Your recent edits about Anneessens
[edit]About your recent changes and reversal of content, I think that the usage cited is not sufficient to create a real WP:COMMONNAME. In fact, 'François Anneessens' is the common 'English name' used by several Brussels institutions, including the Brussels Tourist Agency (visit.brussels), the Brussels Heritage Days (patrimoine.brussels), the Brussels Inventory of Architectural Heritage (monument.heritage.brussels), and the list goes on. At most, the use of either 'Frans' or 'François' is a matter of personal preference. Even Dutch-language sources use both – see here, here or here where the French form is preferred. As you know, historical figures often have local variants to their names, which are sometimes rendered differently in English, regardless of what language these people may have spoken during their lifetime (e.g. Plutarch is not generally called 'Plutarchus' in English nor is Raphael commonly referred to as 'Raffaelo', etc.). It seems rather POV for you to just deny this. Besides, contrary to your comment and as I have explained to you in my edit summaries, the long-standing Brussels naming conventions established back in 2007 not only concern placenames but apply to all Brussels-related matters, where relevant. Please familiarise yourself with those conventions before making further assumptions about them. If you disagree with them, you are free to open a discussion for their overhaul on their appropriate talk page. In any case, arbitrarily renaming links and removing one of two native names (i.e. the French one) from the lead, as you did in the article about Anneessens, is not the correct approach. As also explained, the version you keep reverting to on the page Grand-Place/Grote Markt contains formatting errors, which is against WP:MOS. I have also noticed that you have made more errors on Central Boulevards of Brussels. For that reason, I will reverse your changes once more. Once done, you are again free to open a discussion to gain consensus for them. Jason Lagos (talk) 21:18, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
