(rv Parzival418 - those aren't "further reading", they're primary sources that are cited more than once. also moving further reading above citations)

No problem on that - I moved them becaused they were formatted like further reading examples not connected to footnotes. I didn't realize they'd been referenced in the artcle. Thanks for catching that. --Parzival418 Hello 17:15, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam in Errant

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Errant, by SkierRMH (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Errant is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Errant, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Errant itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 04:53, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your block of User:Tawniz

[edit]

Not sure why you saw fit to block this user indefinitely. While he has certainly been misbehaving today, which is why I blocked him, his account certainly isn't vandal-only. Even my own block was way too long at 31 hours (it was a mistake actually; when I realized I was going back to change it and noticed you'd reblocked him). Exploding Boy 18:52, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's really no recourse for such blatant and potentially libelous vandalism. The user has also been warned before for other activities on their talk page. If you disagree, feel free to reduce their block time (indefinite != forever) but make sure you watch their contributions over the next several days. — BRIAN0918 • 2007-06-28 18:58Z
The user has a couple of warnings for inappropriate page creations, and one for Copyvio. He has one warning for vandalism, which is from today, but he also has some good edits.
It's common practice to inform other admins if you're going to undo their actions, and it's also common practice to inform people on their talk pages if you've blocked them, and for how long they're blocked. I'm not going to get into a wheel war, but I suggest you unblock the user and reblock him for 24 hours or less, with a note on his talk page. If he continues vandalising on his return, he'll be blocked again. Exploding Boy 19:02, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:RoswellDailyRecordJuly8,1947.jpg as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia 13:42, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image

[edit]

Hi, I came across this image Image:Benny Hinn.jpg which you uploaded way back in January 2006. While at the time, it was probably acceptable as I suspect your aware under current intepretation of free content policy it's generally not acceptable to use a fair use image simply to illustrate what someone looks like, especially someone like Benny Hinn who makes so many public appearances. I had planned to tag it for deletion but decided to just let you decide whether it's acceptable. I did search for a replacement but only came across a flickr photo which was from too far a distance to be of any use. Cheers. Nil Einne 11:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arrested Development

[edit]

A few hours ago, over in the talk page for the article, Arrested Development, which you helped bring to featured status, a couple of editors expressed concerns over the article's status at the time. I then performed a thorough clean up of the article, removing uncited and encyclopedic sections which had been added to the article within the past couple of weeks, and added back references and some content from the original featured version of the article. Would you consider looking at the article and making any further changes or improvements if you would like, so that the article remains in its featured status? RE: Image:Battle of Pea Ridge 1.png

[edit]

Subscript text

On the image: Image:Battle of Pea Ridge 1.png, you must have copied and pasted the discription.

You say:

"Map showing the system of rebel fortifications on the Mississippi River at Island No. 10 and New Madrid, also the operations of the U.S. forces under General John Pope against these positions. (with) Route from Keetsville to Fayetteville, Ark...."

The Mississippi River is over 250 miles east of Pea Ridge. There is NO "Island No. 10" there, or New Madrid, General John Pope, or Keetsville, etc, etc...

Your discription makes no sense, looks like it pertains to several images.

What gives?? IP4240207xx 00:25, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was looking at the page for Johnson's Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets and noticed a redlink for Gilbert West, an 18th Century poet, now considered minor but taken more seriously by his contemporaries. I was going to create a stub, but I noticed that almost 2 years ago you deleted an article with that title. Could you possibly look at the deleted page and if it was about Gilbert West the poet undelete a copy of it to my userspace on the off-chance it would be useful? If it was about someone unrelated, I'd be grateful if you could drop me a line on my talk page to that effect (or reply here). Thanks. CIreland 03:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ImSorryIllReadThatAgainCast2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 04:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:ImSorryIllReadThatAgainCast2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 04:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Huronic 1913 storm

[edit]

I left a comment on the discussion page, but thought you might appreciate it here, too. The image comes not from the aftermath of the 1913 storm, but from August 6, 1928. As the information included says, that was on Lucille Island, near the tip of Minnesota's "arrowhead" near the border with Canada. In the storm of 1913, the Huronic went aground on a sand bar and was easily refloated without damage after the storm in Whitefish Bay, at the east end of Lake Superior.

See http://www.hhpl.on.ca/GreatLakes/Documents/Scanner/06/07/default.asp?ID=c007 a little more than half way down the page.

Brian, you uploaded the image for the Knee Diagram (Image:Knee_diagram.png), but for us non-doctor types, about 90% of the world, which side is which? You need to help us out, I think I can tell the front, but you should include that too.

