Protected titles
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you were trying to protect the title of AlpInvest Partners, so I deleted the page again (CSD G6) and added it to the protected titles page. Since {{deletedpage}} was TfD'd, we should be using the protected title cascade-protect solution now. There are instructions on the page at WP:PT, and if you need any further help just give me a call. Cheers, Nihiltres(t.l) 15:40, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. The way that it works is that the protected page lists are cascade-full-protected, so any page transcluded into them is automatically protected from editing, even though its nonexistence may prevent it from being directly protected. The {{protected title}} template transcludes the empty page in a nice orderly way so that the list doesn't get messy. This is generally better than {{deletedpage}} was, because it means links to the page are red, the history is hidden, and all the usual advantages of deletion. :) Nihiltres(t.l) 15:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Status template
[edit]Here's how to create a status template:
- 1. Create a page called User:Brookie/StatusTemplate and copy the code from here, but replace my username in the code with yours.
- 2. Create another page called User:Brookie/Status and paste my code (again replacing my username with yours), and put in your desired status. (in for online, out for offline and busy for busy.
- 3. Paste this code on the top of your userpage:
<div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:12px; top:16px;" class="metadata" id="developer"> {{User:Brookie/Status}}</div>
- 4. Change User:Brookie/Status whenever you are online or offline.
Hope this helps--- STORMTRACKER 94 20:13, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Atkinson.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Atkinson.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Roumieu disambiguation
[edit]Dear Brookie
Some user or administrator called User:JHunterJ altered the disambiguation page I entitled Roumieu (disambiguation} and they also changed the "otheruses" line at the top of the Robert Lewis Roumieu page.
This is not helpful, just charging in willy-nilly and destroying people's work. I had enough of it last year.
I have done several undo's, both on the Roumieu disambiguation page which now appears as a "red"link at the top of Robert Lewis Roumieu article. Cannot quite get things back to normal - although if you search for Roumieu alone, the disambig page will show up. It still exists, but the article "otheruses" line is all messed up now.
Could you please get things back to normal for me? - and perhaps set the other user, who is an Admin, straight?
Thanks. --FClef (talk) 00:50, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- I have fixed the red link to the disambig page to your one; I have altered the tag back to {{surname}} as that does appear correct - and only affects the message at the bottom of the page; will have a look at the other when I have time. Huge help
[edit]Hello there,
Unfortunately, my user page was deleted days ago. I now understand the reason behind the deletion and I'm ok with it, what I am kindly asking you to do, is to please restore my user page temporarily, simply just while I save all of the information I had on my user page to my personal computer. Sadly, I do not have any other copy of all the information I had gathered on this page, and after its deletion, I lost it all completely. I am sad about it, and I want to beg you to please restore the page so I can save my information.
Huge thanks in advance.

You've done some good work on Eddie Chapman ! You really want to use Template:PD-BritishGov on his image though, as Template:PD-Old refers to images where the copyright holder has been dead for over 100 years. I've changed it for you. I know you listed the source as a police photo but presumably that's not the original source you used to upload the image? I'm guessing it was either from another webpage or scanned from a book... just so it's confirmable that it is a police photo from the date you specified, could you add that source information too? I noticed that you (by User request) restored deleted information which was removed per Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Canuck01 to a new page at User:Canuck01/deleted material. Was there a particular reason for this, or was this new page supposed to be temporary? If so, do you plan to re-delete it? The user is now editing this restored material as he was before, when it was on his User Page: [1] Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of the consensus to delete at MfD? Just wondering.... - eo (talk) 01:54, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Brookie, my brother
[edit]Brookie my brother and friend, it has been a long time! I have a question. Maybe you can help me or find someomne who can.
I wrote an article about a WW I hero, Marcelino Serna. Now according to my research he was awarded the "British Medal of Honor". I know that something must be wrong because I can not find any reference to such an award. The question is: was there a British Medal of Honor? If not, then what is the highest military decoration that the British government would bestow upon an American soldier during that conflict? Orphaned non-free media (Image:RoTh.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:RoTh.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 03:15, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

provide text of deleted article
[edit]Hi,
You are listed as an admin who is willing to provide text of deleted articles. The article "Munro Pineapple Society" was deleted about 8 months ago by the proposed deletion procedure which I believe should be reversible on request. At the time I was not checking wikipedia. I think it has now disappeared from the deletion log so I can't even see the justification for deleting it. It didn't get to go through a deletion debate and now that I can't read it I can't even decide whether it might stand a chance or not...
Thanks,

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fbcard.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Fbcard.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:29, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

