Hello Brendel, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. I've been editing as an unregistered user for a long time. I've made improvements to hundreds of articles, corrected spelling and grammatical errors, and challanged POV for almost 2 years. I've never had any urge to register officially until I noticed your page, and your contributes. I then realised that I would like a record of what I've done, and perhaps a snappy, efficient user page like yours. I'm not 100% proficient in how to use this site, or it's opportunites, and think I might benefit from someone more experienced than I. Would consider helping me make a signature, and maybe even a small, non-complex user page? I've researched your contributes, and would be honored if you would assist me in becoming a more substantial contributor to this site. If not, or if you don't have time, I completely understand! I have a lack of time myself, thats probably why I've never registered. Just a thought I guess... Regards, smooth_operator, September 8

I like it! I do have a question about how you managed to post this nice signature each time you sign. Surely you don't write all of the code out each time? Nhprman 07:16, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And of course, I just did three seconds of research and discovered on my own that the "nickname" line in My Preferences does this just fine. Thanks! I'll be working on a nicer one, like yours. User:Nhprman UserLists 07:23, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

United States presidential elections

[edit]

Hello. We worked together for a brief period of time on the United States article. I'm contacting you because, as someone interested in American politics, I would like your opinion. I'm currently taking issue with the format for the U.S. presidential elections pages. I'd appreciate if you participated in the discussion on the 2004 talk page. As the changes in question have occurred to all the election pages it's hard to centralize the discussion, so the most recent election page seems like the best place to start. Here's my comment, thanks! SpiderMMB 04:52, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Winner/Runner-up

[edit]

I have to voice my concern that this format is hurting the article. I will post this on a few notable election pages and hope that it's noticed. I have to admire the determination of whoever came up with this idea (it's apparently on every page) but ultimately, I think it should go. I think that having "winner/runner-up" displayed so prominently in the infobox overshadows the importance of the election. Some of these elections were not mere contests, but were epic events in American history where a variety of important viewpoints were symbolically represented and voted upon. Just in the last 50 years, the notable political climates of 1968 and 2004 came to a boiling point around election time. We should not be placing so much emphasis on the "winner" and the "runner-up" -- this is not a spelling bee. If we condense this into who "won" we are doing a disservice to the issues that drove these elections. SpiderMMB 23:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

The mods are on a crusade against your map Sir.

[edit]

Personally I feel the Map you created on White Americans brings a lot of easily understandable and quick information for any reader on the subject. The mods however have decided to remove your map giving all manner of false reasons for doing so. I think they mean to convolute the subject so that it is not so easily understood for political reasons. I would like to request that you ask them to stop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:934C:3900:60D9:3C3:631E:1096 (talk) 21:42, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:GDP welfare.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GDP welfare.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --OrphanBot 06:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anglo-Saxon economy. Thank you. Pastordavid 17:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your vote on the New Zealand dream, it really helped. Sorry to take a different view on the Anglo-Saxon economy, however when I was living in Switzerland I was frequently confronted by these stereotypes. I am a New Zealander and our country is not part of the United States, but to my colleagues I was an Anglo-Saxon. They made no distinction between the two countries. If President Bush did something, they would come to me and say "look what your president is doing".

Europe has economic troubles and they are constantly debating how to fix the problems, usually the reformists favor the neo-liberal Anglo-Saxon modelBadenoch 22:26, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, reasonable people can disagree - I do not hear the term commonly used, but perhaps that's becuase I'm in the U.S. By American standards, however, Canada and the UK is "to the left" in terms of economics, i.e. unviersal health care, etc... Social liberals in the U.S. often refer to Canada as an example can having a bigger well-fare state does not neccesarily inhibit economic growth. Talking about an Anglo-Saxon economy is too much of an over-simplification IMHO - which is why, I assume, I do not hear the term much in the U.S. Anyways, you do great work and I appreciate your continous efforts on the household income template! Regards, Signaturebrendel 02:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Anglo-Saxon country completely fits their Anglo-Saxon stereotype. The Anglo-Saxon policies they discuss don't normally include the US health care system, which is generally understood to be the most expensive and least effective in the OECD [1]. Europeans are more interested in America's strengths. Often the Anglo-Saxon policies that they are interested in relate to free-market competition and labor laws. In terms of free-trade they normally use Australia and New Zealand as examples of advanced free-trading countries because America is more protectionist (less economically liberal). Badenoch 06:58, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know about our health care sytem's abysmal preformance - something many liberals here point to as proof that the free market has limits. Nonetheless, my problem with the term as you have pointed out is that it is is a "stereotype" which leads to me to question how many European economists actually use the term in their dicussions and publications - in the U.S. it is rarely used. From you are telling me the term is used by continental Europeans (economists?) to cherry-pick economic policies of the rather heterogenous English-speaking countries they beleive ought to be part of economic reforms. You have given something to think about, though... I will think about deletion vote once more. Regards, Signaturebrendel 10:06, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:SF Left-Wing

