing to add unpleasant material to their article that can last for quite some time. (Ditto if you've also taken a position on Hindutva.) I have known people who've come across articles about themselves or friends or spouses and have felt hurt and worried by the contents: that happens more often for people who are, like her, on the "margin" and would be looked up by a few people a week, even fewer of whom would muster the effort to change their bio if it looked heavily biased.

I urge you to take these arguments to the deletion debate. Its not because of an anti-academic bias that we try and exclude academics who won't have at least a few hundred page views a month; its because its precisely the people who have, and present, views who need a bit of protection from every passing person who disagrees with them. --Relata refero (disp.) 05:45, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