Something like this in the caption:

I am guessing because I have NO idea.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Skammen1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Skammen1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:36, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arched legs

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Arched legs, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Zorkmidfront.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 00:58, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Foreplay

[edit]

I added the comment to the Foreplay article the first time to hopefully stem the tide of vandalism. Later it was protected by an admin at which point my comment became irrelevant. Then the protection was removed, and almsot immediately the article was vandalized the same way again. So I added the comment again because apparently the admins prefered the article unprotected. Saying "no need to add crap to comments" is jsut plain insulting when you are apparently not even paying attention to what is going on with the protection/vandalism status of the page. [edit]

1. That "slimy" text was included to explain why a non-implicated store was pictured (a concern raised here). If the controversy didn't affect the entire chain, it would only make sense to display one of the four implicated stores.
2. That was not a minor edit. —David Levy 19:57, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mitchell Report and BLP

[edit]

I am thinking that the lists should be deleted without further discussion per WP:BLP#Remove unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material: "Editors should remove any contentious material about living persons that is unsourced, relies upon sources that do not meet standards specified in Wikipedia:Verifiability, or is a conjectural interpretation of a source (see Wikipedia:No original research)." and WP:BLP:"Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material — whether negative, positive, or just questionable — about living persons should be removed immediately and without discussion from Wikipedia articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space."

However, I'm not going to take on the world without backup. --Elliskev 20:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that didn't go well. --Elliskev 20:56, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I know why you rolled back my change in the above mentioned article?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:EncyclopediaFrobozzicaRTZ.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EncyclopediaFrobozzicaRTZ.jpg.

Thank you. Amazing!

[edit]

Hello Brian. I noticed that you have created more than 1000 articles! That's amazing!! I have created 101 articles. I would also like to create 1000 articles. How did you created so many articles? Your contribution is quite amazing. Can you please undate the sub-page 'articles created'? According to that sub-page, you have created 1137 articles. However, other list (the list created by Bryan) suggests that you have created more than that. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 10:18, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:ImSorryIllReadThatAgainCast.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 19:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for multiple images

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Wishbringer game box cover.jpg Image:Enchanter game box cover.jpg Image:Beyond Zork game box cover.jpg Image:Spellbreaker game box cover.jpg Image:Zork Grand Inquisitor box cover.jpg Image:Return to Zork game box cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Greetings. I have been reviewing/refreshing myself in the way of American history and geography..and one matter mystifies me. If the capital of the C.S.A. was in Richmond, Virgina, not so far from Wash. D.C., why was Lincoln do dense not to understand that he had merely to capture Richmond to end the "rebellion?" The capital was no longer far, far away..in Montgomery, Alabama. ??

Be well.

revision made to Rubaiyat_of_Omar_Khayyam

[edit]

Hi Brion0918,

On Jan. 18 I made a minor revision to Rubaiyat_of_Omar_Khayyam (I was unregistered back then, with the IP of 207.47.13.189), which you have since reverted. I must admit that I'm new to the contributing part of wikipedia, and haven't keenly followed the rules. So it'd be great if you could enlighten me as to why the revision was deemed inappropriate, and how I could have made it better. Thanks!

That particular external link I added didn't originate from me. A "Rubiy" put it on the disambiguation page for "rubaiyat", without clearly indicating the parody nature of the linked work. So I moved it to the page for Omar's Rubaiyat, put it together with other parodies, and labeled it as such. I've noticed that Rubiy had by now added the link back to the disamb page -- if my change had been inappropriate, his would be much more so. Just to let you know. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by A.o.oncemore (talkcontribs) 03:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Averrunci

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Averrunci, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Averrunci. alex.muller (talkedits) 19:46, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have reverted the two reversions of my reversions (how's that for a tongue twister) because I have a better solution that I have outlined on the main FPC talk page and have implemented on any noms with nudity (I didn't make a judgement call as I explain there other than just nudity) please take a look and comment on that before deciding whether to revert again, I implemented this quickly since it appears that people in a work or family environment are quite eager to be able to go back to working on the FPC pages so I hope that this is a reasonable solution however if you disagree please say so on the talk page. Thanks. Cat-five - talk 19:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Dimwit flathead.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dimwit flathead.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Aporose, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Jackline

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Jackline, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PalinChapmanCarSalesman.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:PalinChapmanCarSalesman.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peizo Electric sensors

[edit]

Brian...I saw that you put the disadvantages of piezo electric sensor of not being a good static load sensor. Was that you? And where did you get that information? I can't find a illegitimate source. If you could let me know it would really help. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Impuden (talkcontribs) 15:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carol Cleveland image source

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CarolCleveland.jpg

Much as I do not mind that you used an image from my website for inclusion in the Wikipedia piece, I would have hoped you would have credited my site for the image. Perhaps it is just as well that MontyPythonPages.com is no longer an active site - even though it is mirrored at http://www.ctlsoftware.co.uk/Python/ .

As a minor point, the image is not a straight screen capture. It has been edited to remove other people and items from the image so that Carol is the clear focus. The background has also been moved out of focus to aid in this effect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.166.55.176 (talk) 14:43, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