[edit]

Happy New Year to you too! I know you are not a wildly left-wing socialist/communist person. Don't get me wrong you are obviously liberal politically just as I am obviously conservative in most ways. You are a very nice, reasonable, and intelligent person and have given me a new found respect for liberals every where. I always respect and consider your opinions, and as you know, you've even taught me a thing or two about several things in the past. My recent edits have nothing to do with you.

You as an individual do not represent ALL of San Francisco's political views however. Left-wing as I use it in the "San Francisco values" article is not supposed to be used in a negative way, I just think the page in which it links to better describes San Francisco's political views than simply "liberal" or "progressive"; I think it's a broader term. Just reading the left-wing article from top to bottom I think describes San Francisco's political views very well. Read the article and tell me if you agree. Needless to say, it is common knowledge that San Francisco is also quite possibly the most liberal area of the United States. In addition to all this, the word "right-wing" is used numerous times in numerous articles in Wikipedia. I as a conservative think it is being used in a pejorative way but I also think it is the best word to use.--Lucky Mitch (talk) 21:26, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why would San Francisco be so "left-wing"? Maybe because it doesn't have much of a "classical" but creditable Hard Right. With its ethnic and religious diversity it would be a miserable place for a white racist or a religious bigot of any kind. A strong LGBT community would likely drive off homophobes. San Francisco has -- urban as it is -- no landed aristocracy and no romanticization of one that no longer exists (contrast the American South). Educational standards are high, so blatant superstition is rare. For its size, San Francisco has plenty of cultural opportunities.

But it's also a good place for fostering optimism. One is never far from a nice view -- contrast some place so bland in view as Dallas, Houston, or Indianapolis, where nobody can have a good view of anything. The climate is chilly but surprisingly sunny; the famous fog usually is a night-time phenomenon. It's just moist enough for beautiful foliage. Sure, there's rain; when it rains, it pours. The rain comes swiftly and disappears fast, unlike in Seattle. Snow? Heat waves? Both are common in Chicago in the expected seasons, but not in San Francisco.

The chilly climate is just cool enough to preclude the tacky display of flesh that one expects in... Florida. It's just too cold for tank tops or hot pants on women -- or short-sleeve shirts. It's a difficult place in which to get a suntan with early wrinkles. It's warm enough even in the winter that one need not wear one of the fashion disasters known as the overcoat. A suit and tie won't overheat one, and it is adequate. So it is with a sweater and jeans. Add to this, the mountainous terrain requires people to get fit and stay fit. Every walk is a hike... and think what that does to human physiques. I've been other places, and I see fewer obese people in San Francisco than anywhere else, even if the restaurants are great. It's also among the least car-friendly places in America.

People seem to look better in San Francisco, on the whole, than almost anywhere else for the same age, ethnicity, gender, or even social class.

All of that, I think, fosters optimism. Even if one is a conservative, one tends to lose one's grouchiness so that one's conservatism is restricted to supporting classical standards in culture and competition in economics.

"San Francisco values"? It's really a slap at a city for having so many LGBT people and so few fundamentalist Christians. That people like Reverend Pat Robertson depict it as a sort of Sodom and Gomorrah which God might strike at any time with "The Big One" should recognize that a place where people must get along with people who don't look like them, don't pray like them, have wildly dissimilar names, or have different economic backgrounds look the other way about something like homosexuality. San Francisco has been a place of diversity from the time that the 'Forty-Niners' got there -- and I'm not discussing the football team. --Paul from Michigan (talk) 03:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Median household income

[edit]

Hi Brendel,

A problem has arisen with Figure 2 in median household income. Kelvinc wants it deleted as OR [4]. As you are the original creator of the graph I thought you may be interested.

Kelvinc is a self described cultural absolutist, a Chinese Candian into Anglo-spherism and Sino-spherism. He also has a history of trouble making[5]. His first ojection was to brain drain where he was concerned with Europhobes, having made no progress with that he moved to New Zealand dream, and then median household income in Australia and New Zealand. Yesterday he raised objections to median household income.

Thus far he has no other support from anyone.

I don't know the best way to deal with him. Should I ignore him or give into his wishes. If I give in to his wishes, he may be happy, but then again he may want delete other things, such as Template:International median household income, which is used in many places on the wikipedia.

