Regarding the Muhammad Image
[edit]While the advise of a Baha'i on this matter may not be of interest to you, I would not suggest dwelling too much on the image. The Quran forbids compulsion in religion, and because of that Muslims often have to put up with some abuse and blasphemy on the parts of heedless persons.
But that aside, there are many depictions of the Prophet. Some are made with respect and good intentions, as many of the images used in the article were, or the depiction of Him as a great Lawgiver in the facade of the supreme court building in my country, for example. The danger is not in the image, but in exalting the image itself, making it an idol, and detracting worship from God.
The depictions of Muhammad, may peace be upon Him, are imaginary images that have nothing to do with the true appearance of the Prophet. Their existence is only harmful if it causes one to be deceived.
I had a similar painful experience with the blasphemous (and racist) dutch cartoon that was all over the news. The image of the Messenger is trivial compared to the Message.
And I beg your forgiveness if I have overstepped the bounds of propriety in discussing this with you, or offended you with anything I have said here.
Peace be with you. May you go in God's care. Peter Deer (talk) 11:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
