Hi Brianboulton

In case you didn't know, I have nominated "S&M" for FAC once again. It is the tenth nomination. I have collaborated with the co-nominator on the article, and it has been through a Peer Review, of which several people who are experienced with the process gave help. As you opposed my fourth nomination, I would appreciate it if you would re-read the article and give your opinion on how you feel about the article now over at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/S&M (song)/archive10. Thank you.  — AARONTALK 10:29, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, I commented on and opposed the fourth nom, way back in November 2011. Since then you have gained a conom whose work I know, and who has considerable FA experience. You also have two supports on the current FAC, so the auguries look good. I am in something of a rush at the moment as I shall be away for several days from Sunday, and have quite a bit to clear up before then. If I can find a little time before Sunday I'll definitely take a look. I commend you on your perseverence with this nomination which I am pretty sure is an all-time record – I can't think of another with that many noms in my six years at FAC. The Rite

Look for it here (pictured, will keep it even longer on my user, I saw that performance) and here, for motion ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:10, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey Brian! How are you? I hope you are doing fine. I was wondering, could you please do the source spotcheck on the FAC for me? Thank you and cheers. — Tomíca(T2ME) 13:38, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

This will be difficult before about the 7th or 8th August, so if you are in a hurry it might be as well to find someone else. Sorry about that. Brianboulton (talk) 19:18, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
It's okay. I can wait until then. Cheers! — Tomíca(T2ME) 19:57, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

"Edit source"

First, they changed the position of the edit button from the right of the page to the left. That might have been a sensible idea. Now they have renamed the button "edit source"; that is not a good idea. Is there likely to be anyone who didn't know what the "edit" button was for, and will know now that it's been renamed? This is change for change's sake; the new button is larger, uglier and more intrusive than its predecessor, without offering any obvious benefit. Change it back, I say. Change it back. Brianboulton (talk) 19:15, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Away for a few days

I won't be editing for a few days. Apologies to those still waiting for their reviews. I should be back by the middle of next week. Brianboulton (talk) 00:05, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: George Lansbury

This is a note to let the main editors of George Lansbury know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on August 15, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 15, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

George Lansbury

George Lansbury (1859–1940) was a British socialist, editor and campaigner who led the Labour Party from 1932 to 1935. He spent most of his political life campaigning for equality, social justice, women's rights and world disarmament. Before entering the national scene he served in the East End of London in numerous local elective offices. First elected to parliament in 1910, he resigned his seat to campaign for women's suffrage, and was briefly imprisoned after publicly supporting militant action. Lansbury became editor of the Daily Herald newspaper, which maintained a strong pacifist stance during the First World War, and supported the 1917 Russian Revolution. Lansbury was excluded from the brief Labour government of 1924, but served as First Commissioner of Works in the Labour government of 1929–31. After the economic crisis of August 1931 Lansbury refused to join the National Government under Ramsay MacDonald and became leader of the Labour Party in opposition. His pacifism in the face of rising European fascism put him at odds with his party, and in 1935 he resigned the leadership. He spent his final years travelling in the United States and Europe in the cause of peace and disarmament. (Full article...)

Image review

I will be glad to do the image review, though it may take me a few days. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:38, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

No hurry. I am not expecting rapid passage. Brianboulton (talk) 21:52, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Diary of a Nobody

Hello, BB. Before I support at FAC, is there no information whatever about the composition of the Diary -- how and when the brothers worked, who had the original concept, and how they moved from concept to publication? Also, in your FAC nomination paragraph, you might note that the diary is a work of fiction or that Pooter is a fictional character. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:53, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

There is nothing I have found which indicates who had the original idea or how they went about their task. GG doesn't mention the collaboration in A Society Clown (which may have been finished before the diary serialisations began) and nor do any of the many sources I have drawn on. At a guess I'd say the idea was probably George's – he had contributed an earlier series to Punch – and Weedon was more of an illustrator than a writer. But there is no confirmation of this, so I think the matter will have to remain open. Unless you can throw light on it... And, yes, I'll clarify the nom statement as you suggest. Brianboulton (talk) 23:30, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming this. I got the idea somewhere that George did the bulk of the writing, if not all of it, but I can't remember why I thought that, and I must not have had a really reliable source for that info, or I'd have mentioned it in George's article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:33, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

PumpkinSky and I have recently deposited at peer review, this article of ill-repute. I hope you can look in at some point. link to peer review--Wehwalt (talk) 01:29, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

This looks like real fun and I shall enjoy doing it. From a glance I notice that she is "sculpted with a raccoon" – very original, difficult to do, hard on the raccoon. I may be a day or two getting to it, as I have "obligations"... Brianboulton (talk) 08:54, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, we'll greatly appreciate any help. Shall we leave the raccoon as is for humor's sake? haha. PumpkinSky talk 09:49, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
(watching) Yes, please leave humour, we have to little of it, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:10, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

No, it was Wehwalt wot changed it - pity, that. Brianboulton (talk) 15:42, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
I am certainly not above leaving jokes in my articles, but I do prefer to have intended them! If I have not already imposed too much on your time, Stone Mountain Memorial half dollar is now at FAC and could use a look-in (and a source review) if you are not already bewitched. You were kind enough to peer review it.--Wehwalt (talk) 14:43, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
I just added 4 new free photos to the article. Thanks for picking up the PR. I really appreciate it and look forward to the rest of it. I'll start on the comments you made now. PumpkinSky talk 23:44, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. You're invited to participate in a peer review for the Mughal-e-Azam article at Wikipedia:Peer review/Mughal-e-Azam/archive1. I hope that constructive input from several people can better prepare it for FAC. Review help

