Pork roll/Taylor Ham

[edit]

Consensus appears to be for "Pork roll" judging by the talk page. I noticed that this account was inactive for 9 years before making those (controversial?) changes. Maybe it should be discussed first. --Fru1tbat (talk) 14:18, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, I think that the topic can benefit from further discussion. As it stands, the current talk page consists of anecdotal evidence submitted by users of which only two are signed, and the first citation directs to a dead page. The updates I had made cite a New York Times article describing the product as: "Taylor ham, invented and loved in New Jersey since 1856, is a lightly smoked slightly spicy pork product generally sold in rolls of three or six pounds that must be hand-sliced and then grilled or fried." The times is a reputable source, and I would appreciate an acceptance of the revision I had made while debate occurs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrosefStalin (talkcontribs) 19:04, 10 December 2018 (UTC) [reply]
That a reliable source happens to use a particular term does not imply uncategorically that it's the "correct" term. Especially, in this case, for a fluff piece. The NYT article discusses the naming debate in exactly one place, where it says "the name [Taylor ham] refuses to die." The article's assertion that "there is not a diner in New Jersey that does not offer Taylor ham" is exaggeration, not fact. Elsewhere it uses the term essentially interchangeably. That's hardly any kind of "proof". Given that consensus was established in the past for "pork roll" being the more general term, I don't think it's appropriate to keep your revision while the discussion is ongoing. If anything, any move away from "pork roll" needs to gain consensus first, and then a move could take place. --Fru1tbat (talk) 19:20, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've moved everything back to the version you want. You've made a bit of a mess of things, though, so I'm going to bring it to an administrator's attention so someone else can clean it up if needed. I don't really care where the article ends up, as long as there's consensus for it. --Fru1tbat (talk) 19:53, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