As you have more experience than me, I was hoping that you may might be able to offer advice.Badenoch (talk) 00:20, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Int. Median Household Income

[edit]

Hey Brendel, I found this excellent source of information known as the Luxembourg Income Survey which happens to collect data on equivalent median household income on all countries. Yes, they have many countries we can use. All you have to do is post the data on the "international comparisons" section of US household income article. Speaking of which, the PPP rates you use are outdated. According to the latest World Bank/OECD/IMF report (as of this year they will standardize PPP indices), the PPP rate for the UK is .65 and not .618.

Here is the link for you to work on household income:

http://www.lisproject.org/keyfigures/full_kf.xls

The info. is on where it says median equivalised income. In reality it means household income which is equivalised.

Here is more info:

http://www.lisproject.org/keyfigures/methods.htm

The LIS is a very well known org., which the Census has worked with.

By the way, this Swiss M.H.Income data should not be there, because it does not include renters, which obviously pushes the median much higher, because renters tend to be much lower on the income scale.

If you can email me with a response, that would be great: fonseca33@aol.com

Many Thanks,

Forest.

GDP welfare.png and HDI welfare.png

[edit]

I believe that the use of these two images in the article Welfare state violates Wikipedia's policy on using original research or unverified claims. The original source for the data did not show any correlation or least squares fit or residuals or any formula describing the relation of that data. The source just gave numbers. When you included a "correlation," you included original research and unverified claims. You indicated this by categorizing those images as "Self-published work" when you uploaded them. There's nothing wrong with that... until you included them as figures in the Welfare state article.

If you would, please, re-upload them with only the well-sourced data points. They'd be nice to include in that article if only it wasn't for the deceiving "correlation."

I think the linear relationship you graphed over the data points is seriously flawed. The residuals from fitting a linear function to that data are so high as to make the correlation dubious at best. That's putting it really nice. The questionable nature of those images (having not been peer-reviewed) is exactly why articles shouldn't contain original research.--Bodybagger (talk) 06:27, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite. The numbers are the correlation. I did not have to run any calculations or form any original hypothesis. I simply graphed the numbers, that's not OR. If I have numbers 1, 7, 9, 13, 21 in column A and numbers 2, 9, 15, 21 in column B, and I to display these statistics on Wikipedia in graphic form and state that they there is a positive correlation, I am not conducting original research, but am simply describing the data. I am not conducting research but simply stating that as numbers in column A go up, so do those in column B. By labeling the graph as "self-published work" I meant that I created the graph myself rather than having downloaded it from somewhere else. That's not OR, I simply decided to put the stats in graphic form rahter than in a table. Signaturebrendel 07:58, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

American middle class GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

[edit]

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed American middle class and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are several issues that need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages of a few related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 16:59, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have also reviewed Social class in the United States and it has a few issues that need to be addressed. I will also leave it on hold for a week for you and other editors to make the suggested changes. Since you're working on two articles, if you need more time, please contact me on my talk page. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 05:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for source

[edit]

Hi, you added a section to Political parties in the United States here: [6] It had been deleted but I replaced it, see article talk for info on that. However, I just realized that the source is broken, and after going over the history I found that it was broken from the beginning. Would you please dig up that "Bartels" source and add it? Because I'd like the section to remain. Thanks! --71.241.217.171 (talk) 23:01, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Question from a Young Grasshopper

[edit]

Brendel, you don't know me, but I've followed a few of your pages and respect both your edits and experience. I need someone as a mentor. The question is:whether or not to ask an editor to add information that links to a page to which I contributed significantly? The page I helped author is about reactions to the KORUS FTA in South Korea, I think it's indirectly related the KORUS FTA article proper. RlndGunslinger (talk) 14:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Paul Fredrick

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Paul Fredrick, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:NN company

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thank you for uploading File:Salinas_City_Seal.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

Median household income

[edit]

While doing research into the economy of Scotland, I quickly checked this page (which I believe you have contributed heavily to) for a comparison and because I noticed it had the OECD PPP factors. I found that many of the years are a little out of date and there is probably more up to date information available now to update this. I have been using "Scottish Economic Statistics 2008", published by the Scottish Government, I believe the data in this is from 2007. I am not sure if there will have been much change comparatively between countries median household incomes, but thought you might be interested? Benson85 (talk) 01:12, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Lethbridge Undergraduate Research Journal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Lethbridge Undergraduate Research Journalnews, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: II (April 2010)

[edit]
Sociology ProjectNews • April 2010

The Sociology WikiProject is conducting a roll call (or min-census, if you prefer). More then five years down the road, we have over 50 members, but we don't know how many of them are still active in the sociology area. If you are or want to become once again an active contributor to the sociology content on Wikipedia, please move your name from the inactive to the active list on our roll call.

