License tagging for Image:Chux.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chux.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:05, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Please do not add unhelpful and non-constructive information to Wikipedia, as you did to Super Bowl XL. Your edits could be considered vandalism, and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. ConDemTalk 04:08, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalise Wikipedia, as you did to Pittsburgh Steelers, you will be blocked from editing. Darthgriz98 04:11, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have been temporarily blocked from editing Wikipedia as a result of your disruptive edits. You are free to make constructive edits after the block has expired, but please note that vandalism (including page blanking or addition of random text), spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, personal attacks; and repeated, blatant violations of our neutral point of view policy will not be tolerated. Húsönd 04:35, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, please read my note at Talk:Myachi. Please don't take offense, but the copyright violation problem is extremely important, and so the information had to be removed. Also, some of it was written like an advert, rather than an encyclopedia article. I know you claim to be the founder of Myachi, but unfortunately any advert-like material put up by the company or representative is likely to be thought of as spam, and spam edits will be reverted. Continual spamming might result in a block. Anyway, Myachi might well be notable enough to be on Wikipedia - but this musn't be an advert or a how-to guide, but an encyclopedia article. ConDemTalk 03:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BrownsFanForLife. I'm sorry that my edits made you feel this way. I didn't remove the content to be annoying, or becuase I didn't like it, but because it was a copyright violation, and so had to be removed as soon as possible. For more information on copyright, see WP:CP. This generally means that it came word for word from another source - for example, the flip book. If this is the case, it can't be put up on wikipedia, because this would be violating copyright laws. Also, if it comes from the myachi website, it can't be put straight up here either, for the same reason. Don't forget that nothing on the page has been completely deleted - it's all in the page history, so you can always go back to the content that you added.
When I said that the page sounded like an advert, it's because it was a bit like the information had been written like it was meant to sell me a product, rather than teach me about it like an encyclopedia should. Take a look at WP:TONE to find out more. In essence, though, the article must sound like an encyclopedia article, rather than a how-to guide or an advertisement.
Sourcing is extremely important on Wikipedia. If you look at articles that have been around for a long time, like united States, you'll see that much of the information has a note in the Notes section. Information in Myachi must be sourced in the same way. If it came from a website, like Myachi's own website, then it must be cited. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for more info.
I hope this is helpful. At no point was I "shitting on you", or being anal about the page - it's just that the information under copyright had to be removed, even before telling you about it. If you look at the article's talk page, you'll see that I did give an example of the conent that was unencyclopedic. Remeber that the page doesn't belong to anybody, not even you or me, and so you can't ask to be contacted before any changes are made.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page (in a civil manner). Again, I'm sorry about the way my edits made you feel, but please don't take offense. Content on wikipedia that breaks copyright laws - that is, stuff that's word-for-word from somewhere else - has to be removed immediately.
Also, remember to sign all your posts on talk pages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will produce your username, and the time of your post. Feel free to ask me any questions, ConDemTalk 18:12, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. Basically, all information should be properly sourced. Some of the information - like the "Myachi in a nutshell" - isn't really suitable for wikipedia, because it's more of a "how-to guide" than an encyclopedia, and so can be left out. The rest of the information should be properly sourced, like it says on Wikipedia:Citing sources. So basically, it can't be word-for-word copying, and must be sourced. Go ahead and add it in, and I'll try and help out by changing it to Wikipedia style. ConDemTalk 01:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The easiest way to do it is probably with embedded citations, just adding the web address of the place you got the info in between square brackets after the piece of information. ConDemTalk 02:43, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:FingerChux.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FingerChux.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on List of All Myachis, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -WarthogDemon 20:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Myachi

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Myachi, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -WarthogDemon 21:01, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm prodding because you convinced me the aren't advertising. I'm just still not sure of the notability (at the very least it needs cleanup). However if this is really frustrating you, I'll get an admin to figure out whether or not prodding is needed. If it's not, you have my apologies for causing any stress. (I've been in your position so I hope I'm not sounding cold here.) -WarthogDemon 21:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I understand. It took me days to find sources for one article once and even now I'm not happy with the lack of findings. Anyway I contacted an admin. Hopefully he can help a lot better than I've been doing. -WarthogDemon 21:10, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I must be the admin in question. My opinion is that the subject is probably not notable. Notable does not mean famous, but that the subject got significant coverage by reliable secondary sources independent of it (and Reliable Sources in your case means mainstream media). What you are saying here about how hard it is to find sources fits with what I thought. -- lucasbfr talk 21:20, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:FingerChux.JPG listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:FingerChux.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:02, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(replying to message on my talk page) — Thanks for clarifying the copyright status. Please note that we cannot accept images used by permission only because we want Wikipedia content to be able to be reused by others, in modified form if desired. This image will be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tagging this image with a fair use tag doesn't help. It fails the first fair use critera that no free equivalent could be created. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:19, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(replying to message on my talk page) — You should read WP:COPYREQ. In short, you need to get the photographer of the picture to send an e-mail to permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org with a statement such as "I authorize the redistribution of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:FingerChux.JPG under the terms of the CC-BY-SA-2.5."
For reference, the terms of the CC-BY-SA-2.5 can be found here. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:26, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(replying to message on my talk page) — You're welcome. Let me know if you have any more problems. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:32, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(replying to message on my talk page) — I'm afraid there's not much I can do there. If you can't source the material, then we typically can't include it. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:38, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Myachi-set-2.gif

