Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Brian Coughtrey, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

You may also want to complete the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can visit the Teahouse to ask questions or seek help.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome!

Hello, please don't ask the same question in different locations. I will look at your sandbox 'article for creation' and copy edit it more in line with Wikipedia's manual of style (see link above). References should be added in line at the point in the content where they apply (see WP:REFB for how to do this). If stuck don't hesitate to ask for help. Cheers. Adding Ralph Allen to list of Canadian Artists and Canadian painters

[edit]

I am not sure how to add someone to a semi-protected list? I would like to get Ralph Allen added to the Wikipedia list of Canadian Artists and Canadian Painters. The link below from the Canadian Government should suffice to verify his credentials. https://app.pch.gc.ca/application/aac-aic/artiste_detailler_bas-artist_detail_bas.app?rID=29473&fID=2&lang=en&qlang=fr&pID=865&ps=50&sort=AM_ASC

Or Perhaps the fact that he has works in the Canadian National Gallery: https://www.gallery.ca/collection/artist/ralph-allen

His full Bio can be found here, on the Canadian Art database http://ccca.concordia.ca/artists/artist_info.html?languagePref=en&link_id=1874&artist=Ralph+Allen

[edit]

With regard to what you have said above, you shouldn't add him until the article is completed, not while it's a draft. By then you should be auto-confirmed and be able to add it yourself.

Your first four refs are OK, the last is not. Although you attribute it to the Whig-Standard it's actually linked to his own website and is in any case a self-quote, so not in any sense an independent third-party source. That page has links to the the original text, so if it was of value, it should be linked directly, eg to this page with full details of the source as it appears at the top of the pdf.

Much of your text is still unsourced, and needs proper references. You appear to be indulging in speculation and mind-reading quite a lot, for example, the unsourced claim The pressing commitments of professorship and raising a large family reduced his exhibiting in the 1970s.... Also became the starting point for a renaissance in Allen’s work....he had essentially begun again. Whilst landscape has always been an important feature of his work, in more recent years, Allen has been more interested in the human dimension. Is presented as a fact, but again, it's actually him talking about himself, and of no value. What we want is facts to show why he meets our notability guidelines for creative professionals, not self-centred musing about himself Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:55, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help request

[edit]

I have replied to your request at User talk:Brian Coughtrey/sandbox. For future reference it is probably best to make help requests at your talk page (rather than the sandbox talk page) using the {{help me}} template as you have done earlier on this page. It helps, also, if all advice etc. can be kept in one location if possible and please try to avoid asking the same question in either more than location or repetitively. Thank you. Happy editing. Hi Eagleash, I have been chatting with mrclog... and he had made the appropriate edits. He had asked me to re-submit, so I assume the page is now complete?

Sources

[edit]

Hello and thank you for your edits. Just a note that everything on Wikipedia needs to be verifiable. When you add details (like the claim that Ralph Allen emigrated to Canada from the UK), they need to have a source. Find an external independent source that mentions this, and put it between the "ref" tags at the bottom of the edit box. Let me know if you have any questions!ThatMontrealIP (talk) 14:21, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
