Good work copyediting the article. I wish I could be able to do it, but I'm still learning the language.Tintor2 (talk) 20:48, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Glad I could help, though the article was already well written. If you ever need help with copyediting another article you can make a request at the Guild of Copy Editors Requests page, or you can leave a comment here, on my talk page, and I'll be glad to take a look at it. Thanks. Bobnorwal (talk) 22:47, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Don't forget to mark your entries from the Requests page

On behalf of the coordinator of the WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors Backlog elimination drive for May 2010, ɳorɑfʈ Talk!, I would like to thank you for your active participation in the Drive.

I am writing to inform you that we have introduced additional Guild of Copy Editors' Gold Star Awards for the drive.

To qualify, you will need to add an asterisk to all the full copyedits you have completed from the Requests page. More information can be found in the awards section of the Drive. If you have any questions, please post them to the Drive's talk page.

Once again, thank you for participating, and we look forward to a meaningful drop in the numbers due to your hard work and efforts.

- S Masters (talk) 03:35, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your work in copy editing this article! I'm now looking forward to sending it off for its featured article candidacy, as that was the last issue it had :-) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 22:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, no problem! It was an interesting read. Here's hoping it passes the FAC. Good luck. Bobnorwal (talk) 01:37, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Alas, the FA delegates have apparently snuck in more rules, against the seeming community consensus, and I was forced to withdraw it for two weeks because I had a different article archived for lack of support recently. *sigh* -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:53, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Henry Allingham

Thanks for the copyedit, is this part of an aim to push towards FA status? Mjroots (talk) 09:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I dunno... I was simply filling a request you made on the GoCE Requests Page (back in October 2009; better late than never, eh? ;D) as part of the ongoing "Copyediting Backlog Elimination Drive". I do hope that article reaches FA status and I am willing to help where I can, but I had no concrete plans of making the "big push" towards FAC. Bobnorwal (talk) 16:53, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you have indicated that you will be copyediting the article Quagmire's Dad, and just wanted to let you know that the full protection of the article has expired. Please try to look over the article as soon as possible, as a neutral editor from the GOCE is desperately needed. Gage (talk) 19:25, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Also, have you finished copyediting I Never Met the Dead Man? If so, could you please add the GOCE template to the talk page? Also, is the Quagmire's Dad article fully copyedited? Gage (talk) 08:09, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, in my mind, Quagmire's Dad is copyedited, and accordingly I have removed it from the requests page. As for I Never Met the Dead Man... I did not copyedit it nor was I engaged to do so; in fact, User:Fetchcomms agreed to handle the article back on May 8, though maybe he forgot... Bobnorwal (talk) 02:02, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Someone smart put up a leaderboard at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/Backlog_elimination_drives/May_2010#Progress. GOCE Newsletter

GOCE backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now reached the halfway point, and here's what has happened so far.

  • Requests Report - Good news! The number of special requests waiting to be edited has been reduced drastically, with almost all of the remaining items having editors committed to getting them done. Good work, people!
  • Target Report - ɳorɑfʈ's initial target of reducing the backlog of articles for copy edit turned out to be unrealistic insane, so a new target was set: we hope to reduce the to backlog to less than 7,500 items in the queue by the end of the month. The number in the queue was 7,950 as of close of business yesterday.
    • If we "concentrate our firepower" we can wipe out Jan, Feb, and March 2008, meaning the drive will have cleared four months off the backlog queue. Please consider copyediting from one of these months.
  • Rewards Report - We now have some clear leaders on the board in all three Gold Star categories, and many people have qualified for the various barnstars. It is not too late to participate, as it takes just 2,000 words (pre-edit) to qualify for a barnstar! Don't wait! Start participating today. Remember, the ultimate winner is Wikipedia.
  • Notice to Participants - For those who have indicated that you will be working on certain articles on the drive page in your respective tally box, please ensure that you complete these copyedits as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your participation so far!

Thank you!

Thank you for copyediting Matsalu National Park! Excellent job - we could use a lot of editors like you, indeed. Have you given some thought about cloning? ;)

The article was improved a lot. I want to sit on it for a day or few, meditating about possible additions, and then nominate it for a GA review.

Thank you once more for a job well done.

--Sander Säde 18:48, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh my...thank you for the high compliment, though I'm not sure an army of clones is such a great idea. ;D Anyway, good luck with the Good Article review! Bobnorwal (talk) 20:13, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Siege of Damascus (634)

Are you doing this one or no? ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 00:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

No, I guess not. For now I'm going to concentrate on finishing February 2009 tornado outbreak instead. Bobnorwal (talk) 23:37, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi I've seen your copyedits to The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie article, as I am going to really busy until the end of June, I was wondering if you could help me out with the article (if it needs anymore copyediting) and leave a list of questions (if any) on my talk page, and I will reply when I'm not as busy. I was wondering if you could help me get it to receive FAC status. Thanx! ATC . Talk 03:03, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, why not? We just finished the "backlog elimination drive" for May and I don't have any big wikiplans for June, so I'll see what I can do. Since I am not terribly familiar with the subject matter I will concentrate on the article's compliance with the MOS and the FA Criteria. And I'll leave any questions I may have on your talk page, as you requested. Here's to a successful push! Bobnorwal (talk) 04:43, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanx! ATC . Talk 02:01, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
BTW, I saw some of your recent edits. I wanted to know if you could help me paraphrase a quote in the "Releases and debuts" section which says:

Hecht also recalls his enthusiasm for the film, which inspired his thought for a television show:[28]
"Well that’s just moving from documentary to mockumentary! The Naked Brothers Band was an indie film—again my attraction to the indie field in terms of how personal things are...I was totally blown away, not only by the filmmaking and how funny and smart it was[, but] it was a true family audience. You had adults who love the Beatles references... You had kids who just love the slapstick nature of it and the relationship of these brothers, who are real. ...Then I saw them in the Q&A afterwards and just totally fell in love with them. I’ve seen a lot of stars, and I’ve helped make a lot of stars, and these kids definitely have that. [Later on,] I took it to Nickelodeon, and they fell in love with it as a series....
[The film will have the] same format [as the show]. Cameras follow around this world famous band, the Naked Brothers Band. Real kids, real brothers—not really naked. It’s kind of a controversial title on some level. It really is the name of their band. [There was no controversy over the show's] name. There was just a beat there when we presented it to Nickelodeon. Everybody laughed, and that’s what you’re supposed to do. Then at some point, somebody says, "Naked Brothers Band? Naked?” Overall, I think people understand it’s all good clean fun."

Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Thanks very much to all who helped with the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die.

Moving forward

GOCE backlog elimination drive chart up to 31 May

The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!!

Stats

Almost everyone who participated will receive a barnstar. We will be handing these out over the next week or so.

Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 14:38, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 20:41, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE July 2010 backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update.

Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue.

Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board.

The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated.

This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk.

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

GOCE Drive – Final push

Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters (talk) 04:09, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
