Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, BradleyC2019. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page 2019 United Kingdom general election, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:47, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 United Kingdom general election

[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate that you enjoy using Wikipedia, please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a place for blogging or promotion. So please do not try to use Wikipedia to promote yourself or your family, band, product, or company, as you did at 2019 United Kingdom general election. The subjects of our articles have to meet certain notability requirements and be written from a neutral point of view. Off-topic material may be deleted at any time, even if it's on your user page. We're sorry if this message has discouraged you from editing here, but the ultimate goal of this website is to build an encyclopedia. Thank you. Impru20talk 12:23, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The COI issue has been raised by another editor, not me, so they may have further knowledge on this issue. The fact that you immediately went on to post this "PolliticoUK" projection in the 2019 UK election article right after creating your account may have helped raise such suspicions, though.
As pointed out in my edit reverting you, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Aside of any promotion issues that could be of application here, another relevant issue is that just because you happen to "find something" out in the Internet does not mean that it is noteworthy for inclusion in Wikipedia. All other predictions come from well-reputed sites, but "PolliticoUK" seems to be an amateur website created only a couple months ago and with little to no reporting in reliable sources, which decidedly rules out its inclusion. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia containing information reported in reliable and notable sources, not a vehicle for helping turn some sources as notable. Impru20talk 14:17, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
