It's in WP:NPA. I think it should be addressed here as well, as well as in any article that addresses dispute resolution and de-escalation of tense situations. Discussions about editors (in inappropriate forums such as article talk pages) should usually be avoided even when the discussions are far from anything resembling personal attacks. --Ronz (talk) 18:15, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Clarity of purpose is difficult to maintain when our focus as editors is way-layed by revenge. I suppose it is a natural tendancy to want to "even the score", but there can be no doubt that retaliation gets in the way of article editing. Civility is a multi-layered stand that provides a base of operations for a good faith editing experience.

"Comment on content, not the contributor" is one of the most important suggestions one editor can give to another. It is a reminder to "stay on purpose, remember what's important, put down that rock, don't waste time chasing windmills, we are creating an encyclopedia, Good Faith Editing is the Standard, etc."

Personally, "Comment on content, not the contributor" is the reminder that works best when I'm lost in the muck of some tete-tete with another editor. It conveys alot in a simple, easy to consume form. I agree that it is a very valuable sentence and should be included here. --Buster7 (talk) 13:29, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Please watch the edit conflicts

Twice today, here and here, you deleted comments from Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous). The best thing to do withen you get an edit-conflict notice is to start over. Ignore the instructions to merge your content from the bottom into the top, because there will be no protection against a second edit conflict. Just copy your words to a text editor and start the edit over. Deletion

There are several tools that can help keep a page from being deleted forever:

1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
   
3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
   Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
   Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
4. You can merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

2. Add Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Current discussions to your watchlist and start commenting on Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion, using the policies listed in User:Ikip/Del to help you, and to raise awareness of these inclusionist policies. Watch prominent inclusionists arguments carefully in AfDs, keep a list of good debates, and learn from them.

Communication, retention, and expansion

1. Add the Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron template to your talk page....DONE

Direct approach

1. Join the current debate at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion....:# Join the debates at WP:Notability articles, particularly Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) which is not a policy, but only a proposed policy. Notify me if this article has the {{policy}} tag added (I don't maintain a watchlist).
2. Watchlist all of the notability fork pages, and debate for these articles to become essays or historic. (Notability articles are the number one reason that articles are deleted).
3. Become familiar with the most prominent inclusionist editors contributions, listed here User:Ikip#Inclusionists, particularly User:DGG, the most prominent and most respected inclusionist editor. Introduce yourself to these editors, and ask how you can help.
4. Become familiar with the policies and procedures which support inclusionism: User:Ikip/Del

Research

1. Help me develop User:Ikip#Sausage, a page which undercuts many of the notability policies, by showing there was little or no consensus in the creation of these policies.
2. Help me develop User:Ikip/AfD on average day, a page which I am creating in an attempt to show that most articles put up for deletion were created by new users, that the majority of those articles deleted could have been salvaged and were notable, and were improperly closed.
3. Help me find and add more policy information and quotes from Jim Wales to User:Ikip/Del
4. Help me find more scholarly research and media articles which are critical of deletionists and notability guidelines.
5. Help me find good AfD debates, where an article was saved, adding these debates too User:Ikip/Del. See User:davidwr's excellent idea here: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)#Excellent_Article_for_deletion_debates.

Simple copy/edit request

Hi Buster7,

Whenever you have time, can you take a quick look at Euro_gold_and_silver_commemorative_coins_(Finland)#2009 coinage and Euro_gold_and_silver_commemorative_coins_(Belgium)#2009 coinage ... new coins were added in those two articles, and your copy/edit expertise is required and appreciated.

BTW, the yellow box on the top of this talk page redirect users to somebody else's talk page. I am not sure if you did it on purpose or not, but if it is a mistake, I can easily fix it.

Gil Scott-Heron

I hear you.. it's why I never went forward with it. However, for myself, the most notable thing about him is that he was really a founder of spoken word, and political activism. His record, Message to the Messengers is an album aimed at the rappers who glorify ghetto life, rather than singing about trying to change it. Take a look at Ron Holloway, now playing with Susan Tedeschi, the wife of Derek Trucks (of The Allman Brothers Band fame. Really, look at his page. He played like, 6 years with Gil Scott-Heron, and another 6 with Dizzy Gillespie. BTW, his page needs cleanup, but could easily become a GA article if folks looked at it. No. There's already an editor working on Gil Scott-Heron's page, who is from the GLBT workgroup. I am part of it, too, but have so many other things to do; and besides, to add a few sentences, (to see what happens..) I don't think it's a good idea, since when you do that you need references, of which I have none. Just personal knowledge of the man, and that's not OK here, it's called personal research. Perhaps someone else for now. Thanks for your interest in my projects anyway. HEY! If you aren't too busy, I have on my personal page here lists of people who I'm trying to contact to get permission for photos. Some are already without us doing anything.
