-I'm not sure if this is the correct venue to discuss this or not but I would like to explain my position. I created an account to start documenting Portland punk bands and the West Coast punk scene. I am not a paid editor. Please let me know how to correct the COI issues. I had planned on making pages for some of the clubs and festivals that I cited in the Antiworld page. As many of the clubs are closing and the music scene is changing, I think these are important things to record. This is my first time contributing to Wikipedia so please let me know how to resolve the issues that have been raised. Bonnieblagg (talk) 01:25, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Bonnie, the problem is that the sources have to be considered reliable ones, and to conform to WP:RS. This means newspapers, music magazines or music websites with journalists and editorial control are okay, but blogs set up by one person are not. Neither are the artist's own official website or social media, because they are not independent and impartial (so no Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, etc.). The likes of Discogs and iMDb are simply listing sites that prove the records exist, not that they are notable, and likewise online stores and streaming sites like Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and Deezer just show that the records exist and can be heard/bought. You really need to find coverage of the band (interviews with the band, or reviews of the records) in local newspapers or music magazines like Rolling Stone. Yes, I know that's going to be hard for a band that were around over 20 years ago and before the internet was available... that's why articles for bands like this don't exist that easily on Wikipedia. -thank you so much! That helps a lot! Bonnieblagg (talk) 20:00, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
- As well as Portland newspapers, back issues of The Portland Phoenix (https://www.portlandphoenix.me/) would probably also be very helpful in finding sources regarding Portland's alternative scene. I have no idea if the public library there would have copies of these, I'm just saying that these would be good places to start looking for sources. Unless you can improve the Antiworld article in the next few days, it's likely to be deleted... but if you really think you could find three or four decent sources to make an article, then copy a draft of the article into your sandbox, and then you can work on it for as long as you like... when you think it is ready for publication again, you could recreate the article in mainspace. - I moved the article back to being a draft. I will update the citations and republish. Bonnieblagg (talk) 20:51, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
- Request assistance before trying to move the article back to mainspace, because the deletion discussion was closed as delete. —C.Fred (talk) 21:08, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
- Will do, thanks for the advice. Bonnieblagg (talk) 21:13, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
