User talk:Briottie
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Briottie, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was iOttie, Inc., which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! | Naypta✉ opened his mouth at 12:51, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of iOttie, Inc.
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on iOttie, Inc., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Username warning
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Briottie", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. KGirlTrucker87 (talk) 13:48, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.
If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Deb (talk) 15:33, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

{tlx|unblock|My name is Brittany and I was just trying to make a page to let users know about the company iOttie. I was not intending on advertising, I just wanted to get the word out. For future I can ask editors to edit the page to make it so it is not advertising in this case. Also, why did it take this long for this to be noticed? I am surprised to just log in after months and find all this information. I understand there are strict rules but is there a deadline that was met? Thank you! }}
- It is indeed a strange coincidence that you happened to log in after months, less than an hour after the article was deleted. Saying "I just wanted to get the word out" indicates a clear intention to advertise, but in any case you need to address the guidelines on notability and verifiability. Unblocked
[edit]Hi Brittany,
I've unblocked this account, as it does technically identify an individual and thus meets our username policy. That said, you might still wish to change your username to avoid any possibility of further confusion (though this isn't strictly necessary). If you still want to create an article, that's fine, although there are some things you may wish to be aware of. First, you should use the articles for creation process so that if there are further issues, your draft will be declined instead of deleted. Secondly, most of the article should be based in independent sources—ones that were not written or paid for by the company. If there aren't any, then it may unfortunately not be ready for an article yet. Finally, try to make sure to use a very neutral and factual tone, as if you were simply a third-party person trying to inform people about this company. Check out some of CorporateM's articles if you want to see the type of tone, content, and sources people will want to see, though your own article doesn't necessarily have to be that detailed. It would also be fantastic if you decided to stay on as a volunteer editor; there are millions of articles that need improving and millions more that have yet to be created. Anyway, good luck! --Jakob (talk) aka Jakec 16:57, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