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Myachi-set-2.gif has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Myachi pages

[edit]

I am not a big fan of List of Pepsi types, personally. But there's a line between this article, that adds some context and List of All Myachis. For your second remark, I think you are mistaken about what wikipedia is and is not. Our notability guidelines are there to prevent the creation of articles that can't be verified. If you can't find coverage, that's, by definition, because the subject is not notable. Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thoughts. You might want to read this essay on the subject. -- lucasbfr talk 23:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you would provide the list of these sources that would be great. However, the sources must be 3P (third party). I'm not saying the item does not exist, but the fact that it is not sourced outside of it's own website, does violate WP:VERI. Finally, the article also fails really to meet WP:NOTE. I know that all these rules might seem like a bunch of bureaucracy, but these policies are part of what make wikipedia the success, or some may say disaster, that it is. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (ταlκ) 23:11, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if you don't like the way things are, but I didn't make the rules. Once again I'm sorry. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (ταlκ) 23:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Myachi

[edit]

Moved from User talk:The Random Editor.

You say you did a Google search on Myachi and pulled up "nothing." However, I just searched the same thing and found 4 sites with info. Granted, they have the same information as the Myachi article on here, but that's what you get. THAT'S THE ONLY INFORMATION AVAILABLE. What else do you want? Most of this info on Myachi comes from Steven Ochs, Myachi's creator. There's no books, no movies, nothing we can quote or source. You want his e-mail address? Any of the 'Myachi Masters' can verify the truth in everything I've stated on Wikipedia. I can give you his phone number, too.

I don't know what it'd take to satisfy you guys, but what we have is what we have, and it'll have to suffice.

BrownsFanForLife 23:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It most certainly is a disaster. I'm just trying to compile a respectable article on Myachi, so any kid with access to the internet can look it up and learn more about Myachi. Yes, Myachi is a decade old now, but it's still growing. There is next to nothing that discusses it. Everyone always links me to more Wikipedia pages, with more info than I need. NO ONE will tell me what to do and where to do it, they just link me to giant pages. Pages so huge I can never find what I need.
So if you want me to add sources and whatnot, then you damn well best tell me what to do, when, where, how, and why.
BrownsFanForLife 23:14, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you don't make the rules. But what's the point of enforcing them if you don't tell me why? I don't know what I'm doing, or how, or even why. I try to write an article on Myachi, for other peoples' use, and everyone starts barking at me about how I'm doing everything wrong. NO ONE will tell me what I need to do, what to say or what tags to put on the page. No one will do it themselves either, they just delete the article and pretty much spit in my face.
BrownsFanForLife 23:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the discussion here to keep everything more concise, please reply on this page. Okay here is the general runover of the rules I have mentioned. WP:VERI pretty states the any potentialy questionabe statements in a article need to be verifiable a reliable source. Wikipedia:Reliable sources states that Reliable sources are authors or publications regarded as trustworthy or authoritative in relation to the subject at hand. It also states that Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. The general concept behind having reliable third party sources is that it proves that the information is completely accurate. Now onto WP:NOTE which states that subject must have a decent level of notability. To find out the general rules for notability read the following Wikipedia:Notability#General notability criterion. Hope that helps. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (ταlκ) 23:38, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So you mean that I have to wait for a few more years, at least, until there is sufficient information and proof? There's damn well nothing I can do right now... Myachi is new, there's not much info available. That's not my fault, but apparently I can't write the article either way. -- BrownsFanForLife 23:53, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that pretty much says it. Once again. I'm sorry. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (ταlκ) 23:56, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well thanks for at least being reasonable... I'm just trying to make an article we can actually be proud of, something that doesn't look like crap, but every little thing has to be perfect.... -- BrownsFanForLife 23:59, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