Hi Brian! I haven't spoken with you in a while. I hope everything's fine with you. I was just wondering if you could take a look at Wikipedia:Peer review/Harry Glicken/archive1? It's a short little article, and I think one with a far more positive tone than previous volcano victim ones I've done. Of course, I'd love to help you out and look at anything you're developing. Again, I hope everything is well. ceranthor 04:42, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Good to hear from you. This shouldn't be a problem, as it's fairly short, though I have another review in progress at the moment, so it may take a day or so. Brianboulton (talk) 07:44, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

But seriously. I've noticed that the apparent best syntax I come up with can be the syntax that changes text back to text from the source edging on copyvio issues... Just something to keep an eye on as we make copy edits.(olive (talk) 22:58, 15 August 2013 (UTC))

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Symphony No. 8 (Sibelius) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

C/E help

Hello Brian, I looked you up on the peer review volunteer page and I need your assistance cos I'm in a bit of a pickle. I started this article from scratch and got too excited when it got GA status that i nominated it for FA without forgoing a peer review :s I'm a bit disadvantaged cos English is not my native language and god knows how hard i've tried to get better at writing here but apparently I'm always messing up as you can see here and as one reluctant reviewer said: "there are still areas that could be improved ... prose could be improved..." and I have no clue where to start because getting the article to where it is now was enough of a headache. If you can be kind enough to scan the article for obvious and deadly prose mistakes i'd be very greatful and i think the subject will be of interest to you since you are into ME history... many thanks -Eli+ 19:05, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

I will not have time to look at this for a day or two. If the FAC is closed meantime, I advise that you open a peer review, and I will give the article some attention there. Brianboulton (talk) 20:13, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Thankyou :) -Eli+ 04:43, 20 August 2013 (UTC) Hello Brian, I asked Ian to close the FAC discussion because it was leading nowhere and I listed the article for peer review in the history section. Please help whenever you are free or point me to someone who can be of assistance and who likes classical antiquity stuff. thanks a lot -Eli+ 12:46, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Good foryou. Unfortunately, my German is minimal so I won't be able to read that version. Brianboulton (talk) 18:05, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Well, it'll be exactly the same as the English version...:) Just in German. So, you'll be able to read it by default! LOL. There can be only one...TheKurgan (talk) 18:07, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
(watching) I would like to nominate it for the German Main page (Schon gewusst?) It should just have a few more refs, soon. Did you know that it would be shown for two full days? Generally views are high, see here, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:39, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Brianboulton. Only one person has commented on the Sarnia FAC nomination page in any meaningful way, and he opposes it for prose issues. I ran the entire article through www.readability-score.com, and it shows up at grade level 11-12. He also mentioned a 2-week limit. What's with that? I don't remember reading about that, but, then again, I may just have missed it. Let me know what you think! There can be only one...TheKurgan (talk) 21:37, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I mentioned the opera on WP:TFAR. Did you know that The Rite appears on my user? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:18, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Blurb needs some attention - I will get to that. Do you think this is a better choice than Bizet's 175th anniversary on 25 October? I don't think there can be two Bizet TFAs within a month. Brianboulton (talk) 17:19, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
I think it's better as it's the anniversary subject's anniversary. But your choice would be of more importance, - perhaps discuss with Bencherlite. I expect him to be open for two important anniversaries, especially as one is a person, the other his opera, - that should mean even different categories. Both articles look the same at present, that might change, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:28, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
With 3.5 weeks between the dates in q, I don't have much of a problem with two such fine articles appearing on those dates, but I am merely the ever-so-'umble vessel of the will of the community etc etc and so other people's views may differ... BencherliteTalk 20:44, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
I am not teh community, but wouldn't even mind them to appear within a week. You may want to include the upcoming other date to the nomination and see how people feel about that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:10, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Brian, I am just dropping a note to let you know that the article detailing Southern Rhodesian involvement in World War I is now at FAC here. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Michael Tippett, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crystal Palace (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

  • So glad you're working on Tippett--a composer who thanks to you should get his due at least on Wiki. Look forward to reading the eventual results. Meanwhile, I've started an article on the Tippett piano concerto that hopefully will complement your efforts on the main article by the time I'm finished. If you have any suggestions on sources, please let me know. While I know the general history on the piece (one of my favorite Tippett pieces despite its reputation for not being one of his best), detailed commentary has so far been a little light. Thanks. Jonyungk (talk) 17:06, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Just in case you're interested, I have put this article up for a pre-FAC peer review here. It's not ready for FAC yet as I want to replace some sources with better ones and although it's had quite a bit of copyediting since it got to GA status, it could probably do with some more. Any feedback welcome. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:07, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

I will certainly look at the article, and will try to leave some initial review comments tomorrow, when I get home (I've been away for a few days). I see that Eric has suggested you could ask me for a copyedit. It's unlikely I will have the time to do this, but I might be able to help in smaller ways. Brianboulton (talk) 22:01, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Any help you can give would be very much appreciated. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:04, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