In other news, we have reactivated the newsletter :) At least, for this announcement. We also have a new, automated to do listing, an active tag and assess project (which has identified about 1,800 sociology articles on Wikipedia, and assessed about 1,3000 of them), and three new userboxes for your self-identification pleasure :) On a final note, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

A tag has been placed on Food Alliance requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: III (December 2010)

[edit]
Sociology ProjectNews • December 2010
Spreading the meme since August 2006

The Sociology WikiProject third newsletter is out!

According to our April mini-census, we have 15 active members, 6 semi-active ones and 45 inactive. Out of those, 4 active, 3 semi-active and 1 inactive members have added themselves to corresponding categories since the mini-census. The next one is planned, roughly, for sometime next year. The membership list has been kept since 2004.

On that note, nobody has ever studied WikiProjects from the sociological perspective... if you are interesting in researching Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Research and wiki-research-l listerv.

Moving from research to teaching, did you know that many teachers and instructors are teaching classes with Wikipedia? This idea is getting support from the Wikimedia Foundation, and some really useful tools have been created recently. I have experience with that, having taught several undergad classes, so feel free to ask me questions on that!

And as long as I am talking about professional issues, if any of you is going to any sociological conferences, do post that to our project - perhaps other members are going there too?

In other news: the a automated to do listing reported in the April issue went down shortly afterwards, but seems to be on the path to reactivation. We still have an active tag and assess project, and comparing the numbers to the April report, we have identified about 350 more sociology-related articles (from 1,800 to 2,150) and assessed about 100 (from 1,300 to 1,400).

We now have a listing of most popular sociology-related pages. It is updated on the 1st of every month, starting with August, and reports which of our sociology-tagged articles are most frequently read. Of course, GIGO holds true, so after looking at it right now and trying to determine what is our most popular article, my first action was to shake my head and remove Criminal Minds (which, perhaps not too surprisingly, outranks all sociology articles in period tested). Second item I noticed it this month's Industrial Revolution, beating Criminal Minds, that moved from close to 30th position in August/September, to 9th in October and 2nd in November. If you'd like to discuss this or any other trends, please visit WT:SOCIOLOGY!

Finally, with the reactivation of Article Alerts, we are getting our own here. Bookmark that page so you can keep track of sociology related deletion debates, move debates, good and feature article discussions, and more.

Our first task force (Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology/Social movements task force) was created (1 June 2010).

If you have basic or better graphic skills, our projects needs a dedicated barnstar (award) (currently the closest we can get is the Society Barnstar.

As always, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

Do you mind updating the Welfare's effect on poverty chart?

[edit]

I came across this study by Timothy Smeeding "Relative Poverty Rates and Antipoverty Effects in 8 Rich Nations at the Turn of the Century" and it has pre-welfare and post-welfare calcuations on Figure 9 or "Relative Poverty Rates and Antipoverty Effects in 8 Rich Nations at the Turn of the Century".

If you could add a third series of numbers based on Smeeding's calculations, it would be great!

Also big thanks for making the chart, I created a whole article on Welfare's effect on poverty based in part on that chart.

For reference, here is the old table with two sources.

Country Absolute poverty rate (1960–1991)

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear BrendelSignature,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk)23:24, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Age personal income.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. File permission problem with File:Mb 220S 1957 Mark Kurtz Norman Ridge.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mb 220S 1957 Mark Kurtz Norman Ridge.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 09:07, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eliane Lust requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://elianelust.com/eliane_lust_bio.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Nomination of Eliane Lust for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Eliane Lust is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eliane Lust until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. ceradon (talkcontribs) 06:45, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Foreign born Americans

[edit]

The article Foreign born Americans has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Redundant to Immigration to the United States

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dear Brendel

I'd like to ask for the data source that you used for the graph Share top 1 percent.jpg. I'd like to reference the data source, update the graph with the latest data (if possible), and make the graph nicer looking. Thanks in advance for any pointers you can give me.

Image source problem with File:American Income.png

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:American Income.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:49, 13 March 2023 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 13:49, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article Armrest has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary. An armrest is an easily understood common item, and this article has been here for eighteen years without expanding past defining what an armrest is and where one might find one, and has only one source, which appears to be entirely about armrests on commercial airliners and not about the general concept of an armrest.