After Dark (Washington University in St. Louis)
[edit]Hi, Brooke,
The page "After Dark (Washington University in St. Louis)" was deleted for copyright infringement. I'm assuming this was because of the text in the "About" section, which was copied and pasted from our website at afterdark.wustl.edu. The two people who created the article (myself included) are members of the group. I was the writer of the text which appears in the about section (and on the website), as well as the artist for the two album covers. The logo which appeared on the page was created by another member of the group, who gave permission for its use.
We can rewrite the text that is copied from the website, but we would like the page to be restored. Can you help us?
Thank you, Jazzy

Sir
[edit]I was looking around to do some editing on pages related to bands in the hardcore/punk scene and i was going to do work on the page of [Barry Donegan] and noticed he was "speedily deleted". He is relevant under a few different categories of notability, and I'm not sure if there was proper reference for his entry at the time.
He is a well known musician and political activist, who has a release on a major indie, tons of interviews and reviews in credible source magazines and is the middle tennessee Libertarian parties candidate for City Council in Metro/Davidson county in an upcoming election.
I would like to do some work on this page and some of the other bands of such note in the underground punk and hardcore scene of the day, but it seems many of them have been speedily deleted despite having plenty of easy to find references of notability [evan brewer] is another example.(bass player in notable bands Animosity, Terror, and A Life Once Lost)
Just for example on [Barry Donegan],
http://www.decibelmagazine.com/upfront/jan2006/look_what_i_did.aspx
there is a web-copy of a print magazine which is carried in most grocery stores with an interview.
this source lists him as a candidate for city council in Metro/Nashville Davidson County recognized by the Libertarian Party.
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:dxfyxqwaldje
There is an all-music listing showing two album credits for past albums, one of which was on KOCH/COMBAT and heavily distributed.
I'd like to start referencing these pages but I'd hate to see them speedily deleted again!
I will start anyways, I was just told the process on an A7 deleted involved contacting the deleter to explain that you had better sourcing first. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Caligulanero (talk • contribs) 12:24, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

licensing for screenshots of blogs?
[edit]Hi Brookie,
I hope this post finds you well.
I have been editting blog and noted that one thing the article needs is more images/enlivening. It would be nice to be able to include screenshots of various blog pages, e.g., that of Ellen Simonetti. I draw a blank as to the licensing issue associated with that, or if it is even o.k. There is this "fair use" option, which I sort of grasp, but not really... Does the use of a screenshot of someone's blog to be included in the article on blog constitute "fair use"?
So I write for advice. If we can answer this question, and come up with a standard licensing/fair use statement for screenshots of blogs that would allow such images to be included in the article (or if you have other suggestions...), that would be great, 'cause then we can include a number of interesting screenshots. I posted an inquiry on the talk page for blog on this, but got no response.
Thanks ahead of time, even if you have nothing to offer, and thanks also for looking after the Simonetti page. Bdushaw (talk) 07:28, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there and thanks for the note - to be honest I don't know what the answer is to this one - as it's not something I have come across - the best I can do is suggest that you re-post the query at Wikipedia:Village pump and see if a boff there knows the answer - kind regards Brookie :) - he's in the building somewhere! Vandal keeps editing with unsourced material
[edit]This user: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Red4tribe continues to vandalise the pages of the Battle of Harlem Heights and the Battle of White Plains to American victories. The references already there, clearly states that Harlem Heights is a draw, while White Plains is a British victory. However, he continues to edit them to American victories, while leaving the previous reference there! He has continued to vandalise these pages, so it is my recommendation that his editing abilities be suspended. Thankyou. (Trip Johnson (talk) 11:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC))
- Clearly this is a disputed area and something of which I know nothing - it is therefore not something I can get involved in - sorry! Brookie :) - he's in the building somewhere! (Whisper...) 10:02, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you wish for an example, he persists in editing battles in the New York / New Jersey campaign to being American victories, changing casualty numbers without providing reliable sources, and has also personally insulted me. Just look on the talk page for the Battle of Harlem Heights for an example. Clearly this is a regular wiki vandal, who should have his editing rights or account removed. He has also edited the Battle of White Plains to an American victory and the Battle of Trenton to a decisive American victory. This user is clearly vandalising Wikipedia's pages, and his account & IP should be blocked. (Trip Johnson (talk) 21:49, 12 April 2008 (UTC))
- Our references differ, he takes the British references, I the Americans, Reasonable bias. If you look back you will see I have never personally insulted him, but he has indeed to me. Also his "reliable references" all come from one site, and every time I post a reference, no matter what it is, it is automaticlly unreliable in his eyes. Feel free to look back through any change I've ever made and you will see I am most certinly not a vandal. (Red4tribe (talk) 21:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC))
