You

have been busy. Carptrash (talk) 17:14, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Once again

[edit]

you are the shining example. I should have figured that it would be Eakins that is your model. Should I just plug into chart you have started here? Carptrash (talk) 15:21, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And thanks for the reference format. I have now added that to my wikipedia cheat sheet. Carptrash (talk) 15:27, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the section that we are working under is American artists, but really it was an international exhibit so I don't see why we should limit it so. Gawd knows that wikipedia gets accused often enough of being Amerocentric (got a better word?) without our intentionally doing it. Separating painters and sculptors seems like a good idea. Carptrash (talk) 15:32, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So perhaps the chart could have a column that has a little flag of the country that the artist is from ? That's always cute. Carptrash (talk) 15:34, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have grabbed your chart and put it over inmy sandbox and will work on sculptors. Otherwise we shall get all tangled up. Let me know if you add a flag column. Carptrash (talk) 15:43, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case

[edit]

you feel a sculptor coming on, I have stared this User:Carptrash/sandbox. Carptrash (talk) 17:50, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it looks very good. I am working on Elwell's Dickens and Little Nell (Elwell), which I am pretty sure won a medal. Carptrash (talk) 17:45, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please drop me a line

when you publish this. I probably will put out my woefully incomplete sculpture one then, but I want my title to match whatever you decide upon. Talk to you then, Carptrash (talk) 19:18, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Carptrash: Thanks. I never noticed that my Sandbox had a Talk page, which was why I never replied to any of the above. == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 00:39, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As the kids today say, "No problem," as I spend most of my time talking to myself. Carptrash (talk) 02:50, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Carptrash: Remember what JFK said about a State dinner for Nobel Prize winners—that it was possibly the greatest meeting of minds at the WH since Thomas Jefferson dined there alone. == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 00:08, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Does this have anything do do with either you or me drinking alone? Carptrash (talk) 04:09, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hallgarten Prize

[edit]

@Doncram: Thanks for the addition. There's something screwy with Carl W. Peters's Hallgartens. Since an artist could only win one Hallgarten in each class, I'm not sure I have things right. The "no award" for 1932 may be for the Third Hallgarten. Best, == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 14:49, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Courtship of Miles Standish, redone by Turner
Hi, yes, this is about my adding a tiny bit to BoringHistoryGuy's current sandbox, currently in this version. Seems like Hallgarten Prize is important and has famous works by young-ish artists, including "Courtship of Myles Standish" (oh, this is a re-do not the more famous painting), and maybe it is oriented to paintings done in older/traditional/genre styles? I don't see where a list of prizes is given, online anywhere. It adds value to link to, show paintings, etc. --Doncram (talk) 17:31, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncram: Thanks for catching my error with 1938. I confirmed the paintings and the order of the artists in the 1938 American Art Annual. Great stuff you're adding! == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 13:58, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, just to let you know what i did: After first searching less systematically I then searched in Google on "Second Hallgarten" and went through all the hits, skipping only those that seemed to relate to the early years which you had completely sorted out already. I added notes wherever it seemed i had new/different information. Came across some where I could have added supporting notes for items you had already put in, but usually did not. Then searched on "Third Hallgarten" and then on "First Hallgarten". I went through everything available that way, and am done, and don't currently see how I could help any much more. I came to this, of course, through noticing your posting at User talk:Carptrash#‎‎Whudduya think?. Thanks for letting me engage in this, it was sort of an interesting side exercise for me to try to help. Striking to me that info availability drops off so dramatically at 50 or 75 year or whatever is the mark for copyright restrictions expiring, as you allude to at Carptrash discussion. Good luck with your project! Cheers, --Doncram (talk) 14:18, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncram: That's great! Thank you. I look forward to the copyright laws being revised, but the 1923 deadline, set in the 1990s, I think, is still in place. I appreciate all you've done. Best, == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 14:57, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
