Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Bryantkale, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

\Article evaluation has been moved to User:Bryantkale/Article evaluation. I think it was misplaced and it is meant to be in your userspace. — MRD2014 Talk 00:51, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

LeAnne Howe article edits

[edit]

Just letting you know, there is feedback on the LeAnne Howe talk page regarding recent changes you have made. A reply from you is not necessary, as I understand the changes were made due to a course you are taking. There is however one issue regarding the source of the information and problems with WP:CLOSEPARAPHRASE. Please review them and make any changes needed at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them on my talk page. Thank you! Spintendo      02:06, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Bryantkale, I've removed the content. Posting previously published content is seen as plagiarism and a copyright issue, even if you include the citation as a source. In this situation the material is copyrighted to either Howe or the website that published the material, and is marked as such at the bottom. The general rule of thumb is to assume that anything you find on the Internet or offline is copyrighted in a way that would prohibit it from being published on Wikipedia unless it's clearly marked as falling within the public domain or has a compatible Creative Commons license. In general you're more likely to find things that you can't post verbatim or closely paraphrased than things that you can, as most authors tend to copyright in a way that protects their intellectual properties. You should re-write this in your own words, in way that doesn't come across as close paraphrasing. Something I recommend is taking notes from the source and then re-write those notes into your own words, as this makes it less likely that you'll come across this issue again.

I would like for you to re-review the module on plagiarism, thanks. I'm also going to ping your professor to the page. (Jenshook) Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:58, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Some of your addition to LeAnne Howe has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:51, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do not add content to an article that was taken from somewhere else. While I know that the ways that you can re-write this are limited, you should not lift the material verbatim from the website. Part of the reason for this is a plagiarism and copyright issue, however another is that the material isn't always neutral and would need to be re-written anyway. As stated above, please do not do this from here on out or you run a serious risk of getting blocked from editing, which could negatively impact your editing. I'm going to contact your professor Jenshook. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:52, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
