Speedies
[edit]Heya, thanks for helping out on RC patrol. Please check the page history before marking something as a speedy deletion candidate though, 573 was in fact an ok article that was vandalised. --fvw* 06:50, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
- Whups. Will do. Thanks. Brandon39 06:52, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

- Thanks for the work on speedy deletion candidates. Don't forget that one can create useful redirects as one way of cleaning up. Jkelly 05:26, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
a heads-up on the List of Guantanamo Bay detainees
[edit]Greetings,
Since you voted to keep the article List of Guantanamo Bay detainees I thought I would give you a "heads-up". A copyright violation was filed against the article, on October 11th. It was filed by someone who had voted to delete the article on October 5th.
I believe that the copyright violation is entirely bogus. I believe it is bogus because, as explained in Feist Publications v. Rural Telephone Service, lists of facts, like lists of names, cannot be copyright. This Feist v. Rural case went all the way to the US Supreme Court, which made the possibly counter-intuitive ruling that the amount of effort someone put in to compiling a list plays no role in determining whether that list is eligible for copyright protection.
Even if alphabetic lists of names could be copyright, I believe the wikipedia list would not be violating copyright since the list was compiled from various sources.
Yes, I have considered that this user invoked a bogus copyright violation to achieve a result that failed in the {AfD}. Yes, I asked them to terminate the copyright violation process, in light of Feist v Rural. They declined. The backlog in the administrators dealing with copyright violations seems to be on the order of a month long.
Anyhow, I wanted the people who had shown interest in the article to not freak out, or feel betrayed, by seeing the copyright violation tag. -- Geo Swan 11:23, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Thanks for catching and reverting my mistake in marking Lenin Shipyard for speedy delete. Hope you didn't think I was a vandal. It was carelessness on my part; I meant to mark a user page that was a redirect to Lenin Shipyard and didn't pay attention. --Russ Blau (talk) 22:25, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Jon Bithrey
[edit]Hi Brandon
I am not meaning to be difficult but I can't see how the article on Jon Bithrey should be deleted. This person is clearly notable enough to be on the site.
You do not live on the island of Jersey, a state governed under the British crown but not part of the UK or the EU. If you did you may well have heard about Jon Bithrey - he is a presenter who regularly appears on BBC Radio Jersey, the most listened to station on the island.
To give you an example - when members of the Royal Family including the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh recently attended celebrations in commemoration of VE Day, Jon Bithrey was the presenter who presented the BBC Radio coverage of this visit.
You may not deem this important but can I make the point that there are many people who are profiled on this site that I too do not consider important or notable. I do not pointlessly go around deleting their profiles.
For example I bet there are some Iowa talk radio presenters who people might like to read about - but would not have been heard of by people who work on Jersey.
Thanks
B B.
- Hi, B B. Actually, I don't think local broadcasters in Iowa are notable enough to be included, and I would as readily propose deletion for the news anchor at KGAN in Cedar Rapids as I would for the entry on Mr. Bithrey.
- FYI, if you will go back and look at the template I used, it was inappropriate for you to remove the speedy delete tag on an article that you yourself had created. Correct procedure would have been to note your objection on the article's talk page. The admin who reviewed the proposed delete would have taken your concerns into account.
- Anyway, since you objected to the speedy delete, rather than restoring it I have added the article to Articles for Deletion, where it will sit for seven days while other editors review it and consider the pros and cons. You, of course, can also express your opinion there.
- Anywho, Im sorry if you took it wrong, as there is nothing personal about this for me. Thanks for letting me know of your concerns. Brandon39 03:56, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
Baseball
[edit]This belongs in the sports pages not on the front page. It is of very little interest to anyone outside of the US. It is covered in the The Times (there is no such thing as the London Times) and the Guardian as a sports story (and specifically in the guardian under "American sports"). Sports events should go under Current_sports_events especially a parochocial sport like baseball. Jooler 12:28, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
George Best played international football for Northern Ireland and played international club football for Manchester United, as well as playing in the United States for Los Angeles Aztecs and the San Jose Earthquakes He is Diego Maradona's all-time favourite football player. He is listed in the FIFA 100 he was European Footballer of the Year in 1968. He is an international sporting legend. That he is on his death-bed is of international interest. Would you please revisit this debate and reconsider your vote? I think my comments and updates to the article warrant a new look. - Mgm|(talk) 19:21, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Michael Scheuer page
[edit]Please take a look at recent edits. I wish to include several quotes directly from Scheuer's book that conflict with Scheuer's statements on TV that are already quoted on the page. One editor seems to be acting purely on the basis of censorship. Apparently, he just does not want readers to know the truth about Scheuer. Please take a look at the page and see if you can mediate. The editor works in tandem with another editor to game the rules. I only want the quotes included so readers can know the facts and make up their own minds. RonCram 14:08, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Brandon39! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 449 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- David G. Hartwell - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
