Hi. Thanks for your message to my talk page, it was good to hear from you. The message I left was an automated one that I use when I remove external links, and I admit it was not entirely appropriate in this case. However, I stand by my edits for the following reasons:
  • The site still is quite short on content - there is very little mentioned on, say, the Bolton article in Wikiville that isn't on this article. On WP:EL it states we should only add links with content that we both don't and can't have in the main article.
  • For larger articles such as England, it is normal to only link to exceptional offical sources - it would be impossible to link to even a fraction of all sources that write about England, and according to WP:NOT, Wikipedia is not a link-farm.
  • The guidelines at WP:EL states we shouldn't link to sites with unverified original research as this goes against Wikipedia's core beliefs of verifiability and no original research, but this (almost by nature) is the case for Wikiville's content.
This means we cannot use Wikiville as an aucxiliiary information source for articles. However, I would imagine the project is notable enough for an article of its own, and of course a link from there to the site is perfectly acceptable (and indeed, expected!).
I hope that you find my comments useful - feel free to point any more questions either my way or at any of the admins here. Best of luck for the Wikiville project too! Aquilina 23:21, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear "Mr Bolton": there are some good points above. I've looked at the guideline pages. It seems any WikiVille page that has substantial content, with the greater part verifiable fact (eg by visiting the town and/or standing in front of the building, and simply using one's eyes) rather than one student's opinion, has a fair case for a link from the corresponding WP page if there are only a few external links already. I may try one myself after I have done an "NPOV" article on WikiVille itself (since you as chief adult contributor would not be encouraged to do that!). Robin Patterson 00:51, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
